Stay away from this clinic. Just stay away. I sought treatment for pain in my feet as a result of diabetes (diabetic peripheral neuropathy). I have never been given such a hard-​sell as I did by Doane and his business manager (sales person). I’ve dealt with used car salesmen that didn’t try as hard to pry money out of my wallet as Doane did. When I chose to not engage their services I was rudely spoken to by the business manager (sales person). I have never been treated in this manner by practitioners of western medicine.
By simply taking my pulse in a brief 10-​minute initial consultation in his office, Doane claimed to diagnose multiple diseases in me. No blood tests, no MRIs, no x-​rays. Just feeling my pulse. It was like an auto mechanic feeling a tire to see if the engine needed to be rebuilt. Foolishness.
Doane further claimed that local western medicine physicians are the bottom-​of-​the-​barrel. He claimed that any doctor that sets up practice in Kitsap county is poorly trained, ineffective, and can’t succeed anywhere else (he made this claim twice on two separate visits), yet Doane’s «clinic» is in Kitsap county. Again, foolishness.
Doane’s attempts to treat me failed, despite claims made by him and two staffers that their treatments would indeed be effective. The fact that it didn’t work for me is fine. I’m ok with that. Diabetic peripheral neuropathy is a serious issue and difficult to treat. It is very real and is becoming an epidemic as diabetes is on the rise in this country. I gave it a shot, did NOT like what I heard/​saw, and moved on.
Doane appears to own multiple «clinics» within his building. He referred me out from the main «clinic» to another «clinic» that uses a camera device to look at the heat patterns on my skin. In my opinion, this was totally bogus. It was another way to create a chargeable service in the guise of another clinic/​practitioner. I was told it was a critical process in my treatment like an MRI or cat scan.
What Doane attempts to do is get you to sign a contract for a long period of services. If you have insurance that covers acupuncture, watch out. He wants that free pathway to cash flow. You’ll have to pay upfront for any other services.
In the end, after enduring treatments, and listening to claims about how putting needles in my ears and hands will have an immediate effect on pain in my feet, nothing happened. Zip. Nada. And that’s ok. I’m fine with that. BUT, you need to know that Doane’s goal is taking your cash… just like any other used car salesman.

Take you in and do a high power sell and the owner telling me how great he is with all his stuff! It was so weird! I have had lots of acupuncture at Bastyr clinic in Seattle, Clinics in California, clinic in New York, etc. My best friend taught acupuncture in New York and was an ND. Never have been to a clinic that felt like a dealership trying to sell you. Never have I experienced any practice do this!
Would I recommend this place? NO!

I did a brief pulse therapy at the Tacoma wedding expo and was curious if it could help. I paid the $ 60 half price and made an appointment. I was told to come 30 min early for paperwork. I came early and have been waiting for 45 min past my appointment time and they might get to me soon… not a great time so far. Will update after. Not having high hopes right now.

My husband is an acupuncturist who hopes to study with Dr. Doane soon. He has an honest approach because acupuncture is a therapeutic modality which you must commit to to see results. At the end of the day, this clinic is very successful and there’s a reason for that in spite of a few disgruntled loud people.

I am a healthcare provider as well, and I am so upset that this type of practice is in my community. I was told by the owner «Dr. Doane» (does not have a doctorate in anything) that I have a heart murmur. I specialize in cardiac healthcare, and I do not have a heart murmur. Many other reviewers referred to their high pressure sales tactics. I experienced the same thing. I have never seen any other healthcare provider ask a a patient to contract for care and pay thousands $$$ up front for potential relief of symptoms and treatment. I went there out of curiousity, and would not recommend this practice to any of my patients. Additionally, they have advertised anti-​vaccination data in their lobby. Their research citations for anti-​vaccinations are limited to one debunked event from last century. Anyone in healthcare knows that research evolves rapidly, and it is shameful to provide healthcare advice to such a large group of our community with such poor qualifications and understanding on the subject. I strongly support the incorporation of traditional chinese medicine, acupuncture, and preventative healthcare into our western medical practice, but I 100% feel that this practice is run on a desire for money and the owner is underqualified and lacks research skills to educate patients about total health.

