The Portland Clinic

The Portland clinic is awesome. Each person I came in contact with made me feel like I was the most important person.
Starting at check in, I was greeted warmly and respectfully.
Then when I went upstairs to my doctor’s office, the reception person was attentive and helpful.
I was called in by the nurse 10 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. Anything more than that would have been unacceptable. But, for me, 10 minutes is cool.
I found the entire experience with the RN, the physician, and the staff who helped me afterwards were kind and considerate.
The same treatment followed when I had to go to the lab. I wish there was a way I could transfer all my Care to the Portland clinic. But this town is freaking crazy: traffic, etc. But I’m not Unilocaling Portland.

I’m writing this on behalf of my mother who has been a patient of Dr. Martin’s of Portland clinic. The positives are the she said he was friendly. As far as being a Dr. goes my mother has been feeling ill for a few years, she was referred to Dr. Martin from her primary care physician who retired. She was very hopeful that Dr. Martin might have some ideas about her constant dizziness, as well as many other symptoms including fatigue and having migraines. He was very dismissive regarding her symptoms making her feel like she was being dramatic. After much research on google, my mother found two diseases that had the same symptoms she’s been experiencing and asked him to test her for them. She had to insist, as he told her they were rare and she most likely didn’t have either Lyme Disease or Mythias Gravis. Well the test results came back positive for Mythias Gravis. He stated he was surprised when he told her the results. (Glad my mother was able to figure it out through a google search) Since her diagnosis she has seen specialists, to move forward she needs her records, it’s been a mess and taking a very long time. She has been writing him and he responded today that she is difficult. I’m furious for her, she is scared and ill and needs a Dr. to take her seriously not bring up her medical history from 40 years ago and be dismissive. I would think as a Dr. who studied for so many years to become one, he might be interested and invested and have empathy for his patients. In my mother’s case this has been lacking. He suggested she find another physician and she will, but to anyone out there, i would also find another physician.

Only issue is the paid parking. Yeah $.75/​hour isn’t «expensive», but I don’t understand why. How a medical facility can not afford to pay their 1 attendant without charging patients for parking just makes no sense.

Unfortunately, when the Doctors refer you to another department, they fail to inform you that the insurance coverage may/​may not cover the referred service provider within the Portland Clinic.
This happened on more than one occasion and dealing with the billing department and collections are not helpful and escalation process goes on deaf ears.
Not a long time happy customer :(

If I could give less than a start I would.
So, I’m disabled, I had been on their waiting list for weeks to see a rheumatologist. The day finally comes for my appointment and because I am disabled I am running behind. They call me when I’m stuck in traffic informing me that if I’m not there within 15 minutes I would have to reschedule and wait the months or weeks it would take to see a rheumatologist. (I was only 10 minutes late at that point)
I get there and after berating me on punctuality. They usher me in the back where I am met with, a short haired, beady eyed doctor. She introduces herself and starts examining me. To preface I was given a prednisone script days before to help with the pain. Because I wasnt exhibiting all the signs she wanted to see, she told me to get some blood work done and in two or three weeks I could come back and possibly get a methotrexate prescription. Now, I’ve had rheumatoid for 11 years methotrexate has never been the sole treatment option.
When I was told biologics were a last line of offense used only in severe cases, I couldn’t handle it anymore. How severe is no longer being able to shave, or wash your hair, or wipe yourself. It’s degrading and takes all quality of life away. These people didn’t care to even hear it, and when they did, they rolled their eyes like I was being melodramatic. Never go hear. It’s insanity that what is suppose to be a medical facility is actually a business built on the premise of taking your money regardless of how you are when they’re done wringing you dry.

I don’t usually write these so I’m going to keep this short and sweet.
I have nothing but nice things to say about Dr. Crouse and the team of nurses at the Portland Clinic. I’ve seen quite a few doctors since my work has had me move every week for a year. The care I’ve received here has easily been the best.

They are horrible people. Thanks to their «Drs» I was left untreated for a PCL and a meniscus tear for a year and a half. I was told that «it’s funny, you should be better by now» on numerous occasions, as in to insinuate that I was being a baby, but I couldn’t agree more, I SHOULD’VE been better… if they had done a better job. I was treated like a drug seeker but I only went to get better and they were the ones playing Russian roulette with my meds. Btw, I’m all better now. I went to broadway clinic where the general physician felt my knee for about 2 minutes and said, «there’s something really wrong here, how are you even walking?» I had to have a surgery and now have metal bars in my legs. Thank you car that ran the stop sign, and thank you doctors for not treating it and making me feel like an idiot for so darn long

I really like the people that I’ve seen here. The doctors have all been great. Helpful. Friendly. Non judgmental. (Except for that one…)Tolerant of my near pathological inability to get to most places on time. I love the central check in. Not having to carry around multiple copies of my fairly complicated medical history is nice. The clinic is also very close to me, which is nice. I really wanted to give them five stars.
HOWEVER, their billing department sucks. I have OHP, in addition to other insurance. They seem incapable of reading an insurance card. Their lab sent me the same bill numerous times, because they couldn’t spell my name right. Finally got that one straightened out, and I thought I was safe. NO SUCH LUCK. I have an bill from another appointment OVER A YEAR AGO. I thought I’d straightened that one out months ago. Apparently not, because I just got the exact same bill again.

