I have been coming here for years. More so when I lived in the area. I love the staff here. Always fun and attentive. They have really good food as well. Not too pricy for food or drinks. They have an amazing covered patio! Video lotto that likes to pay if you play! I enjoy this place very much.

This place is a pretty classy dive bar. Pros: great bartenders, especially Tim, and better than average bar food, especially the home made soups. Cons: no rye whiskeys. They have lots of tvs so it’s a great place to catch games.

Late night visit. Friendly bartender, good beer suggestion, $ 1 jello shots, and a decent limited fried food or pizza menu. Plenty of sports on TV, local crowd, lots of tall seats and video lottery. I can’t complain and will most likely stop in again.

The food is not great, in fact I wouldn’t really suggest eating there, but the drinks are reasonably priced and made well, I never feel gipped. They have a lot of TVs and are always happy to let you watch what you want. Every staff member and bartender I have met there has been nice and accommodating. If you are looking for a place to watch a game and have a few drinks this place is a good choice.

I’m not sure what finally got me into the Old Barn, but I’ve been driving past it for a decade(or 2) and always wondered about it. The good reviews on Unilocal mixed with poor reviews must be an indication of BAD night vs GOOD night. We hit this place on a BAD night, obviously. However, it was so bad, we won’t ever return. The exterior and interior are a bit rough around the edges. It needs updating, badly. The TVs are plentiful and you could do fine with a brew and watching a game, but that’s where I’d leave it. If the food and service had been decent, it would be a great dive bar, which we love! Food/Drinks/Service: Good drinks, they do not skimp on the pours, but they weren’t overly done either. On to the food: I’ll start with the notable fact that they make their own soup, which was pretty good, a bit salty, but not bad. That was the only nice surprise and reason for the single star. Typical bar food is good-decent and happy hour prices are good. **But do not, what ever you do, DONOTORDER non-bar food here, like full meals such as steaks, prime rib, fish, etc. The steaks are tough, ‘leather which has seen the ice age tough’, flavorless and dry. They offer baked potato, and both ours were so undercooked, it was as if it was pulled straight from the ground, warmed by the sun and opened with a Samurai sword topped with some orange tasteless cheese. We had them sent back to be re-cooked. They were replaced(15mins later AFTER our meals were mostly choked down) with slightly softer potatoes, but still way undercooked. We were told the cook is new as the excuse for the poor quality. However, I know young children can cook a baked potato. Primary rule: when it’s soft, it means it’s done. Test it before you send it out. Service was pathetic, frankly. We had to ask for silverware, the accompaniments to the meal on more than 1 occasion. The next day I realized I never received the onion rings which were supposed to be with the steak that I paid for. The server’s job is to make sure what is ordered is on the plate, such as sauces, sides, arrives on the table. She was so spaced out, we had to ask for everything, EVERYTHING. She needs to consider a career change. Service industry is not her bag. She was a master at making excuses as to why things were sub par when she knew were were unsatisfied, rather than try to make things right. ZERO initiative. We paid for all our food, even the items(i.e. onion rings) which never came plus a 15+% tip against our better judgement, as 0% was deserved. We love dive bars and a lot of them have great food, but the Old Barn is the bottom of the barrel. I wish I had just kept driving by for the next decade or 2!

This is a nice mellow spot with the much appreciated Portland dive bar feel. The Old Barn offers some very decent burgers and other general bar food options.

The Old Barn has some of the best chowder in town, and the last Friday of every month is oyster stew day, which is fantastic. Truly great oyster stew, in classic British cream and butter style with something I just can’t nail down. Best stew this side of the Fish Peddler in Bay City, although lighter on the oysters than those guys, has a better overall flavor. Those last Friday’s they also have fried razor clams. They’re fine, not special, and pretty heavily breaded, but the side order size goes well with a bowl of that great stew or chowder. I’ve ordered nothing else.

