History

Established in 2011.

Something Borrowed was founded by Lane’ Bigsby after planning her own DIY wedding. Looking for unique and individual pieces, she realized there was no local source that was affordable for props and décor. After meeting with a couple of other brides, the idea was formed to start a type of lending library of wedding goods and décor. After a few months of the idea rolling around, the business started in Bigsby’s basement. Something Borrowed has now grown into one of the largest rental company’s offering unique pieces to personalize any event.

As a Master Recycler and eco-​advocate, founder Lane’ Bigsby quickly learned how much money and one-​time uses go into wedding décor when she got married in the summer of 2011. Wanting a sustainable, eco-​friendly wedding, she set out to make her wedding a green event following a few simple rules: everything had to be borrowed, used, homemade/​DIY and everything had to be easily recycled or repurposed to create as little waste as possible. The result was a wedding for ~100 people, for roughly $ 3000, one small grocery bag of trash, and the start of «Something Borrowed Portland».

I’m a florist and one of my wedding clients decided to ditch all the glassware and vessels she had collected over the several months, THE week of her wedding and ask me to start from scratch! Ack!
I panicked for a few minutes and then calmed down because I knew that I could find cool and unique items at Something Borrowed to create a boho chic look in a jiffy. I simply went online and picked out inventory and put it on my wishlist. I was thankful that most of my selected items were available — and then a couple days later, I added a few last minute additional items.
Received great customer service and beautiful rentals, the rental process was smooth, professional and thorough. On behalf of my client and myself, thank you so much for helping us!!!

We used Something Borrowed PDX to rent furniture for 90% of our wedding rentals. We not only rented decorations from her, but rented bars, sitting areas, dishes, forks, drinkwear, etc. Lane is absolutely awesome. She has a great sense of style and is well organize. If she has already rented something you are interested in, you can bet she will have a pretty good substitute. Our wedding was at Duckridge Farm and one of the main reasons it was a success was because of Lane and Something Borrowed. We could not have been more happy with the end product. We would STRONGLY recommend them for any event.

I rented a lot of furniture and décor from Something Borrowed for my July wedding at Bridal Veil Lakes. We rented 3 couches, a number of chairs/​tables, like 90 mercury glass votives, a bunch of milk glass vases, and lots of cake pedestals. We also had a sweetheart table package from her.
The ease of the whole process working with Lane’ was remarkable. She has a huge collection that you can go see, her team packs everything up, I paid for delivery, and then they just came buy to pick everything up. I changed my order several times throughout the few months leading up to the wedding– and she was always super responsive and friendly.
Whether you are throwing a party, having family over for a holiday (she has SO MANY beautiful dishes!), planning a wedding or a corporate event– Something Borrowed is your best bet. Our wedding was sooo beautiful with all of our rentals– THANK YOU!

I recently recommended Something Borrowed on a conference I was helping coordinate. I knew that Lane’ had a wonderful selection and that her prices were reasonable. Being that this was the inaugural conference for the group I was working with, our budget was limited and selling them on the idea of bringing in lounge areas had to be both functional and cost effective. We checked those two things off the list right away. What I had not anticipated was how incredible it would be to work with Lane’. She went above and beyond to help us piece together the furniture in the space we were using and did research on plant rental versus purchasing as it was something my client was interested in doing. It took some time nailing down exactly what we wanted as our budget did increase slightly as the conference drew near and Lane’ was always willing to make adjustments for us. I feel so grateful to have worked with Lane’ and having been the one to recommend her to my clients, she made me look pretty good too! Thank you Lane’!

We recently used Something Borrowed vintage rentals for rugs and vases for our June wedding. All the products are cared for and as well-​mantained as possible. Lane was able to accommodate our schedules to help make arrangements for us to view the showroom. She was very communicative over email and made sure we had everything we needed. She was very helpful in offering as much or as little advice as you might need to get the look you want for your wedding or event. I would highly recommend for vintage rentals.

My husband and I rented a number of items from Something Borrowed for our outdoor wedding last September. Lane was so wonderful to work with! Everything was reasonably priced. Lane was unbelievably flexible and responsive throughout the process of figuring out just what we needed/​wanted for our special day. If anything that I requested wasn’t available, she was so great at helping me figure out an alternative item that would look just as beautiful and serve the same purpose. The delivery and pickup of the items was also very convenient — they took care of everything for such a reasonable rate. And everything that we ordered looked just as beautiful, if not even better in person than it did in the pictures. The items added such a special touch to our day. It was a great rental experience all around!

