Yoga Union Community Wellness Center

This is such a great studio! I’ve been coming here for years and I’d definitely say it’s top notch and not to be missed in Portland. The teachers are excellent, the class schedule is broad and varied, and the pricing is super fair. The building they’re housed in is beautiful and such an amazing space to be in. There’s a café and health center AND sauna! If you’re traveling, I highly recommend this place to stop through and if you live in the area, consider yourself lucky.

I’ve been practicing for almost 20 years and I love this place. All the teachers here are excellent, and they teach beautiful, fun, safe classes. I always come away with something new The new Breathe building is amazing and the sauna is a wonderful addition.

the new space is just wonderful! roomy and clean and really well planned. I’ve been waiting to make YU my yoga home again and the time has finally arrived. with my membership I have use of the sauna anytime, as many classes as I need, mat storage (I leave my heavy one) and discounts on all the great offerings including workshops, food and alternative care. the instructors are varied and wonderful so anybody can find a suitable option. theres a real community vibe and I’m loving it. good to be back! xoxo

I love yoga union. The teachers are superb and there is a community feel to the place. They host lots of events and workshops so that you can deepen your practice beyond the normal classes

Words cannot express how much I miss this place! There is a very strong sense of community here.

I live in Salem and often come to Yoga Union for all of the guests they host. They really do get the best guest instructors! I’ve come to MC Yogi twice, Matthew Remski, Sianna Sherman, and Jules Mitchell and each one of them was beyond awesome. A lot of their teachers attend as well, so I have no doubt their teachers are very knowledgable and great. I’d go to every event they had if I could.

I have to agree with Ellen. Used to love this place, but I’m moving on. They’ve sold way too many groupons and the classes are almost always overfull. I often have to limit my poses because my neighbors are too close, and I even make sure to show up early to secure a spot. I like the teachers, and it’s usually not too overly woo woo (which has turned me off at other studios), but if they don’t start limiting class capacity, they’re going to lose other amateur community yoginis like me.

I truly enjoy coming to Yoga Union. I am not a totally serious Yogi but I do enjoy yoga and I have to say the two Restorative Classes I have been to are outstanding. Highly recommend them. Great place, great teachers and friendly people. YAY!

I love yoga union! I’ve been to a few studios in the SE and find that this one is superior by far.
The instructors are well trained, give good feedback and the focus here is truly on the highly personal yoga experience — as opposed to attaining the perfect forever young hot yoga body, which is the attitude that prevails in some studios around town.

Unilocal has given me a chance to experience a yoga studio that doesn’t make you feel like your just another client and left out if you aren’t a yogi! The studio is beautiful… they managed to make it feel like your at home with an industrial edge to it! I will be telling others to try this studio and i might have to go out of my way atleast 2 – 3 times a month just for an oasis escape. For the first time in a long time i was able to feel like i could gain a practice outside of my four walls! Thank you

I worked one on one with Annie during recovery with a herniated disc. She is not only highly experienced with yoga but she is also very well informed with the body to the point that she can help one through injuries or what ever shortfalls one may have. I also gathered that she continues her education and continuously tries to improve her practice. I was highly appreciative towards her follow up with me months after my last visit and recovery which indeed led me to write this review. She really cares about the people she sees and their progress.

Can’t wait to try more than just Bikram style.

I love yoga union! The classes are all amazing, the instructors are great and really seem to love guiding the classes, which makes them that much better. The studio is beautiful and inviting and the community of people are all so kind. just walking into the building makes you feel a little less stressed. I stood in line yesterday to get into my regular Sunday hot flow class (not a normal, its just yoga challenge month) and not one person was complaining, everyone was just there to spend 90 minuets of their day enjoying the practice of yoga, it was amazing! Love Saturday morning hot flow with Natalia, starts the weekend off right! I only have positive things to say about yoga union!

Where do I begin? Yoga Union is easily my favorite yoga studio in town. After running the Groupon/​intro special gauntlet I have happily settled at Yoga Union and bought an annual membership.
It is a true community there, and as cheesy as it sounds you can really feel the love in that space. The owners Todd and Annie are such genuine people. Not to mention that their knowledge and teaching styles (they are both very different, but so wonderful and challenging) keep me looking at the clock during the day, anxiously awaiting to get off of work so I can go to my new happy place.
And the fantastic teacher label is not limited to the owners. I have taken classes from almost all of the instructors, and I have really enjoyed each class for what it is. Each teacher truly has something to give to me as a student. I gladly receive it! The classes always seem to be exactly what I needed on that particular day.
This studio is good for all levels, and it is not competitive. It’s a supportive community that really encourages you to be exactly where you are.

