The Home Depot

Shopped here for 15+ years. We have a contractors account with HD. The final straw transpired over the past two months. We own a small rental property in Portland. We ordered a new washer/​dryer in November 2015. A few weeks later as tenants moved in we tried it out and it didn’t work. We ordered a new unit only to be told that because we waited to tell them about the defect that we’d be charged a significant restocking fee to replace the unit. We moved forward anyway trusting that we would finally get a working unit. The next unit shows up and again — it does work. Mind you — every time we have the HD crew install the unit to ensure its done correctly.
Now we’re onto our 3^rd unit. It arrives a few days ago. Installed by HD and again — it does work. That’s 3 W/​D units delivered and all 3 don’t work.
And … To make matters worse HD makes you do this via their horribly run website system. You can not go into the store and pick up this particular WD unit. This has been a disaster in customer service — with a store manager who could care less, out of country CSR’s on the telephone who could care less. PLEASE IF SOMEONE FROM Home Deport ACTUALLY cares about about this kind of thing please private message me to see how you can fix this mess.

I am a licensed contractor and was planning on renting a boom lift from Home Depot for a project yesterday. I called ahead and asked what the towing requirements were for the boom and them told me that I would need a 2 inch ball and a 3,500 pound towing capacity. I also looked on the Home Depot’s website and saw that the boom lift weighed 3,400 pounds. I showed up with my SUV that has a tow package including a 2 inch ball and 3,500 pound towing capacity, but they said they wouldn’t let me tow it because it wasn’t a «full sized truck.» I showed them that I had a 3,500 pound towing capacity, but they still wouldn’t let me tow the thing. I explained that their own website said that it weighed 3,400 pounds. They said that was «corporate» and that they couldn’t control what was on the website.
I left and then went to Interstate Rentals where I found a better boom lift for less money delivered to my job site. It’s a good reminder to buy local and to avoid Home Depot as a corporate entity that doesn’t even know and apparently can’t control what’s on its own website. Rent your equipment from Interstate Rentals, Parkrose Hardware, or any other local company that actually knows what equipment they have so that you aren’t left out in the cold at the last minute by Home Depot.

They always play the most crappy country music at this location. Trying to find stuff in a hardware store is annoying enough as it is.

was trying to review a coiled hose on their website… apparently there is no submit button so, it must be a secret as to how to post a review .
Called the help number listed 1−800−430−3376 and it basically says you can talk to a human but gives incorrect options to do so. Called the Troutdale store and they were no help. They claim they have no knowledge as to what goes on, on the website somewhat are they there for ?
And the review was for the coiled hoses… that tangle way too easily, restrict flow of water and storage is a joke.

I’ve had nothing but fantastic experiences here! From Randy in Tool Rental to Taylor in lumber, and even the woman at self-​checkout (didn’t catch her name). Employees so far have been willing to help walk me through a project, pick the proper tools, and even wander around the store with me to find things I need. I have been so impressed with this location that I’ll go out of my way to get there!

This is a great store. The staff is always helpful and it’s not as busy as some of the other locations.

I was very displeased the last time I was at Home Depot. I had to return a door knob in its packaging and I did not have my receipt. This happens to me occasionally as we shop at Home Depot all the time for our construction company. Sometimes we need to exchange something and the receipt isn’t readily available and I don’t have the card it was purchased on since it was a certain company card. At the register the employee told me that I was DECLINED to return or exchange the door knob and actually on probation for 90 days. She would not talk with me any further or let me talk with anyone in the store. Not only had I been waiting in line for 30 minutes while she RANG up customers in the return line, but I had wasted my time. So, embarrassed and upset I called the phone number on the receipt. The phone number went to a 3^rd party answering service and the gentleman that did not care the slightest bit about my feelings. He told me that I could HAND WRITE a letter asking to be removed from the list and I could be removed in approximately 30 days. However, if I then returned something without a receipt and «was randomly selected to be added to this probation list» again I would have my right to return revoked. I feel this is absolutely absurd. Customers return items all of the time with or without receipts at Home Depot and not once has this policy change been mentioned. He informed me that approximately 90% of non-​receipt returns are being handled in this way since the early 2014…(on a lottery system I suppose). I asked why I didn’t know about it and he stated that the FULL return policy is stated on Home Depot’s website and that by shopping in a Home Depot I am agreeing to the terms on the website. I was very frustrated at the passive way he was taking my grievance to which he informed me that he doesn’t work for Home Depot.
So Home Depot, here is where I need your help. My understanding is that my dollar and every dollar spent in Home Depot pays to keep your doors open and it even pays that arrogant customer service rep to tell me, «There’s nothing you can do».
My grievance is, how is a customer expected to be held to an agreement that they are unaware of? I checked one of our thousands of Home Depot receipts to see exactly what it states about returns and it directs customers to the return policy sign. I cannot recall noticing a sign in the store or ever having it referenced while I was purchasing or returning anything. The last time I returned an item to Home Depot without a receipt was April of 2015. Beyond that I have had receipts. I have employees that exchange supplies several times a week without receipts because they are in the middle of a job and don’t have time to track it down and no probation for them yet. Home Depot has always been a great place to shop and I have never had any experience like this before. I do not belong on a return probation list and I know that many other people and businesses would feel the same way if in my shoes. As a consumer, I believe that your lottery probation system is a great way to thin out your customer base. Whoever is responsible for this policy did not think of the impact it would have on customers.
Home Depot let me down and I hope someone at your organization can make this right.