I’ve been going to The Portland Clinic for some time now and my experiences have always been good but this week they really exceed my expectations.
I had to go in for minor surgery (hemorroidectomy, super fun stuff) and everyone there was just fantastic. They were kind, informative and so patient with me as I was super nervous and anxious about the procedure. The nurses were gentle and sweet (easiest IV insertion I’be ever had — and I’ve had a few) and always kept me informed. Becky was just lovey, as was the other nurse I was placed with, although I don’t remember her name. And my surgeon, Dr. Bieniek, was just great. He assuaged my fears and patiently answered all my questions before the surgery. And as of right now, I seem to be healing well so I think he did a fine job.
The primary care physician I’ve been seeing for a few years now is stellar, too.
So if you’re searching for a medical «home base» so to speak, give these guys a try. They have so many different docs and specialties all in one place. So convenient!

Same old same old. They get as many people in and out and don’t give any cares about their patients. Glad I am moving on…

Dr. Trafficante is awesome. He’s very friendly, funny and approachable. I like a doctor that doesn’t make me feel like crap with poor customer service and this doc is awesome in that regard. Also the clinic is also awedome! Everything was handled INCREDIBLY fast and SO friendly! I’ve been there for two visited I am very impressed. This is how healthcare should be!!!
The nurse remembered me and was very friendly too!!!

I love my Downtown Portland Clinic. My docs are Crouse and Mondragon. I give them an A+. I feel like a person there not a number. I have a serious illness but I’m healthy as a horse thanks to these folks!

It feels a bit weird to write a review about a medical facility, let alone one that I go to, but Unilocal and the world knows all about my food preferences, so you might as well all know about my medical ailments as well! Just kidding, let’s keep this thing broad.
I’ve only ever gone to the Portland clinic for general appointments (annual check-​ups required by my insurance, colds, bad scrapes). I’ve never visited their Urgent Care office. I’ve always had a pretty decent experience. This isn’t a nice medical office– some of the bathrooms are clearly very old and have not been renovated. However, the lobby area has been renovated and it looks pretty nice. For some reason, it doesn’t look completely renovated– like maybe they just renovated certain aspects (carpeting, furniture) but you can still sense some of the oldness of the lobby/​clinic.
All of the doctors I’ve met with here have been pretty good. Sometimes some doctors can run extremely late, like by an hour, which is really disruptive if you’re coming here on your lunch break. I don’t appreciate their tardiness, but I understand that these appointments are scheduled back to back, so if a patient has something unexpected going on, the doc’s got to do something about it, right?
I like that this clinic has an online aspect where you can check test results and stuff. So in general, I would recommend this place to people new to Portland, to people who do not have serious medical issues, and to people who can handle late appointments. One more thing, for some reason, the nurses and front desk people love saying your full name out loud, like «Is there a Jane Smith here?» and I don’t know about you, but I value privacy in those types of environment.

The receptionist with an English or Australian accent is fantastic! She was an absolute angel who I knew only wanted to help me. I give her 5 stars.
The nurse, Alex (Russian or Ukrainian blonde woman), was NOT at all helpful. I called at 5pm and spoke to the operator who stated that the UC was open until 6pm and I didn’t need an appointment. I got there at 5:35pm but couldn’t find my ID. My husband who works a few blocks away was on his way but the nurse, Alex, came out and stated that there are others (no one was in the lobby except the security guard) that needed to be triaged, etc., and that even though my husband was on his way with my ID, she wasn’t going to be able to see me. She asked if I wanted some advice, which I absolutely did not take and refused. Why would anyone take advice from someone who doesn’t care about them?
My issue: I had a blister that needed to be popped and cleaned because it had become infected. It shouldn’t have taken more than 10 minutes. My husband arrived at 5:52pm but it didn’t matter. I have had a blister before where this exact issue happened and it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to clean it, pop it and cut off the additional skin then write a prescription for antibiotics. Ten minutes — 15 max to fix this and have me be on my way.
Point of this: If they have a cut-​off time the operator should be fully aware of this and the nurse shouldn’t be rude. She left the poor receptionist out of the loop. I understand it is Friday, but I took a cab and wasted $ 10 to get there when I could have just waited until 6pm for my husband to get off work and take me to the Tigard location. So, now, I am out an hour of PTO, $ 10 cab, gas to Tigard, $ 20 for my co-​pay and my time.
Thanks ALEX… you should find a new occupation where getting off on-​time or early is what you long for. Nursing and helping people isn’t for you.