After my review, Dr. Bob and his ‘wellness’ center literally tried to sue me for my bad review. I reviewed them on FB saying that I had a bad experience, but won’t write more as they are taking legal action against me for my opinions on my treatment there and I got ANOTHER letter from their lawyer continuing to threaten legal action and falsely claiming that I called them, ‘evil’.
Luckily I had a great non-​profit organization lawyer take me on pro bono and she helped set them straight that it’s not OK to bully and intimidate people for leaving bad reviews on their Unilocal.They dropped the legal actions after that.

Based on the reviews, I know that there is a lot of skepticism about this clinic. However, Bob’s clinic is highly efficient and effective in healing their patients. He personally trains all of his «interns» — who are the cream of the crop in our industry and fully licensed w clinical experience and DEDICATED to this healing arts. That’s why he hired them.
I have seen miracles happen at this clinic; cancer reversed, patients going off of their insulin and diabetes meds after decades of struggle, high blood pressure reversed, patients in tears and gratitude bc they have gotten their health and life back after being bounced from MD to MD to specialist. I know that the clinic may get hectic and I know that the treatment plans are more than the average person would expect to spend on their health, but you can ask yourself if your health is worth it.
I am an acupuncturist myself and I send my difficult cases to Bob (and he’s far from me) because I fully TRUST HIM. He’s a special character and you may not always agree w him on everything (I don’t either) but you will be thankful that your health is in his hands.

It has been my pleasure to be a shadow of Dr. Robert for a week as an acupuncturist and herbologist intern. His style, approach to patients and unique method of care has changed my idea about how a wellness clinic should be. I hope that other colleagues in my profession will pick up this acupuncture model and as a result we will have less and less sick people in America. I have seen unbelievable results for pain relief in literally seconds right in front of my eyes. His pulse diagnosis skills are worthy of establishing a whole new acupuncture school. I will definitely be back. I think Poulsbo is lucky to have Dr. Doane and his world class Alternative Center in the community!

My colleague and I are acupuncturists from California who recently completed one week of clinical rounds and professional shadowing with Dr. Robert Doane and his team at the Acupuncture and Wellness Center in Poulsbo, WA. We spent more than 50hours observing Dr. Doane’s unique style of acupuncture, sophisticated method of pulse diagnosis, and effective approach to Chinese herbal medicine, all of which he combines with his extensive knowledge of Western medicine to create scientifically-​based treatment programs for his patients. During this time we also participated in appointments with dozens of patients who had experienced 80−100% improvement in their health within just a few months of care from Dr. Doane and his team.
To address some of the criticism posted on Unilocal,this is not a one-​day clinic: the majority of conditions that people seek treatment from Dr. Doane for have developed over years if not decades of life and thus require dedicated time and attention to effectively address. Patients who understand this, and are willing to commit to their own healing process, reap incredible benefits with Dr. Doane, including significant reduction and even resolution of chronic conditions (including allergies, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart conditions, anxiety/​depression, severe migraines, chronic pain and others), often in less than 4 months of care.
We highly recommend Dr. Doane as both a practitioner and an educator: he has a thorough, well-​rounded approach to wellness, unparalleled diagnostic skills and a direct, authentic and caring approach with his patients. He also has one of the most informed and polished approaches to teaching and training that we have experienced. The medical team and staff that work with Dr. Doane are equally amazing: a wonderful group of skilled, professional, friendly, generous and thoughtful people. And the beautiful, state-​of-​the-​art facility feels more like a high-​end retreat than a medical clinic. In our opinion, the Acupuncture and Wellness Center in Poulsbo is one of the most efficient and well-​organized alternative health care clinics in the United States.

