History

Established in 1990.

BreakThrough Test PrepTM, formerly Harriet Broder & Associates, Inc, has been offering innovative test preparation since 1990. Why innovative? BreakThrough may be the only program that has made teaching efficient reading skills — improving speed, comprehension and focus — an integral part of all test preparation. So not only do students learn invaluable strategies and techniques to improve their scores, but they also develop confidence in their critical reading skills — the foundation for true success. More specifically, this means knowing how to skim for the point, developing a reading range between 300‑1200 wpm as well as improving reading efficiency relative to school work. P. S. These skills also aid in students becoming more adept at understanding the often opaque math questions.

Prior to 2012, we were only offering preparation in the critical reading, Writing, English and essay portions of the exams. We have since expanded and developed an equally effective math program

Since 1978, I have been actively engaged in test preparation. I have had the pleasure of working with all levels of students from the Ivy-​League bound former President’s daughter to the weaker student struggling to improve her critical reading skills.

When I first began in test prep, I was hired to set up the SAT prep program of a small local company. After several years, I decided to form my own company with a colleague. This was the beginning years of test preparation, so we grew very quickly offering both group and tutorial programs.

Eventually, it became the time to go out on my own, thereby establishing Harriet Broder & Associates, Inc. I chose to offer only one-​one-​one test preparation. Why only tutorial programs: In a one-​on-​one teaching environment I know that ALL students will benefit — not so in a group program.

My associates and I have literally worked with thousands of students and been fortunate enough to know that we have truly impacted their lives for the better.
