Great spot!
I can’t seem to leave this store without a few samplings of green or black teas, and some salts. My home has definitely up’d it’s salt game since The Olive and Vine opened! I just wish they carried more salt bowls in different varieties.
The staff is very sweet and will help guide you to something you like.

I’m SO stoked to have access to some awesome cocktail makings right in my own neighborhood. Amarena cherries!!! I’ve been searching for these for quite some time and thought I’d have to resort to Amazon to get them. Nope. I got my own little jar and was able to (finally) support this little business. They also have some fantastic drinking vinegars made by a friend of mine. They also carry a good selection of the Pok Pok drinking vinegars. In addition to all this, they have all kinds of spices, teas and oils. Stop in and taste a few! The owners are fantastic and knowledgeable. Thanks!

The experience was wonderful. I was able to chit chat with the owner while also taking my time to soak up the store and breath in the beautiful varieties of teas, of which I picked up a couple. I was very, very happy with their salt selection. My new Sriracha salt will be yummy on all things.

The last time I remember such a heavenly smell emanating from a food specialty shop was in Vancouver, BC at Murchie’s Tea. There they also have spices and coffee. However, it’s a fairly large space. The Olive & Vine is a small store, really more of a galley type of situation, but the smell was just as remarkable as it is at Murchie’s in BC. I carried the fragrance with me the rest of this afternoon as I went about my errands, and think of it with longing right now.
For such a small space, there is a tremendous amount of offerings in terms of spices, teas, olive oils, salts, and such. I’ve always wanted a mortar and pestle, and The Olive & Vine has mortars and pestles in several sizes, some at very reasonable prices, and now I suppose I shall have to get one because of that. Such torture!
The gentleman who owns the store seems friendly and is quite knowledgeable. He did greet me this afternoon, but a couple came in with lots of questions, and I think I got lost in the fray. I slipped out and will have to come another day to see if he will converse with me or not.
But, no matter what, do stop here. It’s a real little gem of a shop. I spied it several Saturdays ago while having some gelato at Affogato. You need to let the scent of the shop get under your skin and carry you away (far better than Calgon) and then back for further visits!

If you can’t find the spice, seasoning, oil, or additive your recipe calls for here, you’re not gonna find it anywhere. And you probably don’t need it.
Mind = blown in this place. Every obscure spice I have ever seen in a recipe, and passed over the whole recipe because I didn’t want to search high and low for the obscure ingredient, is in this store. I’ll be making a beeline back next time I need something more obscure than salt & pepper.

Do not miss this lovely, cozy shop while out carousing in St. Johns! I was sent over there by recommendation of Rachal, owner at Pinwheel (
) down the street and was so glad I did. They have a fantastic selection of spices, teas, fancy salts, oils, vinegars (including shrubs), and some chi chi food products no respectable home pantry should be without.
You can taste pretty much anything you’d like, too, if you need your palate to confirm what your eyes will assume as delicious. This is a great store to get things for gifts, too, and so reasonably priced that you could easily put together a culinary treats basket with lots of products for not a ton of money. I put together a set of fancy salts (Himalyan pink, sel gris, smoked, espresso, lime) for a friend that was a big hit.
Both owners were in when I happened to be there and they could not have been nicer, with lots of suggestions but no pressure. Will definitely be back.

This is really a perfect shop. This is the shop everyone wished they owned. Amazing products and great folks. They offer a tremendous selection of bulk herbs, spices and tea. They also have probably the best specialty and favored salt selection you can find. on top of an entire wall devoted to quality oils and vinegars. The selection is impressive for such a small space. Fresh quality products that will inspire some great home meals. I replenish my herbs and spices from here to insure I have fresh product in the house. It’s nice to go in there and buy something new and figure out a good meal to try it out in. They are able to pull off a great selection without making it feel too «foodie» or unapproachable to the mid level cook. They have a great selection of premixed spice blends as well. and what I have had have been far and above the many blends offered elsewhere. And most importantly they have all the salts, oils and vinegars offered as a sample on the floor. Seriously rad. What a great and fun opportunity to try some really amazing and unique products. I was in there today with my kids… shopping for mothers day gifts… my 8 year son gets very excited about the salt samples and was asking a lot of questions. He was met with the utmost respect. and the person working couldn’t have been more friendly and genuinely excited along side him. She explained the specifics of a type of salt. and we got some. That speaks loud in my book. My son left there with a bag of specialty salt as a gift for his mother and a head full of knowledge and a greater appreciation for the good stuff. Priceless. Speaking of price… the prices are totally competitive .if not less. than other quality shops or larger high end grocers. They have multiple price points on oils and vinegars… but once you sample an item or two the price matters less and less. A nice bottle of vinegar and some fresh herbs is a great and easy way to up your kitchen game. So get in there and buy some stuff.