Talk about a lot of hoops to jump through to get some acupuncture. We had to print a packet fill it out and bring it with us. I had the rudest call the day before from a woman to confirm our appointment. She stated, «I just want to make sure that you are actually going to show up!» Wow! I know it wasn’t Rachel she was actually nice over the phone. I believe it was the doctor that called me and was rude. I had to pay $ 80 the day before the appointment for my husband and I to come in and pretty much the lady read our packets did some pulse reading on us and told us what we had written down in the packets. We have health care and they didn’t even want to touch our health care. Some how the printer was down and couldn’t make copies of it. So me being me I scheduled the next appointment for us to to a medical history with the doctor, and then the acupuncture could begin. So a total of $ 320 cash it would cost to do acupuncture when our health care covers 3 acupunctures. Will we go back to these rude, high priced, snobs, absolutely not.

I was immediately impressed with Bob and the clinic as a whole. I met one of the girls at an event on the ferry and was amazed at what they could tell from a pulse and wanted to see more. My treatment for insomnia was mostly through herbs and some diet changes. After a few weeks I was sleeping better than I had in years!

Both my wife and I are very satisfied with the treatment and care we have received at the Acupuncture and Wellness Center in Poulsbo. My wife had serious pain issues with her feet and knees. The acupuncture treatments have helped her pain tremendously, and the herbal medicine has improved her overall health. For me, though I have no serious pain issues, the herbs and diet have helped me lose about 18 pounds and have significantly improved my blood sugar readings.

Sorry Mr Doane but my review IS 100% accurate. I’ve since gotten married so my last name has changed. It’s sad to me instead of fixing the issues almost everyone that posts about ur clinic has you get defensive and yell at your «customers» in all caps. What a shame but proves what a lot of us are saying… bad practice. And when I went in, I was told I needed to pay $ 2500 up front for my «bank». That is 100% truth. I even have excellent insurance but was still told to pay. You can yell at me and everyone that writes an honest yet perhaps hurtful review but I’m not trying to upset you. Just help you get a better reputation and perhaps have better customer service. Im sorry you’re upset and feel the need to yell at a woman but don’t you dare call me a liar. I have documentation that I would be happy to post for everyone to see and then what would you say? That I forged it? Focus your bad negative energy into something positive, like fixing your practice. Namaste.

The staff is kind, caring and extremely knowledgeable. Their treatments are effective and truly work wonders! My headache disappeared within seconds after the needles were inserted, it was amazing!

Went to the Clinic with sciatica pain and left after a number of treatments with more pain. Not to say this is always the case, I know someone who was treated there successfully.
Three things bothered me, 1. It appeared to me that many treatments were done by student/​Interns. 2. When Dr Doane did the treatment he literally raced through it to get moving onto his next patient trying to catch up due to over scheduling. 3. Next was the sales pitch which was to give them a 4 digit Chunk of money for enough treatments and herbs so as to «guarantee» to satisfactorily resolve my pain. If you read the fine print the guarantee is not a guarantee, it felt very much like a timeshare sales pitch. Don’t fall for it!

Overpriced. Rude costumer service and judgmental towards people. They will over look a person that is lower middle class and jump to help someone with money. Their diagnosis system is based soley off your appearance and is inaccurate. They lie about insurance coverage and then bill you in full. So many other places that are honest and true, keep looking, nobody should give this place a second thought!

Don’t ever sign up for a contract with them. They told me I needed to set up a contract for 4 months with accupture and herbs. I paid them $ 3800.00. It was the most painful thing I had ever done. After 3 sessions a week for over a month I had no change and said I thought it was best to cancel. That was Jan. 14^th it is now August 2^nd and I am still fighting to get my money back for the difference. Dr Doan gets you alone in a room and is worse than a time share salesman as far as pressuring you into setting up the contract. Lots of rude people and as far as I am concerned dishonest and uncaring.

Despite the often busy and hectic pace of this clinic, the medical providers at this clinic have a genuine care and concern for each and every patient that comes through their doors. Despite seeing many doctors, naturopaths, and other medical providers, no one could seem to help my wife with her health problems. The providers at this clinic took the time to get to the root of the problems and find real solutions!

