Stopped in at Potosi Brewery Restaurant while camping at Nelson Dewey State Park a short drive away. Was not disappointed. Didn’t take too long to get a table. Once we were seated though, it took probably at least 15 minutes for a waiter to come by. We had no drinks or anything. Eventually the hostess recognized we had not been approached yet by a server so she took our drink order. She and our eventual waitress apologized up and down for the«miscommunication» that delayed us getting served. In the end they comped one round of drinks. Thank you, thank you. Beer is always an acceptable apology in my eyes. Had the Flemish Red and the Grapefruit Hefeweizen. Both were so good! I would love to see the Flemish Red bottled so I can enjoy it all the time! Also had a sip of my husband’s Imperial IPA and The Ember(a tasty porter). I ate the blackened meatloaf sandwich and a cup of beer cheese soup. It was all delicious. Soup was served topped with some bacon popcorn that was a real nice touch. The focaccia that my sandwich was served on was SOOO soft and yummy! Husband had the beef dip and 14yo son had the mac and cheese(half order) and it was all really tasty. There isn’t much to offer in the area, but I would definitely stop in again if I found myself in the area. Would love to come back sometime for the tour and to check out the beer museum. Maybe enjoy a pint or two out in the beautiful beer garden.

I can safely say I’m a fan of this place after one visit, mostly because of two things: the quality of the food and the good ‘olé basic Potosi Ale, which I’ve poured down my throat quite a number of times in the past. The restaurant is a nice big, well-appointed room with old woodwork, and a long curved bar. I took a spot at the bar, ordered a beer flight and watched the food come out of the kitchen to see what looked good: The Reuben, check. The sliced brisket au jus, check. A burger, check. I ordered the Good ‘Olé Potosi Burger. It was done perfectly and the fries were like mom used to make. As far as the beer flight goes, you get your choice of six. My conclusion after trying them all was that I just like their golden ale the best. The others, a porter, a tangerine IPA, a coffee stout, a Dark Ale just tasted a little«watery.» The Belgian Wit was OK. In summer, there is an outdoor patio available, and the place is good for large groups. The other unique thing is the brewery’s historic significance and the attached info center, which I not stop to explore, nor the brewery tour. Great little day trip stop if you are in the tri-state Galena/Dubuque/Platteville area.

Amazing atmosphere and service. We usually order cheese curds when we go out to eat so we decided to order the fried cheese. We were not impressed at all. Other than that my BBQ pulled pork sand which and sweet potato fries were delicious. Also be sure to try the root beer.

Wanted to go and made the hourish drove from Galena after looking it up and checking their website. Upon arrival their sign said they were open, the website said the same and there was not a soul in sight.

I really enjoyed the Brewery Museum tour, and was looking forward to lunch, with a FREE glass of beer(take the tour, get beer). I had viewed the menu on-line, and I thought the«CAVEALE Pork & Kraut: Cave Ale braised pork shoulder» sounded good. It came out looking lonely on the plate, a pile of pulled/shredded pork and a small scoop of kraut. No bun, no sauce, no bread, nothing else. Don’t get me wrong, it was ok. But, not really what I expected, which was whole pork that I’d slice myself, perhaps with some sauce? The salad was good, I took some of the pork home for another meal. But I sure would not order it again. The Reuben was recommended, and in hindsight would have been a better choice. NICE open and airy restaurant, tall ceilings, with upper areas covered in vintage breweriana signs. I was quite impressed with the several dozen cars in the parking lot(plus a tour bus!). But, then, it is Potosi, and there are few places to eat other than the many bars. Good service, nice people, well-lighted, menu on-line, extensive selection of beer, with free samples. I’ll be back, but I’ll pass on the Pork & Kraut. BTW, the Brewery Museum starts downstairs(free, next to the restaurant), and continues upstairs. If you have any interest at all in old brewery advertising and collectibles, it is highly recommended, and well worth the few bucks(FREE beer included, did I mention that?).