I don’t think anyone at this clinic really knows what they’re doing.
I came in because I had broken a glass doing dishes, and conveniently stepped on an invisible shard which promptly embedded itself in my heel. I didn’t feel comfortable enough digging it out, and neither did my husband, so off to the urgent care we went.
The first woman to see me felt that there was no glass stuck in there (that stabbing poking feeling said otherwise) and suggested x-​rays immediately, which I balked at. I don’t need an x-​ray, I need the shard dug out of my foot! So she whips out a pair of magnifying goggles and digs around for a bit, causing more pain, and bringing forth no glass.
After awhile of that business and yet another doc coming in to look at it, I was tired, hungry, and irritated of being there so I agreed to their x-​ray. I sincerely thought that something good would happen after that, but instead I was shipped off upstairs to yet ANOTHER doc (an real life podiatrist this time, nonetheless!) who had the glass extracted in less than ten seconds. *facepalm*
Good thing I have insurance because after three docs and three x-​rays, my shard of glass had turned into an $ 850.00 BILL!!!
My husband had an even worse experience there a couple of months later, but we won’t get into that right now.
I truly feel that the racket behind this clinic is to get you in and immediately have you seen my as many doctors as they possibly can so they can charge you an astronomical amount for a simple visit.
Will not be back.

Agreed about Dr. Nishikawa. Poor bedside manner and doesn’t give a flying about her patients, she passes on that lack of compassion to her staff as well. I regret every second I even thought about using the Portland Clinic.

Their website clearly states that the urgent care is open until six o’clock PM pacific standard time. However when I arrived at 5:42PM I was told that it was too late for me to be seen because the lab and urgent care were closed. Guess it’s early Friday every Friday for MD’s at Portland clinic. I’ll be taking my business and private medical insurance elsewhere :) I highly recommend others do as well.

If you’re looking for a clinic with shady business practices, then this is your clinic.
For a number of years, I was a patient of the Portland Clinic, LLC, at both this location and the one in Beaverton, off TV Hwy.
While undergoing treatment for my mild traumatic brain injury, my primary care provider recommended an elective procedure that would help me improve my sleep, which would assist the treatment program prescribed by my specialist. As expected, I filled out a bunch of paperwork, including a pre-​authorization form, so that the clinic could submit the procedure for approval /​coverage, and then I went home. After a period of time, the clinic phoned to schedule the appointment, saying that the procedure had been approved by the insurance.
I had the procedure (didn’t end up helping), and when I received the statement of benefits report from my insurance, I was informed it was not covered. The clinic then sent me a bill. I contested it because I’d only had the procedure because I’d been told it was covered. (I’ve since learned my lesson about relying on providers to do pre-​authorizations for me, and I now do them myself.)
Though my mental faculties were not what they are now, due to the brain injury, I attempted to work with the clinic to figure out what had happened and what could be done about it. The representatives in the billing department were not interested in that. Instead, I was dismissed as a patient and handed over to a collections company.
I’ve since tried to work with the collections company — another horrible organization by the name of Atlas Financial Services — and they are also unwilling to negotiate. Rather than come to some sort of compromise, I’ve been served with notice that I’m being taken to small claims court.
The moral of this story? If you’re going to use them as your doctor, make sure you get a copy of the pre-​authorization approval form for your own personal records. Don’t allow them to just show it to you, or tell you over the phone that it was approved and it’s okay to make an appointment. If/​when they lose the form, you’re the one stuck with the bill.
Please save yourself years of trouble, and find another doctor’s office.

I went here for a gynecology appointment, which I DO NOT recommend.
My doctor could tell me nothing about the pain I was experiencing. I got an invasive ultrasound that lasted over an hour and it was pretty dreadful. After that, had to pay to see the doctor to tell me my results, (after they sent me something in the mail saying I had polycistic ovarian syndrome), she told me it’s no big deal and very common, but failed to explain what it was to me or why I had pain on one side more than the other. Also told me my IUD may be slightly embedded in the uterus but they couldn’t tell after the hour of ultrasound if it is or not. Ummm that’s something I think I would want to know for sure!
Don’t go here for your lady parts!
After this I went to see another doctor at NE 22^nd and she was able to explain the condition to me in full and give me remedies.

You think that a medical facility would also be a good source for an eye exam, especially when your Portland Clinic PCP recommends that you get one at their location. No, think again. The clinic did not verify vision benefits and I just got a bill for $ 357. That’s right — $ 357 for an EYE EXAM. Hindsight is ²⁰⁄₂₀ (pun intended) and I should have trusted my gut before wasting my money. I called around the local area and most eye exams run $ 80-​$ 125, so I’m not sure what the justification is for charging more than $ 200 than others!
