Doug started with McLean Insurance after attending Randolph Macon College and the University of Florida graduating with a BS in Behavioral Psychology in 1984. He immediately returned to McLean to begin his career in the family insurance business. After Leukemia took the life of his father in 1990, he was thrust into the leadership role within the agency which at the time had three employees and less than $ 150,000 of revenue. Today the agency has more than 10 employees and over $ 13,000,000 of premium.

Doug is an active member of the McLean Rotary Clulb, Troop 572 of the Boy Scouts of America, The Lower Loudoun Little League, The McLean Chamber of Commerce, The Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce, The Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce, The Independent Electrical Contractors Assn — Chesapeake Chapter, NAIOP, NVBIA and the Loudoun Chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Cannot recommend. I used them to insure my cars and home. I had a minor change I needed to contact them about. I got my agent’s voice mail, promising to call back by end of business. She didn’t. Tried the next day, in the morning, but she was «in a meeting.» Asked if someone else could help me with this minor change. Got their voicemail.
Day three. Drove to their office. No staff visible at all. Everyone was gone – 10/10:30 am on a Wednesday. I still hadn’t been contacted. In the end it took nearly a week.
Fast forward to when I moved. I needed to change all my policies to reflect that. I called, and surprise! got my agent. Explained my new needs. She said she would get back to me as it was close to closing. (4:40ish) Oh… kay…
In the meantime, and knowing their track record, I got three other bids for insurance, and took one of those. It was a week before she called back, and then I had to tell her to cancel our policy effective day X. Clear right?
Not clear enough, I guess. I got another «bill» for the next six month period, and then another call with yet another bid? Took a lot more phone calls and emails to clear it up. Sort of defeats the purpose of an insurance broker if you have to work harder with one than without one.
By the way, although I am no longer a customer, they continue to e-​mail me, and even solicited this review.

Bait and Switch!
Got home insurance from them, was on the slower end to respond but had some amazing rates. Had to keep asking for more information. Not very knowledgeable.
Well it was too good to be true, 30 days after insurance policy started… I get an email saying they didn’t adjust accordingly for my home prices and its going to be a 20% increase in coverage. This is huge, for being in the industry, you would think they know how to sell a policy and do pretty accurate calculations of home prices. I even sent them my appraisal so there was no excuse for this.
