History

Established in 1952.

TAI was started in the early 1950s by Jim McKillip, PT and Robert Dicus, PT, two of the founders of private practice PT in the country and founding members of the APTA section on Private Practice. Their vision was to help people in safe, caring, and healing environments. Their standards for excellence drive our company to this day.

Our company history dates back more than 50 years, but our mindset is always now and in the future. The goals of our care plans and the objectives of our patient education and therapy interventions are constantly evolving. Every therapist in our organization is subject to a process designed to ensure that not only their healthcare credentials satisfy industry standards, but that they meet our standards of professionalism. We feature an in-​house curriculum of continuing education, but we also invest in each therapist’s career development through financial subsidies they can apply to their chosen specialty of care.

Business Owner

Tony graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Exercise and Sport Science in 1994 and was a member of the Men’s Varsity Basketball team. He attended graduate school at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon and earned his Physical Therapy degree with distinction in 1998. He has continued his education with advanced training in the North American Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy, having achieved Level IV Certification in Manual and Manipulative Therapy. He also completed his Clinical Doctorate in physical therapy in 2008.

Tony enjoys working with a variety of musculoskeletal disorders of both the spine and extremities in the young and aging population. His areas of interest include rehabilitation of sports injuries, on-​the-​job injuries, motor vehicle accidents, repetitive overuse injuries, and post-​surgical conditions.

In his leisure time, Tony participates in many outdoor and sporting activities, including golf, skiing, weight training, and basketball.

If I could give 100 stars I would. Tony is the most amazing compassionate person and physical therapist. I’ve been dealing with lower back pain and he has bent over backward to help me. I can say whole heartedly, that NOBODY IS BETTER. He is super knowledgeable but most importantly he really really has cared about helping me. I’ve seen so many doctors and had so much pain, and there’s times that Tony is the only one there to help and be my shining light when I’m feeling hopeless about my injury. PLEASE give him a try if you’re looking for a place.

I waited over a year and a half to get my frozen shoulder looked at. I really thought it was hopeless. I can’t believe how wrong I was, it’s been a month since I started and the results are just amazing. The head physical therapist tony is just an awesome therapist, he was the reason I decided to try. The staff there is just warm and friendly. The facility is absolutely top notch it’s not pretentious it’s really comfortable and modern, there isn’t an outdated piece of equipment there.

Every single staff member is amazing.
I’ve been in PT for months. and they’ve ALL been super attentive and supportive. I’ve made amazing improvements, and I couldn’t have done it as well without them.
After seeing Jordan as my physical therapist, I refuse to go anywhere else. He really sets the standard for quality of care.
Everyone’s enthusiasm has helped me get through some tough times this year, and I am forever grateful.

First of all, I have never written a review on Unilocal for anything, but I felt compelled to write this one today.
I have been coming to this office on and off for a year and a half now, and the therapists are the best I’ve ever encountered. They are knowledgeable and work with patients based on their goals. I’m an athlete with a two year old daughter, so not being able to walk without pain totally disrupts my life.
My quality of life has improved immensely through their care, the front desk staff are very friendly and willing to explain benefits to you, and they go above and beyond to fit you into the schedule if you are in pain.
Come in! Get fixed! Stay off the injured list!

This place is the fantastic. I see Tony, and he is very easy to work with, friendly, helpful, encouraging, and smart. He has a great sense of humor which helps when you’re dealing with something that can sometimes be awkward and painful like physical therapy. The front desk person is super nice and they have free coffee which is necessary when your appointment is at 6:20am. Everyone there is super friendly and welcoming. The space is gorgeous, brick walls, high ceilings. The whole place is just great. I highly recommend them!

this place is amazing. Jordan is a stud. He is so knowledgeable in his trade. i came in for a knee problem and after 2 months left with my knee fixed and my back problem (i have had back problems for many years) on the mend. its not often you come across someone that truly cares and wants to help make you whole again. i would recommend this business to anyone. …plus the hours, they are open later and earlier then most places, and for me that meant not having to miss work. i also have to give a shout out to the front desk staff. they are super friendly and make you feel welcome.

A few months ago I suffered from a badly torn gastrocnemius muscle, which left me unable to walk, using crutches, and in a lot of pain. When I chose a physical therapist, I just picked the one which had the highest Unilocal rating, was easiest to get to, and accepted my insurance. I worked with Jessica and Rachel, and they’ve both been very helpful, motivational and patient. From my fist appointment until now I’ve gone from not being able to walk (or even close to resting my left foot flat on the ground) to my normal, pre-​injury ability, if not stronger… I’m back at the gym, doing pilates, and (if the weather cooperates) I’ll be going on my first post-​injury hike this weekend! Another thing that really impressed me about Therapeutic Associates is that they’re always on schedule, which is pretty important when you’re stepping away from your desk in the middle of the day for an appointment. Street parking in this area is almost always easy to find, but there’s also a lot a block away that I needed to use a couple of times.

