Long story short, my car (loan and title) was in my mothers name. When she passed, the bank it was financed with, coincidently the same bank I work for, would not refinance it. I’m on medical leave and in the process of getting divorced. Needless to say I was between a rock and a hard place.
I was out one day with a friend and saw the car I’ve been wanting for years, a Subaru Outback sitting on the lot at Tristar. We pulled in and I got out to look. They were just opening, putting out balloons, unlocking the office, that sort if thing.
Emmett was walking out of the office as I got to the car and he could not have been nicer. I explained this was the car I was looking for but because of my situation I’d probably have to settle for something else because on top of everything else my credit is rocky. He asked if I had a few minutes to fill out an application and that he’d see what he could do for me. There was no pressure, no hassle. He came back within just a few minutes and explained that he couldn’t get me financed for the entire price of the car but that with a small down, not only could I get it but the interest rate would be very, VERY low.
I wanted to look at the Carfax and before I could even ask about it Emmett offered it to me. The other issue was, because its an older car, I wanted my mechanic to have a look, No problem there either, they welcomed the idea and said that if he didn’t give it a clean bill of health, I could bring if back, no worries at all.
I’m now driving around in my Outback and telling everyone what a great experience I gad and how wonderful everyone was at Tristar.

Torn as to whether to give them one star or two…
S-​k-​e-​t-​c-​h-​y. Their name is ambitious, but I’m not sure they’ll ever sell a Mercedes, because nobody in the market for a Mercedes would trust them. We fell for a not-​that-​old Toyota, though we hadn’t quite made up our minds. They did a great job pressuring us into it, I’ll give them that. They looked at me like I’d sprouted another head when I asked them if they’d inspected the airbags. How can I possibly know more about this than you? The car’s tire indicator light was on, and I asked them what that was about. They assured me that their mechanic (pretty sure they don’t have one) had inspected the car and that the mechanic «didn’t have the tool» to turn the light off. Wanna know what that tool was? An air pump. The car is smart (–er than these guys) and knew that it needed air.
They also couldn’t figure out how to turn the dash lights on. Frustrating.
Then, they agreed to send us the plates, because we live about an hour away and didn’t want to drive back up for them. A month and a half later, we call to ask if they’d sent in the change of title and such and ask where our plates are, and we get «oh, we thought you were coming back for those.» One, no, that’s not what we agreed upon, and two, how would we know if you hadn’t called to let us know they’d come in???
Still never received the car’s registration, which I’m getting suspicious about, but it’s easier to deal with the DMV.
When we got it home, we looked up on Toyota’s website, and saw that the car had several outstanding (about a year old, TSA had it for 6 months) recall notices. Took it to the Toyota dealer, who informed us that used car dealers are supposed to take care of the issues. Not surprising.
Frustrating. Would not recommend to anyone I like.