This place is perfect for hanging out and watching games. Go Ducks! The bartender/server lets you do your thing and is just attentive enough! The food is tasty and the atmosphere is young enough to be FUN!

BEST bar in town! GREAT food! It’s hard to pick one favorite items on the menu because they are all better than you would imagine. There is also daily happy hour. The hummus, pizza and burger and fries are my favorites from that. Tons of TV’s to watch sports. All the patrons are beyond friendly. You automatically feel welcomed right when you walk through the door. The service is always top notch.

The most uninviting bar I’ve ever been to! A couple of friends and I stopped in for trivia tonight and were told at the bar to have a seat if we’d like to order. After sitting for 10 minutes we decided to go back to the bar and order. Bartender reluctantly took our order(there was a total of 5 people in there, not busy). The server sweetly asked if we needed anything else as she plopped our drinks on the table. We decided to pass on trivia tonight and to never come back.

Lively atmosphere, though when I went(Sunday night) service seemed a little sluggish. I do plan to return because it seems like a fun place and I will update my review accordingly.

The Old Barn is about what you would expect with a few possible surprises. I didn’t expect it to function as such a great sports bar! It’s the perfect spot to watch a game as they have TVs facing every seat in the house. I did expect some sort of bar special but was pleased to find it entailed $ 2 PBRs during games, food specials during NFL, Beaver games and even games of that other school in Eugene as well as free popcorn during same. It looks like they have a pretty decent Superbowl party planned too. As for other amenities, I expected video lotto machines and such, but I wasn’t expecting scratch-its! I was expecting a trivia night(Wednesdays), but I wasn’t expecting this bar to offer $ 1 jello shots! Sweet! I expected a typical bar food menu but I was surprised to see bar tacos! I am rather fond of bar tacos. I expected based on their location that they would be easily accessible for public transit, but was pleased to find they are right next to the transit center! If I was a smoker, I would expect to stand outside in the rain and cold while smoking, but they do have a covered area for that. I was also expecting and kind of hoping for a surly bartender, but actually she was quite nice. Sadly my real surprise came in the form of the tap list. It was more like a beer list from five years ago. I am unaccustomed to my main choices being Mirror Pond and Widmer Hef these days, so that was disappointing but at least I can console myself with those bar tacos…

I’ve been searching around the SW Multnomah area for a good local bar. I’ve had some less than stellar experiences at other bars near the Village so it was time to listen to Unilocal and check out The Old Barn. My first experience was on a Saturday for some college football. As far as sports bars go, The Old Barn has a great variety of TVs and I enjoyed the atmosphere. They have some good happy hour bar food options for $ 3.95 and I was stoked that their happy hour went to 6:30pm with a good selection of micro brews and cheap PBR. What brought me back was their Tuesday prime rib special. It didn’t disappoint. $ 9.95 gets you soup or salad, a delicious piece of prime rib and choice of potato with garlic toast. I would have liked some sort of vegetable with my meal besides the small salad, but overall I’ve enjoyed what I’ve eaten at The Old Barn. The service there has been really top notch and friendly. I felt very welcomed even through it was my first time(s) hanging out there. That above anything else will bring me back for another visit.

a nice pub with a lot locals nice draft beer variety. sometimes waitstaff will come around and tempt you with a jello shot now and again. i think their food is pretty good and reliable for this type of bar. good breakfasts, by the way. I guess they have pizza now. haven’t had it yet — -but heard favorable comments on it. great view of TVs all around. they also offer fun entertainment like live triva and karaōke.

Possibly my favorite watering hole in Southwest. It’s really just your average, straight-up standard neighborhood bar. It’s not trying to be a british pub or anything else like that. It’s not too dive-y and not too much of a sports-bar… though there ARE about 96 TVs in the place. The staff is pretty awesome. The food, depending on what you order, is either about on par with standard bar-food or surprisingly good. We’ve been quite a few times since coming to the area and every time has been fun.