They need to get rid of self checkout and hire another checker or two. Here at 9pm and have waited in line for over 10 minutes due to being short staffed. I don’t want to ring crap up by myself.

This was a much better experience than I had at Sears outlet. The selection on some items were better than others. They only had 5 displays of gas ranges.
It was nice to be greeted by 2 employees. But it would have been nice to be checked upon and to see if I had any questions. You can definitely tell you are in a big box store. I prefer the atmosphere and experience of a smaller independent store.
Although delivery is free, you still need to purchase hoses and cords. I’m glad I asked because this info would’ve been a shock to me had I purchased something and not known that they weren’t included in price. Glad I’m just comparing prices today– unless of course I find a deal I can’t pass up!
I liked the selection of washer and dryers, but again you don’t get a discount buying a set as opposed to one or the other! It’s the full price of each.
I will, however stick with Home Depot for my home and garden projects!

Multiple workers around did not ask me if I needed help, so I assumed they were all busy. Then a Caucasian man walks by me and I immediately hear «can I help you find anything, sir?»
Finally I went to a customer service desk where a girl was too busy to look up from her paint can that she was scanning so I waited patiently. «Do you have a question?» she asked uncomfortably. They did not have the commercial rubber mat I was searching for from off their website. Then after telling me «maybe it’s over there» she went back to her paint can. I had to ask her to check other stores for me as I had already checked that area for it but it was obvious she preferred to help me as little as possible.
Very disappointed at this place. Maybe I’m just mistaken that Home Depot was a friendly environment to walk into and expect at least one of the seven people I came across while looking for something to ask if I needed help.

This same day I went to another location and did find what I was looking for despite the paint girl at this location claiming it was an online only item.

If you are reading this review to get a jist of the Home Depot experience I would say the basic take home message is Big Box Store. You aren’t going to get the mom and pop small hardware help that you may prefer but the selection and prices are pretty hard to beat. I like the range of product brands. They have some top brands that are reasonably priced but you can also spend less money and get quality products that don’t break the bank.
The staff here is very friendly but one of the frustrations I often have is finding someone in each department. Ordering appliances in the store can be very slow but if you aren’t in a rush you can do it there. I like to go there and see what I need and order it from home if it is larger items like appliances. The smaller items are easy to just grab and go.
They do offer some help with remodel projects but it is pretty minimal. I know they sometimes have deals on kitchen cabinet re-​facing. They offer some references to local companies for help with installations. I do like this feature if you need a little extra help once you get the products home.

There is a lot one can say about Home Depot I mean it’s a huge warehouse home supply store that usually has a little bit of everything you could possibly imagine and then an aisle or two more.
On this particular trip we were looking to do some repairs on some broken PVC plumbing. We asked for some specifics party that would harden and tape that would harden to use on plumbing and unfortunately no one seemed to be accurate with where we would find these.
I eventually ended up exploring on my own and had them in hand although I will say that the repair tape is a little more expensive here than I’ve seen it at a one-​stop shopping retailer and only one option at Home Depot or there are multiples that said one stop shopping.
Home Depot is my first choice anytime I need something for the home so thumbs up.

Strangely, after years of Home Depot being only a place I’d go out of desperation and preferring Lowe’s, the tables have completely turned. The expertise and service of the folks I’ve talked with at Home Depot is now way awesomer (and Lowe’s now sucks!), plus they now offer several options of Zero-​VOC paint with prices that way beat out the overpriced stuff at Rodda. Also super pleased to know I could take another brand of paint’s color code (that they don’t carry) and they looked it up and matched it with their own brand of Zero-​VOC paint, yay!
it’s not the awesome local hardware store vibe but it is definitely a go-​to place for us now. Kudos for whatever they’ve done to hire much better staff!

Usually I go to Hayden Island b/​c it’s a bit closer to home. We needed to rent a floor sander and the Airport location is (apparently) the only HD that still has rentals. The staff in the Rental department were awesome — so very very helfpul and recommended the right sander for our expertise, then highlighted some other rentals we’ll need this summer for yard work.

Had a good experience here. Typical Home Depot, but maybe a little bit cleaner! Staff was very helpful. Not much else to be said… If you need home stuff, you can’t go wrong.

This is just what you would expect from a Home Depot.
I found everything I needed with the assitance of a friendly and helpful staff.

The old skinny guy with grey hair in paint is blind. He can’t match paint to save his life. Plus he’s rude about it when you tell him he’s wrong. Get a clue Home Depot. Replace this moron

Terrible customer service. Had an employee in the paint section working right around us, never asked if we needed help. When we asked him a question he gave us a one word answer and walked away. I’ve had terrible customer service here before. We left and are going to Sherwin Williams where I’ve had someone spend lots of time helping me and giving me advice. It will be worth the drive. I’m avoiding all future purchases here due to the multiple customer service FAILS. I guess it’s my own fault for being naïve enough to think you can get any help at a Home Depot.

I really wish Home De Pot paid their people a little more and had people that knew more than just where things are located on the shelf. I had horrible experiences in the window treatment area, other than that it is nice to have this place close to home. However, When i go there and have a question it seems like you will either find someone looking at you with a blank stare or someone that wings it and tells you something that they «think» is correct. Specialists would be nice. People that know just a little about a lot don’t cut it.