I am so happy I found this place, I was first a little undecided if I should attend one of the classes or not, because I am a beginner, while others there may be all on an advanced level, and that can be embarrassing sometime…
but I was impressed about how comfortable the whole thing was, this place has really a relaxing power and is calming and quiet. It made me feel totally at ease and felt no judgment from any of the other members or the instructor, even though I am new and could not really keep up with the changing of all Yoga exercises .
I liked that signing up was really easy and simple, without needing to sit down for hours and fill an extremely long application and they made me feel very welcome!
I like the decoration, is clean and has a nice and light aura, which also helps a lot, and prices are good so I give it 5 stars

I’m so happy to have found my neighborhood yoga studio. I love this place. The classes and teachers are just what I’m looking for, and the schedule is extensive enough for me to fit classes into my weird work schedule. The person at the front desk is always so friendly, which is a nice change of pace from some snobbier yoga studios. The sign-​up process was really easy and quick, both with my 2 week introductory special, and my membership. I wasn’t pushed to buy anything else. The studio space is spacious and walled with mirrors.
Winter is great. Her classes are the perfect pace — not intimidating for those who want to take it a little slower, but plenty of time for exploration for those with a more advanced practice.
Parking is really easy, too!
Great selection of yoga clothes in the lobby to buy. Flashy yoga pants for days.
I think it’s really cool that they have teen girl yoga, too. I would have loved that when I was a teenager.

I purchased a Groupon for Yoga Union eons ago, and I finally decided to put it to use. I’m so glad I did!
First of all, the ladies who work the front counter are super friendly, which is huge for me. That may sound like a silly requirement, but I’ve experienced some snarky desk people at other studios, and it made me feel uncomfortable about going because I can be a freakishly socially-​inept doofus.
The dressing room is also really nice, and much more spacious than I’m used to. There are cubbies, three showers, and a bathroom stall (covered by just a curtain, so freakishly socially-​inept doofuses beware)!
The studio itself is lovely, with lots of windows and a beautiful bamboo floor. Best of all, it’s BIG. The class could be totally packed, but you never have to worry about your sweat-​slicked arm inadvertently grazing over the sweat-​slicked arm of your neighbor. Germaphobes, rejoice! They even put out baskets of washcloths, so if you forget a towel, you’ll have something to wipe your face with. I always sweat like a 300-​pound dude with a hangover, so this is an awesome perk.
The classes themselves are really good, and there’s a wide variety of styles taught every day, at all different times. You can always find a class you’d like to attend at a convenient time. Also, if you live in the hinterlands and need to drive, there is always street parking within a block.
The only thing that makes me feel weird is that this is a community… a serious one. It seems like everyone is best friends and there’s lots of hugging and weekend trips to the beach and traded baby-​sitting. That’s awesome, but then there’s me standing in the corner all alone with my Groupon. Sad face. Well, maybe I’ll make some friends eventually. In the meantime, I’m going to work on my alignment flow and my flabby abs. All it took was 10 classes to turn me into an unlimited monthly member. Check it out! If you see me there, maybe we could hug or plan a trip together or something.

I’ve been to many yoga studios around the Portland area and this studio is by far the best! The instructors are very knowledgeable and welcoming. I love how they offer different types of classes throughout the day so there is always one I can make. I would highly recommend Yoga Union, which I do often, to anyone who is looking for a great place to practice!

Most of the instructors are gracious and well-​trained. The rooms are fresh and airy even after the ‘hot’ classes because they open the garage door for a nice breeze. Location is convenient to bus #4 and #14. Neighborhood studio with beautiful smooth bamboo floors and a light feeling, very nice. I adore the restorative classes after a long day at work but have to be careful to choose the better teachers.
Good hatha yoga teachers IMO use the minimum amount of instruction, are clear precise and gentle in speech, use only positive terms, quietly but attentively watch students who might want a gentle hand for help, but are otherwise not a show-​off personality. Carisa is this ideal teacher. I am addicted to her relaxing restorative instruction and the soothing climate she creates in her popular, packed classes. I especially like her deeply calming, carefully chosen quiet music .
However as others have mentioned there is a troubled male owner-​teacher who is simply not suited to teaching. This self-​appointed preacher seems to ruin whatever class he butts into. He plays adolescent loud music on the wall speakers (Neil Young Southern Man? Loud? during yoga class?) Just as the asanas start to work their magic and the energy in the room settles down, he disrupts the flow with unsolicited short sermons on the «yogic lifestyle». Random «insights» from his own life, peppered with emotionally charged language, are not only irrelevant but downright intrusive. I avoid this guy’s classes like the plague (which is too bad because he took over the Sunday restorative slot that I really liked.)
The owners have greatly improved this property and it is now a lovely place to practice. However a good yoga business owner is not necessarily a good yoga teacher. I’d recommend to sample a few classes in styles that you like in order to find a suitable teacher.

Hot yoga makes me sweat.
Yoga union makes me smile.
Smiling while sweating is a good thing.
I’m on the 2-​week trial, but I doubt I’ll ever escape without becoming a monthly member.
Quality instructors, good facilities, nice people, and… uh… did I mention HOT YOGA???
I need some more water.