My fiancé & I meet Robert Doane (the owner of this place) at the Kitsap wedding expo. They were offering free pulse readings. Most of the stuff he said about me was correct, although very common in most people. For example, he would say, «you have back pain. Or «you are stressed.» Don’t 99% of people get back pain & feel stressed at some point? I felt it a hoax but have wanted to try acupuncture for a while now, so my fiancé & I signed up for the free appointment they were offering at their clinic. The free appointment is the same exact thing they did at the expo, with the exception of asking you to make five more appointments. They tell you it has to be five because then they will be able to tell how your body reacts to the treatment.
My first appointment I meet with Janice to go over my medical problems. I enjoyed talking to her, besides when I told her I didn’t like the side effects of my ADD medication & she asked, «Why don’t you just do medical marijuana?» I was shocked, not only was it unprofessional & inappropriate but that would make no sense in aiding my ADD. My second appointment was with an enthusiastic woman whom I can’t remember her name but she definitely stood out due to her lack of medical education. She told me that my ADD is not caused by a chemical imbalance in my brain & that being congested caused my vertigo. This woman has absolutely no idea what she is talking about! Isn’t it illegal to be giving medical advice if you are not licensed to do so? I doubt she studied in school about either of these medical problems.
I was brought back to a different room. Jeannette Schreiber did my treatment that day. She didn’t seem very attentive or caring. Without explaining what she was doing, she grabbed this little machine that looked like a mini car jumper with one black & one red wire & attached it to some of the needles. Of course this made me even more nervous! I asked her what it was, she said «oh, just something to give a little more juice.» This may be her umpteenth time doing this, but it was my first. Then my leg twitched which made a shooting pain where the needles were. She said «oh yeah, moving is not recommended.» Another thing she should of explained to me before. I was to lie there for 45 mins with the needles in. They provide a small heat lamp for your feet, but other than that the room was cold. It was not a comfortable experience! After I left, I decided this was not for me and canceled my other appointments.
My fiancé decided to continue with the treatments in hopes that he would feel better. When his initial five apts were over they told him he needed to set up a 6-​month treatment with herbs & told him to pay upfront. The cost, over a thousand dollars. Robert Doane said he could break up the cost for him or suggested he put it on a credit card! When my fiancé said he would have to talk it over with me first, Robert Doane sounded like he seemed against that by saying «this is your health, what’s more important?» And asked my fiancé if we had any big expanses coming up to pay for. Is this guy serious? Does he know what the word «fiancé» means? He meet us at a wedding expo! How rude to not give consideration to the fact that my fiancé should talk it over with me! After my fiancé and I talked, he still wanted to try it out. I said ok because I’ve always said you should seek whatever medical treatment you think would help you. When my fiancé returns, Robert Doane says it would be best for him to squeeze all of his treatments into one month, doing three a week. I hope this is not a scheme to have him pay again soon.
When my fiancé came home with his bottle of mixed herbs I asked what was in it. He said they never told him & there was no label on the bottle. This should be if illegal if it isn’t already! Any real doctor would tell you it is important to know what you are taking even if it is just herbs! For example the herb «St. Johns wart» (used to boost your mood), did you know it limits the effectiveness of some prescription medicines including birth control? I am not against the acupuncture as my back muscles did feel more relaxed after words and my fiancé is reporting more comfort from his knee injury. I am just against this company and how they choose to run this place. I will never go back here again! P. s. sorry so long!

Nothing like the feeling of being cattle as they move everyone around and do your medical assessment in front of others. They delay your appointments at their convenience or keep you beyond your appointment time. They also don’t listen to your concerns or if you are hesitant regarding the needles. The first thing the primary doctor did was shove a needle directly into my foot knowing I don’t like needles. Now that is a concerned doctor, yay right!
They are too busy which doesn’t allow for focusing on the issues for the current customer because they are thinking about the next ones to come…
