Country Inn & Suites by Carlson – Frackville

My family and I stayed here for a weekend getaway and to go to Knoebel’s. We had 4 rooms and enjoyed every moment of our stay. The rooms were clean, the breakfast was hearty, the staff was friendly and the overall feel of the hotel was pleasant. My mother-​in-​law enjoyed her stay so much that she booked an additional weekend before she checked out. We will defiantly be returning in the near future.

A little off the beaten path to find at first but it’s nice outside, seemed like plenty of parking during the day time but when I got back to the hotel after 10pm the lot was packed so I had to park out back in a straight out of a horror film set looking back lot behind the hotel. My room was pretty big, very spacious. The king bed I got was nice and comfy. What wasn’t so kosher was the loud 18-​wheeler grinding noise the air conditioner made every time it turned on & off. Or the ice machine outside my door where I could hear it pumping out ice & folks a many trips to get said ice. All night. Luckily it was a cool night so I just went w/​o the a/​c and after awhile I blocked out the snow blower they called an ice machine. So I get the normal receipt slid under my door the next morning, only stayed a night, and it says to call the front desk for fast check out. I called at 8am and nobody answered. Called three times afterwards and still nada. What’s the point of fast check out options… if ya can’t use em. Any who, you get what you on for and so on and so forth. Wasn’t the worst stay I’ve had. That’s all I got.

We have family in the area, and there aren’t many options — especially not from international brands… so rather than taking a risk on the local establishments, we went with a familiar brand. Overall, not a bad place to stay.
The Pros:
The staff members are very kind; It is very clean; breakfast included; nice indoor pool and fitness center; right off I81; 24 hour hot beverage bar (coffee, tea, hot cocoa) and cookies; free WIFI, the reliability of an international hospitality chain;
The Cons:
1. THE LOCATION!!! It might say «Frackville» in the name, but it is nowhere near downtown Frackville. My GPS says «Pottsville», and my iPhone weather app says «Ashland».
Each of these towns are at least a good 15 – 20 minute drive, if not farther (which has been especially frustrating during this winter storm.) THE WORST PART: there aren’t even restaurants at this exit. We’re surrounded by warehouses and distribution centers. The next exit up has a few well-​known restaurants, and another hotel chain, so we maybe staying there next time.
2. The public areas: The breakfast room is small. This is probably fine for most times of the year, but during the holidays, it’s packed, and rather uncomfortable. The lobby is actually a lovely place to sit and socialize with family and friends, except the automatic doors kept opening to let in the cold air, and the fireplace wasn’t lit. So, after a while it was just cold.

Given the lack of hotel options in this area, my husband and I decided to stay here after our trip to Knoebels Grove. I feel obligated to write a Unilocal review because I read a few negative ones on here before we went and feel like they deserve another good review, as we had no complaints during our stay.
Our room was clean and comfortable and the hotel staff couldn’t have been nicer when we arrived around 11 PM. Breakfast in the morning was quite good and included «make your own» waffles, eggs, sausage and cereal — along with juice and coffee. There were two attendants at breakfast who kept cleaning the food area and replenished items as they got low.
We would definitely return.

We’ve stayed there 3 times in the last 4 years. Each time was a 4 – 5 night stay. This time we were disappointed because it wasn’t as good as in 2010 and 2012. Like much of corporate America they try to get by with too few workers. Housekeeping didn’t replenish the shampoo, so I called the desk. After 30 rings nobody had answered. I called again and got an answer on the 8^th ring. She asked me to come to the lobby to get some. Being ready for my shower I wasn’t dressed, so at least she agreed to bring it to our room.
They used to make the beds daily. Now they just move the sheets & blankets into a position that looks somewhat like the beds were made.
Also, there wasn’t enough staffing for the free breakfast. The problem was they were running out of things faster than the one employee present could replace them. Clearly a second worker was needed.
Lastly, I began to wonder if eggs are $ 20 per dozen in Pennsylvania. It seems to be a problem, because trying to get eggs at breakfast time was no easy task. They weren’t offered in any form on some days.
I wish they would raise the prices enough that they could provide the level of service they used to have. Otherwise this area while be wide open for competition from some other provider.

This hotel has very clean, large rooms at an affordable price. The staff was very friendly and we enjoyed the pool and hot tub. There is a free continental breakfast which is pretty tasty, free wifi, and a work out room. I need to come to this area about once a year and this hotel is the only place I will stay!

This is the best place to stay in the Frackville, Pottsville, Mt Carmel area, trust me on this.
The rooms are large, the staff is friendly and accommodating, the bathrooms are huge and very good water pressure.
The manager made an exception and allowed me to bring my dog and even though there was a charge it was well worth it considering the other pet friendly options in the area.
I will say when we arrived I was thinking this place is in the middle of no where, but if you hop on 81 North you can drive to Frack/​Pottsville and be there in ten minutes.

This really is a three star hotel but I’m throwing in an extra star for the great help I got at the front desk when I checked in at midnight.
The hotel has all basic amenities a traveler needs: breakfast, wireless Internet, hairdryer, etc. The rooms are nothing luxurious but nice enough and clean. The décor is a little kitchy but then again it is called «Country» Inn and Suites.
Be aware that the hotel is located about three miles down the road from where Google Maps places it. I called the front desk in a panic but they knew exactly where I was and directed me there efficiently.
If you’re in the area, which is to say, in the middle of nowhere, I’d recommend staying here.
