What a great surprise. It was my first time in Portsmouth and I didn’t know what to expect from a seemingly small NH city. This tiny second story gem with maybe a dozen tables won’t be easily forgotten though. The meal was beautifully presented, bursting with flavor, and truly delightful. The steak easily rivals any steak I’ve had at any of the big NYC steakhouses. The salad and desserts were great as well. My hat is off to the Chef and Owner who both introduced themselves.

Thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our meal. From starters to Dessert(Mushroom Crêpe, Beef Bourguignon and Crème Brulee), succulent flavors, with matching elements of fine cuisine. Staff very attentive and friendly. Looking forward to our next visit(Ireland).

We visited in June 2015 for my birthday and absolutely loved it here! This is a small, intimate place and was perfect for dinner to celebrate my birthday. We both went with the chicken special that night, it was a difficult decision because everything smelled and sounded so yummy! The drinks were awesome, and reasonably priced. The presentation was AMAZING! We had the crème brûlée for dessert — to die for! We will definitely be busting again this summer! If you call to make reservations(which I suggest) ask for a window seat. The sunset view was spectacular!

Good food and service. Place is small and charming. Unfortunately, the regular menu wasn’t available at the time(it was restaurant week) and I had wanted to try the beef wellington. Careful about following up on your reservation! Sometimes you don’t get a call back and once they mixed up another day’s reservation with the one I made the previous week. Everything was delicious, though and the staff is lovely.

As we called late for reservations, we opted to eat at the bar. Not a bad choice. Had a wonderful meal. If you truly want the Beef Wellington, reserve it when you make the reservations.

Great experience overall. Went here with my wife and parents and we had a great time. They even seated us early when we fled from a rainstorm. The place was totally packed by the time we started eating. Access is up a small staircase which then reveals an intimate dining room with great views of Portsmouth harbor. We had several of their interesting house cocktails as well as some red wine. Everyone seemed to like what they had. For dinner, we had the gnocchi with roast boar, another Boar entrée with fettucuni(both of these were braised in a wonderful red wine sauce), the seafood risotto(which was a very healthy serving and took two people to finish off), and a flank steak. Everything was cooked to perfection. The staff really went out of their way to make is feel welcome and were super helpful. When the waitress accidentally knocked over my wine glass(which only had a wee amount left) she gave me a new, full one. Just one example of their wonderful vibes throughout the evening. Would definitely return.

Very good meal. We both had the seafood risotto and it was cooked to perfection. There’s definitely an old time charm to this spot and it’s well worth trying.

Went to have a after dinner cocktail. Great looking place and super views. One great bartender but the male bartender simply is not a professional. He walked by many times with not noticing me and when asked him for something, it was like I bothered him. We need more professionals, I this industry! Great place to showcase it. Don’t hire the average

This is by far some of the best food I have had in a long time! The staff was very friendly as well. My only complaint is the décor but as that has no impact on food it isn’t a big deal.

I want to say thank you to the everyone at the Wellington Room. We live in Boston and are planning to make a trip up to NH again soon just because of this restaurant. We were in Maine on business and stopped there on the way back to Boston for our anniversary dinner. Everyone there was amazingly accommodating and friendly. The menu offered a significant amount of options for such a small place and everything we got was extremely good. I recommend the beef bourginon(sp?) We had a lobster bisque that they said was a special and it was hands down the best lobster bisque I have ever had. The view was perfect and makes this a truly special place.

Our friends researched the different restaurants that were in walking distance from our hotel and they came up with this one. I had no idea we would be in for one of the best dining experience I can remember. The dining room had a certain charm to it and the staff made us feel like they wanted us to experience perfection. I had the Panko Encrusted Tender Pork Loin and my wife had the Filet Mignon. All I can say is amazing and amazing. Along with our best friends, we left knowing we struck a grand slam! Our server was Julie. She was friendly, knowledgeable, and appreciated our humor. My next visit to Portsmouth, NH will definitely include dinner at The Wellington Room.

