Super fun location! $ 8 a ticket and $ 2 skate rentals, could not be anymore convenient! Inexpensive fun at its finest! Would highly recommend! Tucked away location on the water, very pretty to see at night.

The best thing to happen at thompsons point so far! This is family friendly, or not late at night if you like to avoid crowds of kids falling on the ice. The view is lovely, the food smells great, awesome beer selection and a gorgeous yurt to hang in! I’m in love with thompsons point and can’t wait to see more happen down here. Thanks Portland for letting cool places like this happen!

The Rink at Thompson’s Point is great place for ice skating. It’s a happy place. Although it’s small, the music is fun and there are three areas where you can warm up. Last night there were plenty of people trying to remember how to ice skate with huge smiles on their faces. The warm yurt with craft liquid courage is an added bonus. It was a bit crowded at 8pm on Friday and it would have been nice if there was a second bartender, but maybe we just grabbed a beer at a busy time. Next time I won’t eat dinner before I arrive so that I have an excuse to try out the food trucks!

Awesome spot on the water and great heated areas to warm up. I can’t really think of a better use for the piece of land. I’d recommend avoiding prime time weekends because it can get a little crowded– but otherwise no complaints!

Chill: The rink is too small, but the location is sweet. Warm: The three warm-up options almost make the $ 8 price acceptable. Maine: Come on, you wanna skate, just drive around the woods basically anywhere and find the first pond with some people who aren’t drowned, then join them… Christmas: It’s cool to bring the out-of-staters to this Point and then usher them into Portland culinary paradise after they have chilled their bones skating for an hour or two. Canada: I spent quite some time skating here while my kids were working at the Open Bench just across the parking lot, and I got really frustrated at the fact that so few people knew how to skate. I spent most of my time avoiding little kids and clueless newbies. People gotta learn somewhow, and more power to them for getting on that weird stuff called ice, but to real skaters just be warned!!!

The Rink at Thompson’s Point is a pretty outdoor rink with a warm tent that has comfy seating and bar in a yurt. It is way out on Thompson’s point with beautiful views of the water. I highly recommend going for the 3:00 — 5:30 pm open skate session so you can be there for the sunset. It is $ 8 to skate, $ 2 for skate rental and $ 2 for a locker. There is free parking. The ice is nice a clean and the rental skates have sharp blades and didn’t hurt my feet. Unfortunately they only had hockey skates as an option, no figure skates for rent. The rink wasn’t too crowded and I felt like there was plenty of room to skate fast or practice simple tricks. The Yurt(and bar) are well heated and they serve a few local options for beer and wine including Bissel Brothers beer and Cellardoor Wines. All drinks are $ 6. There is also a good truck parked out front for snacks.

Thompson’s Point has teased with many great ideas in the past that didn’t deliver, so it’s with great surprise that the best idea yet actually is open… and it’s awesome! Imagine outdoor skating on a covered rink next to the ocean with music blaring, great lighting, a craft beer yurt, warming lounge and food trucks. It’s nearly winter heaven, and is sure to be popular. While the location, hidden on a dirt road behind the Amtrak/Bus station is still mostly industrial, they’ve done a great job creating The Rink. Parking is free and unlimited, and you pay at the trailer near the ice. There are various«sessions» listed on the website that run from 2 – 3 hours. Regardless of what time you come during the session, your skate time ends when the session ends, since they zamboni it for the next one. It’s $ 8 per session and skate rentals are $ 2. The skates are high quality and run 1.5 sizes small(I’m a 9.5 normally but my skate size was 8). I haven’t skated since I was a kid, so it was humbling to watch little kids whiz by as I struggled to stay balanced, but it was still a fun time. With the ocean and sunset directly ahead and top 40 music playing loudly on the speakers, the rink had a lot of energy. The ice was also perfect and didn’t wear quickly during my visit. Forty five minutes was enough for me, and the roomy Bissell Brothers Beer Yurt beckoned. The sleek yurt had a handful of tables and served Bissell, Allagash and Oxbow beers, along with wine, for $ 6. They were just installing the heaters, so it should be warm normally. Next to the yurt is a fancy warming lounge, which was definitely toasty. You can bring in your beer or food to the long bar and watch the skaters fly by. It’s great people watching. The food truck(which may reside here all winter) was PB&ME which serves deliciously unhealthy peanut butter sandwiches in addition to grilled cheese, hot dogs and other offerings. It was freezing waiting for my order though so hopefully they place a heater in front. The Rink is a surefire hit. There’s a scarcity of interesting winter activities in Portland, so skating by the ocean followed by local beer and a tasty food truck is sure to please. I’ll be back many times.
