The Fish & Bone

This store is the pinnacle of dog stores in Portland. All the stuff they sell are high quality and perfect for my dog. He is eager to destroy any toy, bone, or chew we’ve gotten him from there. They usually last a long time too –usually. The clothes are perfect for keeping him warm and stylish in the winter. I’m always eager to go back to pick him up something new. Love the convenient location but hate the hassle of parking in the old port, just have to go at off times!

This is a GREAT place. Our office — where our three dogs were welcome — was right around the corner from this super store. We got helpful advice on training halters — well-​fitting collars — products for wellbeing. Our dogs were always welcome and fussed over. We bought many, many treats and toys here. Granted, some of the toys had a short life — we have a cattle dog who thinks the goldens’ toys are dire threats to the household! But that’s what happens when you have dogs! We try to find toys that will NOT interest the cattle dog, but which the goldens will love. Snakes, because they are long and have multiple squeaks, remain viable until they become very short! Rope toys last ages. And kings, with peanut butter, are a hit with everyone. We LOVE this store. It’s one of the places we miss most now that our business has moved from Portland to Brunswick after 25 years. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

When I first learned of this store, I thought due to its location it was just a tourist trap. I was wrong. Though it is small and their food selection is limited, they can pretty much order anything you need (order by Saturday morning and it will be in by Tuesday). The staff (esp. Tristan and Stephanie?) are incredibly knowledgable about food.
My 10-​year-​old dog has suffered from allergies his whole life and has immunotherapy regularly. I was frustrated when he needed another round of steroids because of an abdominal rash. Even though I was told he has no food allergies (his allergies are environmental), I called Fish & Bone to talk about food options. After speaking to (I think it was Stephanie) about proteins, gluten, limited ingredients, potatoes, etc., together we chose a new food to order and try. After a 2 week ween and another 2 weeks on this new food … I have taken my dog off the steroids, discontinued his daily antihistamine, and his rash is GONE.
Also, they offer discounts/​rewards for frequent customers which is so much appreciated.
Thank you Fish and Bone. You really love what you do and you’re an asset to Portland.

We are here for the summer staying on peaks island– they have a dog washing station w two sinks– air dryer– tons of shampoos and conditioners– tons of towels–
Our dog was wicked dirty from swimming and beach and we got him all gussied up again!

The Fish & Bone is a nice little pet store right in the heart of the city. It’s across the street from the harbor. They have just about everything you need for your pet. Include Kong products and Blue Buffalo! A dog is not a dog unless it has a Kong in its life, trust me I know! Yogi & Benji play more with there Kong toys then they do with me.
The staff was very helpful and courteous for us. We honestly just walked in because we were thinking of our dogs which were back home since we were on vacation. Yogi loves playing with chew rags and Benji pretty much chews on anything that squeaks. So in memory of our dogs and our trip to Maine from Miami. We got Yogi and lobster rag and Benji a squeaky lobster.

While I did like coming up to your store for treats for my dog, as of yesterday you lost my business. After coming up from Portsmouth NH, I arrived in Portland at around 4;45 on a Sunday. I found a parking spot (not easy) and walked down to your shop at 5. door locked. My phone said 5:00 on the spot. Web says you close on Sunday at 6;00, not 5. NOT COOL.I looked in and saw 4 – 5 customers inside mingling around. As I rattled the door a few times the clerk at the register finally looked over and shot me a dirty look like how DARE I try to get in, after all it was now 5:01 and I knew exactly what I wanted. Even the customers shot me a ‘too bad your loss’ look, WTF! Really? You couldn’t be bothered? NEVER again, your customer service sucks Fetch, Ill take my business elsewhere and make it a point to tell as many people as possible.

Nice little pet store that seems to be having an identity crisis. Sign says Fetch, FB page says Fetch, Unilocal page says Fetch, all of the bags, etc you get inside say Fish and Bone.
Despite that, it’s a solid pet store. It’s small, but has a lot packed in. For the first time in my life I witnessed a «tasting» at a pet store. Yep, they were giving out tastes of Weruva to any dogs that came in. They also offered some to my husband.
There is a decent selection for cats, which isn’t always the case. My cat has allergies and I am always in search of different foods to try. While none of the cat food they carried would work for her, there were plenty of premium options for a cat with a reasonable diet.
The staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a stop if you are a pet owner.