This is my new favorite restaurant in Portsmouth! It is quaint, beautiful views, incredibly friendly people, and even more incredible food. If you are a foodie, you HAVE to try this restaurant! Drink specials are amazing. Our recommendations would be the Mussels, Seafood Risotto, Grilled Chicken with Gnocchi, & Crème Brulee. Reservations are a MUST or you’ll never get in. Ask for a view of the water. There is a small bar you can sit, but there are maybe 6 seats. All in all I can’t say enough about this gem. It IS pricey…2 beers, a cocktail, 2 appetizers, and 2 meals(that were the lesser priced entrees) came to $ 125…but so worth it!

Awesome food with a fantastic view. Started with the crab cake trio and all three sauces were delicious. I ordered the chicken and gnocchi, while the Mr went with the Beef Wellington. Both entrees were superb. This Wellington puts my homemade one to shame. It was absolutely perfect. Crème brûlée and the Peet’s coffee with Baileys for dessert. I can never pass up crème brûlée as it’s my absolute favorite dessert and this certainly was not disappointing. My advice: make a reservation & come early on a Friday. Being a fashionably late diner could result in missing out on the Beef Wellington and won’t want to miss out on this one. The Beef Wellington special is every Friday and in limited quantities. Can’t wait for our next visit.

«Intimate dining at its best!» Small hidden gem in Portsmouth. This restaurant is locally sourced and often changes it’s menu to provide fresh dishes with in season ingredients. Crab cake appetizers were fantastic with three delicious sauces. Our group tried the lamb, the beef, the scallops and pasta dishes and all were well presented and delicious. The restaurant overlooks tug boat ally so ask for a table near the windows. The owners Karen and Matthew and waitstaff were all warm, friendly, and very attentive! We knew it would definitely become one of our go to dining places. So good in fact, we selected the Wellington Room as the venue or our intimate vow renewal. The restaurant was completely ours for the night and it was just the right size to fit 30 of our closest family. Karen and Matthew were easy to work with and made sure to help us think of all the details from the menu to the flowers on the tables. The food was but the coordination of the staff to deliver fresh, hot, delicious meals to everyone at the same time, was perfect. Our guests are still raving about their meals! Karen, Matthew and all their staff were very attentive and it added to the enjoyment of the evening — they became«part of the family». If you are having a small event in Portsmouth, I can’t urge you enough to look into having it here.

Seats at the bar with a glass of Pinot Noir and water in mismatched glasses. A server that was warm and willing to give recommendations. Fresh bread with scallion garlic butter. Appetizer of mussels steamed in lager(& tomato & garlic). A visit from the chef about his need to make a substitution.(He was a delight!) Meals of seared scallops with potato wedges, squash & spinach, and short ribs so tender they were like butter and served with whipped potatoes and turnip. I can’t say enough about the tender short ribs with so much rich flavor. The crème brûlée is just as good as the other reviews say. A delightful experience. So glad to have experienced it. The staff helped finding a place for an after-dinner drink.

Excellent. I was invited to a dinner here with some family members. I am glad I got this chance. First of all, Portsmouth is a cool city! This restaurant is in a cool place — a top floor — overlooking the water! It is a quaint little dinning room that has some wonderful charm! The paintings on the wall are beautiful and done by a local artist. Now to the fun stuff… the food! The chef and owner clearly care about top notch food! It shows through each wonderfully prepared dish. Every appetizer was excellent — we had a number and shared. Korean Lettuce Cups — Braised Pork, Kimchee, Ginger Soy Glaze: excellent flavor, nice kimchee, light and delivious. Mushroom Crêpe — Crimini mushrooms and shallots, with Boursin mousse, port wine reduction: it tastes light for the indulgent dish that it is. The Boursin mousse is awesome. House Made Gnocchi — Applewood bacon, cremini mushrooms, English peas, Parmigiano-Reggiano: just awesome! Fluffy gnocchi made just right! The Main Courses that followed were equally as delicious — I will write about my own. I had sea scallops pan roasted with a pistachio herb dressing with watercress and roasted fingerling potatoes! –The scallops were delectable! Cooked and seared to perfection. Nice little crispy bacon piece atop each scallop. The potatoes were good. The watercress was the only weird part — nice light dressing, but it sat alone on the plate and was disconnected — not bad, but it did not enhance the dish at all. The pistachio herb sauce was just the right amount of flavor to enhance and not detract from the scallop. The desserts were delicious as well and not to be missed! Overall, this is an excellent restaurant that deserves all the high marks it has been achieving!
