Walmart Vision Center

I brought my two young sons (7 and 4) for a check up before school started. I was able to make a same day appointment and wasn’t really concerned with a ‘Walmart quality’ optometrist as I thought it was just another simple check up for my kids. The doctor was wonderful with them, she was friendly and happy to explain all of the tools and tests to the kids and put them completely at ease.
To our great surprise, the 4 year old ended up having a significant vision problem in one eye. (This was his first vision check up) The Optometrist gave me a diagnosis and wrote a script for lenses, but she also referred us to a specialist.
I ended up taking him to CHOP and having him evaluated by a top pediatric ophthalmologist. Her diagnosis and prescription matched Walmart exactly.
We bought two pair of glasses through walmart and have had them replaced several times though their ‘insurance’. (He’s a 4 year old boy, he doesn’t really do careful!) His glasses or lenses were always replaced quickly and efficiently. Usually I would only have to call and tell them he broke X and they would order the replacement.
I am really surprised at just how great the vision center has been and will happily return in the future.

Three strikes and you’re out:
1. Blurry vision
The first pair of lenses they produced were blurry for distance vision.
2. Poor communication
They did not notify us when the replacement lenses arrived nor when the shipment was cancelled.
3. Incompetent lab
The lab in Minnesota cancelled our order without telling Walmart. 30 days elapsed before we called to find out what was going on. Walmart was flummoxed.
It turned out that the lab was unable to make the lens requested by Walmart.
We got our money back for the glasses, however we will not get the money back for the doctor whose prescription is questionable. We will not get back the time spent going to Walmart six times. It appears that Walmart Vision Center is just not equipped to handle the more complex glasses like trifocals.
