Prelude was originally started in 1984 and is currently owned by Brie Delisi. She revitalized Prelude with a full renovation and is now working to bring her own style to this Portsmouth staple.

Business Owner

Brie grew up in New Hampshire, her mom owned Serendipity Boutique based in Portsmouth and Exeter for 30 years. Growing up in a store it was only natural for Brie to own her own! She owned Serendipity of Exeter for 10 years and now is thrilled to be back in her home town of Portsmouth.

I love that Prelude supports local companies and jewelers. I visit often to buy goat milk bar soap and lotion. They carry beautiful, hand made jewelry and great gifts to give people. They often have sales on their jewelry as well.

This is a store for someone else, and I like it for that. It’s one of the few places in town where there’s a decent variety of smelly little soaps and various things that are good for Christmas stocking stuffers. There isn’t anything in here that I want for myself but I have luck buying silly things for my wife here. It’s one of the few gift shops that I think is actually good for buying gifts.

I’ve been shopping here since I was in high school. They have a great selection of jewelry, perfumes, soaps and Crabtree & Evelyn. They also carry men’s items and have a great selection of shaving items. I bought my husband a great shaving brush and razor here. Nice quality items and great place to find a gift.

Prelude is a great little boutique for soaps, perfumes, bath bubbles, jewelry and mostly stuff my mom would die for and I would never. That being said, I’m no personal lover of the wares in here but I will readily admit that they have something pretty good going here. I’ve purchased a Christmas gift or something at Prelude maybe three out of the past four years and it’s always been a hit. There are little bath bubble animal things for ten cents a piece or something that are very popular with little kids too. The rest is slightly pricey but it’s definitely to be expected for the stuff you’ll find here. The only limitation of Prelude is the store’s size and yes, the selection suffers slightly. If you want to purchase a nice gift or some bath/​jewelry stuff for yourself or someone else, Prelude is a pretty good place to look and I would definitely recommend it.