This space is compact and has multiple names right now… Fetch as most of us know it, Fish and Bone as they recently changed it.
The space is packed with all sorts of collars, leashes, beds, bowls, treats, food and everything a great pet parent can buy to spoil thier furry buddies.
The staff is friendly and knowledgeable so ask questions! Also, they have a reward program so get the card too.

hey CAT owners-​you can shop here too! I have to buy a certain brand cat food and always drove to an out of the way store to buy it. Was horrified when I ran out on a sunday. Popped in here and was helped promptly, out the door in 5 minutes. Love how knowledgeable the staff was. No idea if they have time to be helpful in the summer with all the tourists, but highly recommend. Then again I am a cat owner so I don’t need to be coddled. haha!

The last time we waltzed into Fetch the customer service was deplorable. We own 4 Olde English Bulldogges. They have a toy box bigger then most children. I buy buy buy for my dogs. I have enough used collars to start a used dog collar shop. I honestly could buy them new collars once a month. They get new Halloween & Christmas outfits every year. We never once even had anyone look at us much less say hello. With that being said I hate being followed around and asked every second if anyone can help me. However I do like to be acknowledge. We sadly were not the only people in Fetch that felt the same way. Unless I see a cute bulldog in the store in the future I will not be back :(and that bums me out. I enjoy bringing business to local business.

aka Fish & Bone Junior needed kitting up for his Maine home so did that here on the way to Harpswell. bowls, towels, toys and a jacket. forgot to pack him lunch so had a sampling (lots) of the many treats on offer, which had to be his fave meal of all time.

THE place to check out if you have a furry friend with you! great selection of toys and treats! Your pup might even make a friend or two while you’re browsing. very cute place!

I really like the store

Was in Portland, ME recently and ran a quick errand for a friend (whom I was visiting). He had suggested Fetch as the place to pick up some food for his pet who has a special diet. I decided to make it a fun outing, and took a short walk through the city to Commercial Street to this store.
The location is beyond cute, is easy to find, the prices are reasonble, and the staff is incredibly friendly. The best part was the help offered by one of the staff in getting directions to the nearest bookstore. (I found it without a blip due to that person’s help).
For Portland folks, I’m jealous, you’ve got such a jem of a pet store.

What could possibly top being able to bring your completely adorable cat with you on a weekend getaway to Portland staying at the Portland Harbor Hotel? (you can imagine the strange looks in an elevator with a carrier, luggage and a litter box for a 2-​night stay haha) Fetch, that’s what!
We found so many cute toys and snacks for our ‘fuzzy child’ here, and I can’t wait to go back to stock up on more goodies. I just love small businesses that know how to do it right, and Fetch is one of them. They have so many unique and really nice pet toys, accessories and food. Definitely a big breath of fresh air compared to the pet megamarts out there (and that sea air wafting from across the street doesn’t hurt either) ;)
I will be back… actually, I just might be back tomorrow when we head up for another weekend away (sans cat this time. We gotta bring back some souvenirs for her! haha)

Fun but way too expensive.

I don’t have a pet but if I had one I would probably shop at Fetch. I walked the store with my friend who has a Shiba-​Inu and she very excited about some of the collars she found in there. So excited it got ME excited. Also as you walk around town you will see that a majority of the stores have Fetch water dishes outside. Local gem.

From the outside, I expected a high-​end store similar to Best in Show in San Francisco, but the inside was kind of crowded and disheveled.
Nonetheless, we got a cute collar for the doggie and a bright green foraging toy for the kitties.

Cute store that’s big enough to move around in… This is totally the place to stop when you’re headed out of Portland and know your Corgis are at home PISSED that you left them. Prices are about the same as any high-​end dog store. I like that you can buy the Good Dog newsletter at the counter and they have back issues of Bark magazine for sale for $ 1 or a bundle of 3 for $ 2.

Cool store. Better than most pet stores you find. its kinda like the REI or EMS of pet stores. I’d go back! Charlie loved checkin out all the toys and stuff. Good selection of «cool» dog toys. Help was very kind, as well. Oh, also — I like their logo alot.
Their website is nice — the owner has a blog, announcing events and other dog stuff.
