The Colour Authority

My only regret is that I didn’t try Color Authority sooner! Very nice and knowledgeable ladies. They show real passion for hair. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for in a salon/​spa.

I had a horrible highlight service here. After two visits and not a small price tag, my hair looks like a home dye job gone terribly wrong. With the first visit, I spent 3.5 hours in the chair and while it was drying it was clear to myself and the stylist that my root line was still glaringly obvious. As if nothing had been done. The owner sited my previous highlight job for brassiness causing the problem. However it wasn’t the slight brassiness that bothered me, it was the fact that my roots were still brown. Another appointment was made to return (which was rescheduled twice by the salon) for a fix. This time more bleach was applied as well as a heat dryer. When I asked if a toner was needed this visit I was told no. Toners blend the highlights into much more natural shades and I always get them. After another three hours at the salon my hair is over processed and too-​bright blonde with a solid half inch of brown root still at my hairline. With a little home research I discovered that the additive she sold me to mix with the bleach which acts as a strengthener, makes processing time longer for highlights. This explains why the first visit resulted in no change to my roots. And why she felt the need to over fry it the second time. Proper knowledge of products is helpful. I think there is a vast difference in skill level of the stylists here and perhaps management should monitor that more closely. Unless you have a specific stylist who comes highly recommended, I absolutely would not recommend taking a chance at this salon. Now I have to figure out how to fix my hair.

Where to start? This place is fantastic! I wanted to get my hair colored and had found this place based on reviews and proximity to where I live. A Colour Authority had wonderful reviews, something that eased my anxiety as someone who had never did a drastic hair change!
The first time I got my hair colored, it was done by SeaAnn and she was wonderful! Not only was she so personable and friendly, she did an excellent job with my hair! :)
I went in recently to get it touched up and was this time seen by Fern. Fern was awesome as well and did a great job!

The Colour Authority and Alex Greco have been my hair salvation for many years. I first met Alex after seeing three different specialists who were trying to correct a burn-​out from a bad blond color job that went from bad to worse. Alex helped me recover while keeping my big head of curly hair intact. (Others told me to cut if all off!)
I am bi-​coastal and have seen many professional colorists over the years. I have paid twice and even three times as much when I am in S. Florida for the same type of job (highlights/​lowlights with cut and styling) only to be disappointed. In fact, the amount of times that I have had to return to Portland to get my color «corrected» by Alex after these terrible hair appointments is just embarrassing. The Colour Authority is just that — a drama-​free, educated, friendly staff who go out of their way to make sure you are happy and well taken care of and they also use Goldwell color care line.
Alex is amazing and I highly recommend her. She has a passion for what she does and the staff love her. I have overheard the manager privately telling her not only how great her work is, but how organized and business savvy she is. While she’s young, she has corrected the work of much older, seasoned «specialists» who have awards at their stations or on their websites. Her talent is commendable. I hate leaving Portland knowing that I won’t be in Alex’s hands!
If you are shopping around and reading mixed reviews about different salons and can’t decide who to trust, stop now. Call The Colour Authority and ask for Alex Greco!

Excellent! I saw Fern Walker today for foil highlights and a trim, she was friendly and styled my hair perfectly. The salon is clean and well organized (entering the parking lot is kind of hard). My experience was wonderful and when I went to pay, Fern informed me that cuts are complimentary the first time!

I recently had my hair cut and colored and I have really long hair. I absolutely love it! I just referred my Mom and she had her hair done a couple of days ago and LOVES her hair! I don’t feel like either of us are easily impressed when it comes to getting our hair done. But, I have been to SeAnn Torrence a couple of times now and love the way she does my hair. She’s very sweet. Takes her time. Does not rush. Listens to what I’m desiring in my cut/​style. She doesn’t take a ton off my ends when I ask her not to. SeAnn is a fantastic stylist! If your checking out Color Authority I recommend requesting her. I seriously adore her and will with out a doubt will be back soon to see her!

I got a groupon to see Fern here yesterday. I was excited to try this place out because usually I drive a fair ways to see someone else in NoPo. She’s great, and I love her, but this place is so much closer to me. I was looking forward to knowing if I could ditch the drive and swap it for a hop skip and a jump!
Fern was pretty awesome, especially as I came in with, as my friend called it, my Hair-​topus (a giant strangling squid of a hair mess). I had the great idea that I was you know, going to experiment and let it grow out. For the funsies. Unfortunately, I’m lazy/​not hair-​educated and I’d been pretty much limited to putting my giant mass of hair into 3 «styles» (throwing it into a very uh. robust. ponytail. twisting it into a very «energetic» braid, and stuffing it into a giant claw). None of those are actually styles, sadly.
As my hair-​topus was now beginning to rule me rather than the other way around, I decided it was time to end our relationship. Fern was really nice about it and didn’t complain that I had come in with this giant hair wreck for her to fix. Instead, she put an efficient end to it, and beyond that, made me look p. darn good with my new layered short hair! I know so because the next day, when I went to do my weekly volunteering, all the people who knew me commented on my shorn locks with statements like, «Looking sharp!» Confirmation!
This will definitely be my new stop for hair styling. I really recommend it, especially if you live in this area and may have been, like me, driving kind of far out. Colour Authority gave comparable service to the salons I’d been driving forever and a day for. Thanks, Fern! I’ll be back.

I’ve gotten several Keratin straightening treatments from Shannon, and I love them! They’re healthier than a Brazilian Blow Out but have the same effect.
I’ve been to a ton of hairdressers to help with my my frizzy, dull-​colored hair, and have left with many mediocre results, but I always leave Shannon happy! She’s amazing with difficult hair, and I leave loving my color and newly straight hair every time!

I’ve been coming to the Colour Authority for many years. I started using Melissa a couple if years ago. She’s the best! Whole family now uses her. Highly recommend.

I have been going to the Colour Authority to get my hair done for three years now! I love the stylist, Denise who is also the owner. Her technique is cutting edge and current with styles of my generation. I can’t tell you how many times a month someone will comment on how much they love my hair! It’s great that people notice my hair so much that they would stop to tell me! I highly recommend trying this salon. Not only is Denise good, but I’ve seen her staff and they are all gorgeous, stylish and good at what they do. I also love the fact that the salon is very clean and they serve refreshments for the clientele. I’ve seen some pretty gross salons and this place is spic and span!