We came here looking for a bar to watch the World Series Game 4(editorial: Aww yeah Giants!) and this place ended up being a ton of fun. We weren’t expecting to show up on a trivia night, and the crowd that was there for it were really cool. No jerks, no nitpicking, just laid back high-fiving, a little woo-ing, and so on. The food was… bar food, about what you’d expect, but their happy hour prices definitely kept me from having too much beef about it. We had burgers(meh) and chicken fingers(yum!) and plenty of fries to soak up our cocktails. There were tvs in every direction you could swivel your head, and the server we had was nice and decently attentive, despite the fact that this place was pretty hopping for a Sunday night(I thought). The drinks were priced well and not weak at all. This is not swanky by any means, but it’s not a dive, or an old barn for that matter, either. Prices are good, drinks are good, and people are nice. Also, my condolences to what I believe was the only Tigers fan in Portland.

When asked how I liked going to The Old Barn my response was«It was okay», which is to say it wasn’t bad. It also translates to I won’t be suggesting that we go there again, but if someone asks me to meet them there I won’t decline. The Server was most excellent, very attentive and nice. The food menu is actually pretty good for a bar, the prices are about average. They have a HH food menu that looked like a good deal. Drinks are what you’d expect, average, not bad, not amazing. The atmosphere is «local hangout.» Most of the seating is bar stool height. They have Free Wifi and a few TVs. I went for Wednesday Night Trivia — The«TJ» is great. I ordered a Grilled Chicken Salad($ 7.95) and my friends ordered a Chef Salad($ 7.95)and 2 Pancakes($ 5). The Salads were okay, iceberg lettuce with generous toppings, the chicken was prepared well. The Pancakes smelled delicious.

How many times have you driven by this place and wondered what it was like inside? Me? At least 250 times. Finally! I went inside with 2 friends to see what it was like. It was a dive bar without the greasy old men undressing you with their eyes. It was quite a young crowd actually. ++ It was crowded because of trivia night but still offered up a place to sit. The wait staff was awesome. For as busy as it was, the cocktail waitress was on it! A couple of times the bartender himself came over to ask us if we needed anything else and was quite the character too. The drinks were stiff-ish, nice menu selection but chose the mini corn dogs– fried to perfection! My friend had a club sandwich with fries and after stealing a bite. that was good too! I will return, possibly even this afternoon!

Since I moved in across the street, the OB — for better or for worse — has become like my own personal rec room/man cave(although my girlfriend enjoys it quite a bit too). It’s a great neighborhood(some might say dive) bar, though I’d say it takes a visit or two or three to really start to appreciate it and get to know the staff. It’s actually a sneaky good sports bar with full DirecTV NFL package and and almost every game you’d want to watch. There’s enough TVs for everyone to see what they want(even if they’re not all the absolute best picture quality). A vocal group of Pittsburg Steelers fans are usually in the house on Sundays, but I’ve never had a problem getting my team’s game on. I think the food is pretty solid and relatively inexpensive. Again, this is a neighborhood joint that’s not going to attract clientele from all over Portland because of its gastropub reputation, but as far as solid, fill ya up, bar food goes I’m always verys satisfied. They also seem to be pretty confident in their seafood menu as well and do a razor clam special on the last Friday of each month(which I keep missing!). The mixed drinks are not weak, there’s jello shots if you feel like steppin’ it up a notch, and a solid selection of beers on tap. I’ll just say that if you want to do what most people come to blue collar neighborhood bars to do, you’ll enjoy yourself at the OB. I don’t smoke, but most smokers seem to like their covered, heated smoking patio, which I think has a little TV on it as well. Oh and the karaōke nights(Saturday primarily) can get pretty fun the few times I’ve stuck around that long. Great people watching all in all too! The only thing you’ll wanna watch out for is the parking lot in the back, which takes a little care when you exit as it’s a little cramped. Since I’m usually on foot, I rarely have to worry about that, but you can always park next door at the Barbur Transit Center if you want an easier way out.