I’ve been meaning to get on here and write a review for this amazing company. My wedding was this past summer, and the company who I had originally set up everything with forgot my order completely. So with help of my wedding planners the day before my wedding I was allowed by lane to come to her space and pick out whatever I may need. She seriously saved the day for me. She was so kind and sweet. The company who forgot my order (which I’ll stay classy and not mention) completely pissed me off. Please just go to Lane she will make your life so much easier for you. Plus, her collection is way better!

I am so happy that this place exists! I was looking at how much it was going to cost me to buy all this stuff to decorate my wedding, and where was I going to store it?!
I was so excited to find this place! They were affordable, had tons of stuff to choose from, and they were very pleasant to work with. I really liked the space, although it was a bit confusing to find! She had everything displayed, the online site was easy to use, and Lane was accomodating when I literally decided to change the theme of the wedding only 1 month before! Highly recommend Somethingborrowedpdx for decorating your event!

If I could give Lane’ at Something Borrowed 10 stars, I would! I needed to plan a rehearsal dinner from the east coast that would take place at a public park in Portland, OR, the west coast! I had some idea of what I wanted but without Lane’ help and the beautiful vintage rentals available from Something Borrowed’s vast inventory, I never could have done it. Lane’ guided me through different options and ideas when I wasn’t sure of what to select and she answered my endless questions with patience and grace. She was professional as well as warm and friendly. When the day of my event came, I was lost as to where to start. Then, Lane’ arrived and I immediately saw her go into action. She unpacked all of my rented items and brought my vision to life for the” Party in the Park”. She was a pleasure to work with from start to finish. I did not meet Lane’ until the day of my event but I felt like she was a good friend who went out of her way to make my event perfect! She is a very gifted designer and I was fortunate to find her!

I am a wedding business owner and have worked with many industry professionals. In my experience Something Borrowed is as good as it gets. If you are looking for quality rentals, great prices, friendly service and a really amazing selection on beautiful antiques, then you’ve found the right place! I have worked with 2 other rentals companies in town that do similar services and just have not been as impressed as regards quality of selections, level of service, and professionalism.

On my first visit to this shop, the owner Lane’ was unfriendly. I was talking with her about table designs, but the conversation was uncomfortable and I felt unwelcome… I had planned to rent tables and benches and plates and other assorted dishes and decorations. After the initial interaction, I changed my order only to include a type of dish I would not be able to get elsewhere. The day before my wedding I called for my pick up and was informed that the business is only opened a couple days a week, and that Lane’ had assumed I had just forgotten since she didn’t hear from me (Even though this is what she was reportedly thinking, she didn’t bother calling with a reminder). The day of my wedding she was difficult to work with in order to make the pick up happen. It was as if she didn’t care because she already had recieved the payment, so who cares if I recieve the product! by the way, it cost $ 80 to borrow 50 dishes and this isn’t really that inexpensive! during this phone conversation Lane’ was again unfriendly, and though I had in fact missed the pick-​up window, I still expect friendly customer service, especially on my wedding day! Ultimately a friend of mine called her back to work out a pick up time just 30 mins before the ceremony! At least we got them, but I wish I had never planned to rent from her in the first place– I definitely could have done without the disappointment! All of my other rentals from other companies went smoothly and were very positive experiences with super friendly and accommodating service! I recommend doing business elsewhere!

Perfect for adding a vintage touch to special events! I had a small elopement ceremony and needed furniture for refreshments/​photos. Lane’ came up with some styling ideas, and I loved the aesthetic. She went out of her way to help set everything up. She is very hard working and prices are extremely reasonable.

This is a FANTASTIC service! I rented several items for a baby shower and I couldn’t be happier. It was wonderful to be able to rent items that I know I wouldn’t ever use again rather than purchasing, and much cheaper! My only little issue was location. I thought I was lost several times but once I figured out my way it was much easier when I had to return everything.

I am renting from this company for my august wedding. Since my fiancé and I are low income, they are offering their services at an extreme discount. It really is thanks to caring, community businesses like this that I can afford to have my beautiful day. Their selection was perfect, quirky, vintage and lovely. They were also very fast in processing my order and very professional.