I’m not typically a «specialty food» store kind of gal. Part of it’s money, but part of it is simply that I know I can make something taste great — even with the $ 5 olive oil I find at grocery outlet. So I tend to shy away from these.
But I enjoyed this store! Consider my vote a 3.70 (dammit, when is Unilocal gonna allow half points?!?). The store smells wonderful and is nicely organized. A helpful and friendly woman (the owner, I assume) encouraged me to taste stuff — delicious oils and vinegars that cant help but get your cooking juices flowing and the gerbils in your brain spinning with ideas.
I suppose I feel that adding wine or something like cheeses/​fresh pasta to the inventory would be a welcome addition — but it’s a small store…

One of St. John’s best shops, if you ask me. Derek & Kim do a great job at explaining the various properties of the teas, spices, olive oils, vinegars, salts, etc. that they offer at the store. I always walk away feeling like I’ve learned something and can more thoroughly appreciate whatever it is I end up buying there.

Walked by this shop and had to stop. Small but with a well displayed and carefully chosen selection. I’d heard about all the varieties of sea salts that are now available to us here and this shop displays them front and center. Quite right too as I find them wonderful. A little goes a long way and easily lifts up ordinary meals to above average, worth the money. The teas are great too. A lot of the value is in how well the owners know their stuff
I stop here whenever I am in St Johns, and might have to make a special trip. This style of shop with a quality selection supported by the personal attention of the shopkeeper can really make a neighborhood, hope to see more like this in St Johns. It has the potential to be a great neighborhood.

This is a jewel of a shop and a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. Sample dozens of excellent oils and vinegars, as well as salts, and buy high quality herbs and spices in usable, affordable quantities. I’ve spotted a couple of the oils and vinegars in other local stores, and the prices here are very competitive.
What I love the most about this shop is that the owners know their products. So, you can walk in and say you are looking for an olive oil that has a grassy flavor, or that you want to buy an oil and a vinegar and spend no more than $x, and they will come through with perfect recommendations.

So glad to have this in St Johns! The owners are so nice and I love their cute little shop. I love coming here for flavored salts.
I do hope they increase their selections, including more herbs, jars, oils, and homecraft/​herbalism supplies.

Was SO happy to find this little shop! Have been raving to everyone I know and regularly take friends to check it out. Wonderful selection of loose teas both classic and adventurous, as well as special house blends; flavored oils and vinegars (try the fig balsamic!) and seriously reasonably priced spices and a great selection of finishing salts (recommend the ginger flavored).

This is a splendid addition to downtown St. Johns. The owner is wonderful, friendly, and full of knowledge.
It isn’t a place that you would need to shop at often, their current stock is limited to vinegar, oil, spices and tea. But for those special little additions to your kitchen, it is the perfect destination. Also, they are slowly adding some additional tidbits such as pickled goodies and soon to be added; pastas.
Also — pretty much everything is available to taste!

This store is exactly why I love to shop local. The owners are passionate and extraordinarily knowledgeable on their inventory. I learn so much interesting stuff every time I walk in — not to mention out-​fitting my kitchen with all sorts of new ingredients (like salt hand-​harvested from Seaside, OR!). Plus everything is ridiculously affordable. The Olive & Vine is a huge slice of awesome in St Johns.

Stopped by the other day to check the store out and all I can say is, YES! They have all my favorite items. Fresh loose leaf tea that you buy by the ounce, real salt in so many wonderful varieties, olive oils and vinegars that I have never heard of and can’t wait to try and much more The only thing this place is missing is fresh local cheese and bread — however if they had that they would have to start charging me rent as I don’t think I would ever leave!

I was pleasantly surprised to find Olive and Vine in St. Johns. I’m glad to see stores like this coming to the St. Johns downtown area. The selection of salt and olive oil was very impressive. They definitely have a new local customer, keep up the good work!

Very small store with a unique selection of olive oils, vinegars, teas and I think salt. We passed this place on a bike ride and so I went in here specifically for some garlic infused olive oil. They did indeed have a garlic infused oil, but only one choice. I went with the option and it didn’t hurt the pocketbook too much ($ 14). This California garlic olive oil is the shit. I use this stuff to sauté our veggies and dip our breads and say «hold up, hey, save the garlic for another day» sooooo damn good.
