Waste Management of Oregon, Inc.

Dealing with Waste Management for service at this address has always been problem-​strewn. The most recent episode was when they suddenly changed our commercial account to a residential account… and then stopped providing off-​curb service for a three plex that they had been servicing for ten years. Garbage and recycling started piling up in the enclosure. Tenants were complaining. I thought that it was a problem with the driver, so I call and call for eight weeks trying to solve the problem, trying to get the driver written up, trying to speak to a manager… They start taking the garbage but don’t take the recycling. After ten weeks, the customer service rep tells me that they will remove the garbage away from the enclosure (off-​curb service) but that the tenants will have to take the recycling containers to the street weekly, citing company policy. I talk to a manager who tells me that they are bound by City ordinances and there is nothing that they can do. Not liking that answer I talked to a manager’s manager who told me that they would have the route manager and customer relations liaison call me. Four days passed without a phone call, so I called the City to inform them of the issue. I get a call back telling me that the route manager, the person who was too busy to call me back, needs to go by to make sure it is not dangerous to do so for the driver. I am hoping that we are close to having a resolution, but somehow have a sneaking suspicion that suddenly what they had been doing for ten years will have become too «dangerous.»

I had a terrible time over the phone with them for months. They would cancel my service while my account had a zero balance and then I would have to call multiple times to get them to pick up even after they admitted fault. All my issues were resolved by visiting their main Portland office in person. Everything has been just fine since then.