I can play guitar again!
A little over a year ago, I started lifting weights, doing pushups, and other workout stuff that stressed my wrists. I’m sure I didn’t have proper form with the weights, which really tweaked things. Soon, my #1 hobby (guitar) started to suffer, and my wrists were sore all the time. I went to two doctors (including my PCP), and they both said «It’s tendinitis, just rest it and it’ll get better.» So, I did that… for months… and no dice. I tried acupuncture, and it provided some temporary relief, but no answers. So I finally bit the bullet and went to these guys downtown — they put me at ease on the first day, explaining that it wasn’t exactly tendinitis, but an overuse injury. They gave me some exercises to strengthen my forearms and wrists (it felt great to use them again), and started me on a regimen of ASTYM, which is basically something they do to force the muscles to heal properly (by sort of micro-​injuring them. I dunno, look it up). I felt better immediately, and got stronger and stronger. All in all, it took 6 or so visits to complete the ASTYM. It wasn’t too expensive — they worked with me on setting up a schedule that wouldn’t break my bank (also, it’s cheaper to go out of pocket, especially if you have a high deductible like I do). They were super friendly about helping me figure all that out.
Anyway — super friendly people (front desk, interns, and PTs all); nice place, convenient location; and above all, they know what they’re doing. Highly recommended.

My experience at Therapeutic Associates has been outstanding! I was referred to Tony Rocklin by my Orthapedist to help with pain that I was experiencing in both of my hips. Tony has been great. He is very encouraging and taught me that through consistent exercises, handson therapy and using a cool device called a «HipTrac» that he personally developed that significant pain can go away! The HipTrac enables you to do self-​traction on the floor by putting on a modified «boot» and hooking it into a track with a hand pump. The pump pulls your foot away from you. It actually feels fantastic and has provided tremendous relief. For the first time in 9 months I am walking normally again and gaining back my flexibility and strength. I am really grateful to Tony, Chase and his team. I never thought I would feel so much better. Great experience in every way.

Sanatan Golden is been a life saver. As a runner I’m very careful on ANY medical advise when it comes to running and working out. When I came to see Sanatan Golden my fears where taken away knowing that he fully gets it from my point of view as a runner. My injury started after the Portland marathon and had plans of the ultra in a few months. Looking back now this injury was such a blessing to me as it meant a major change in my form which will prevent a lot of injuries down the road. He walks the talk. Most doctors would say STOP, but Sanatan Golden said keep going, but with a totally new running form and care. When I first started I though the dreams of running a ultra marathon were gone, but now 6 months later I have more hope than ever with the ability to run 20 miles every weekend and feel totally fine the next day, just as if I ran a 5k. I never had that before.
The most important thing is come with a open mind to be retrained, in the beginning it may seem slow, but his treatment will pay off BIG time.

I was referred to Tony Rocklin after a car accident. I’m so glad I was. The whole experience from start to finish was highly professional and results driven. Tony is amazing and the whole team (including the front desk the assistants and the 3 physical therapists with whom I consulted) is thorough and accommodating and upbeat. My husband and I received highly personalized and attentive care. I am very happy with the service and the results. I cannot recommend Tony highly enough. Tip: they are just about to relocate (June 2012) to a beautiful new renovated office across the street from the current office. Make sure you have the current address.

I came here for a consultation because I was feeling some pain in my knees and feet, and was greatly impressed by the professionalism and friendly demeanor of the staff in the office. I had my visit with Tony Rocklin, and had the opportunity to learn a lot about how my body works and what areas I need to improve on. He took a video while I walked and ran on the treadmill, which further confirmed his diagnoses. Now I have some exercises to work on…

10 years ago, after two back surgeries, my surgeon said I had too much scar tissue for another surgery. I came to David Deppeler with a painful back, a severely arthritic hip, and sciatica. After 6 months of David’s prescribed exercises I was able to hike again, my sciatica was gone, and I had vastly less back pain. Recently David told me my hip had so little flexion I needed hip replacement surgery. My hip surgery was successful but it led to some back pain, which David’s exercises cured in a month. David is patient, gentle, caring, explains everything carefully, he is personable, professional and, best of all, successful. The staff at Therapeutic Associates is tremendously helpful.

I was in town from the East Coast for a race and was worried about an ankle sprain. I walked in and the staff was nice enough to ask if they could fit me in for an immediate consultation. I was definitely appreciative of that, especially since I was on a tight timeline.
I met with Catie, who was excellent in explaining to me about how ankle sprains happen and how the anatomy and physiology of my body was handling it. She gave me a set of exercises, all the while clearly explaining everything to me.
If you want a PT that is smart and willing to explain things in a non-​patronizing manner along with a great staff, I highly recommend this office. Thanks guys!
