Specialties
Personal.
Dan’s goal is that his clients feel proud of their home; a space that is the result of their interaction with the architect, each other, and their surroundings. Every detail is designed to improve their lifestyle through function and beauty.
Traditional.
Many of the firm’s projects involve renovating homes and designing suitable additions. We are sensitive to the existing structure; they research traditional styles, when necessary, to maintain the authenticity of the home.
Timeless.
Architecture reflects the attitudes of the times and Daniel Contelmo Architects feels responsible for making each home representative of their clients as well as the current culture. Each home is carefully crafted and exceptionally constructed, as beautiful in one hundred years as it is today.
Sustainable.
For us, sustainable design is inherent to the design process. We strive to use the best materials available, both natural and long-lasting. Reusing materials, while saving money and reducing waste, is also one of the best ways to reflect the history and evolution of the home.
Instinctive.
Dan applies these skills to his designs by responding to the client, the landscape, and the local vernacular. Clients need not be well versed in design to achieve their goals; Dan takes pride in deciphering their desires and how to design a practical and attractive home that will exceed their aspirations in the present and in the future.

Meet the Business Owner
Daniel C.
Business Owner
Dan has sought out as many art and architecture courses as were offered in his education, honing his inherent skills and dominating competitions in both areas. He was accepted to the New York Institute of Technology with a full baseball scholarship. However, at nineteen, Dan realized that he could not devote himself fully to both baseball and architecture. Ultimately, he forfeited his scholarship to focus on his architectural studies.
Dan worked for several architecture firms while still in college and went on to receive a Bachelor of Architecture degree. Following his graduation in 1985, Dan gained experience while working with several prominent architects. In 1989, he opened his own practice.
Since then, Dan has lived in Dutchess County with his wife Christine, where they raised their three children. Dan continues to use his artistic abilities to render solutions for his clients.
Twenty-five years since the inception of his firm, Dan’s passion for his craft has never been greater.
