Specialties
St. Gabriel Episcopal School is a preschool and prekindergarten for children 3 – 5 years old in the Bethany area of NW Portland near Beaverton and Hillsboro. We provide a nurturing community and empowering environment dedicated to teaching young children to thrive in the word through learning experiences based on imagination, creativity and curiosity. Our emergent curriculum has roots in the Reggio Emilia child-centered classroom philosophy. Children collaborate with teachers, parents and other children as they play and explore the world in classrooms full of creative materials. Nature is brought into the classroom and children play outside every day. By guiding what they learn about, students acquire a life-long love of learning. Our Episcopal– based program embraces the principles of inclusion, respect, compassion, service and social justice. We create a climate of cultural competency where people from different cultures and backgrounds communicate, interact, and build community.
History
Established in 2013.
St. Gabriel Episcopal School has been being planned since 2011 and will open Fall 2014. The school is part of the mission of St. Gabriel Episcopal Church through their Yew Life Center to serve their community and be a resource to our neighbors by offering educational opportunities «to nurture a centered life.» Here you will find the beginnings of a dream; a place, we hope, to rest and be fed. We are creating a community of families who will form supportive relationships and lasting friendships for many years to come. Our school is non-profit and as a good steward of our planet, we practice and teach green living. We are a member of the National Association of Episcopal Schools (NAES) and are licensed through the state of Oregon.