We order cheese pretty much every place we go — the«fried cheese» didn’t live up to our hopes. I’d imagine it’s hard to deep fry Havarti because it’s so soft so you get this wedge of fried batter with some soft Havarti running out of it(way too much batter, little cheese inside). It was just weird. So I wouldn’t get them again… but that was the only food we had so I can’t speak for anything else. But, the atmosphere is great, our bartender was attentive and friendly, and the beer was awesome so I’d still rate it fairly high. Just a neat place to check out.

Great small restaurant. Great service. Food(fish sandwich) was excellent. Nice beers to choose from obviously. Loved the decorations. Much better than expected.

Their Food is EXCELLENT ! So cheese curds, Wisconsin cheese curds. I’d say this is the closet place serving non-frozen cheese curds-Wisconsin style one!

Cheese curds were awesome! Tasty and served hot. Very nice beer selection. Hey had about a dozen different beers on tap the night we went. I had the Ice Breaker Porter, very good. I recommend it. Their golden ale was nice and smooth too(Good Old Potosi). My wife had the Root Beer and I had a sip and it left me wanting more. The food was less than stellar. Wings were over done and were dry. Sweet corn pasta is a bold idea, but it didn’t work. Noodles were cooked through but were covered in oil. This dish was missing something to tie it all together. Mac and cheese was on the dry side. It could have used more cheese sauce. It left our mouths feeling dry. Maybe stick to the burgers at this place. 3 stars thanks to the beer.

Atmosphere was nice, people friendly, food was average. We tried a few of the beers, and they were all excellent. But when it came to the food, I wasn’t impressed. I had the beef(per the waitress’ suggestion), and it was dried out and tough. The beer cheese soup wasn’t like any I’ve had before. I’m not sure which of their beers they made the soup with, but it made it too bitter. The kettle chips were overcooked for my liking, but I work at a restaurant with really good homemade chips as well. If I were in the area, I would not likely come back here.

Met one of my favorite females here to chitchat and get grub. The brews are tasty. Snake is the all-star standout in my opinion. A shame they’re Bloody Mary wasn’t better. The pretzel appetizer is tasty(ask for Martha’s Hot Mustard for the dippy sauce), but could have used a tad bit more salt. Pass on the Bacon Mac & Cheese. It had been over 10 days since my last carb, and I was a bit sad it didn’t hit the spot. Could have used another level or flavor of cheese. Felt like multiple service personnel tried to rush us. They took the ketchup, mustard, everything off our table while we finished our drinks. There were open tables near us, so I’m fairly certain it wasn’t a seating/packed house thing… Just odd. Alas, all is forgiven as their saving grace is their Snake on tap!

We spent the weekend in Potosi, primarily for the Brewery! The ambiance of the restaurant is exactly what we love, and the food was fantastic!(Anything served on a pretzel roll is good, right?) the brat burger and the Mac and cheese were delicious. Brent our bartender was awesome and we plan to go back, stay at the lodge and enjoy a winter weekend at the brewery, too!

My family and I were in Dubuque, IA and found this place on beeradvocate and decided to check it out. We got there at 7pm on Sunday night of labor day weekend. They were packed and we didn’t have reservations(recommended) so they said we could order from the bar and go and sit out in the beer garden, which we did. Very nice night we enjoyed the evening and the kids were able to run around and they loved the pizza with real Wisconsin cheese, I had the cheesesteak and my wife had the pulled pork which was a ton better than Tony Roma’s earlier in our trip. The beer was excellent as well. I got the sampler which included 64oz pours. The museum was closed but we’ll stop by next time we are anywhere close. Definitely worth the drive out to the middle of nowhere; we need more beer gardens in America!

My boyfriend took me to dinner for my birthday in December. Food was ok, service was mediocre, the atmosphere was laid back and the restaurant is beautiful! The beer is just what we were looking for! I will go back just for the atmosphere and the beer! I liked the Good Old Potosi and the Malt Cave Ale.
