Signal Station Pizza

Great exterior aesthetics, but the food is terrible. I ordered the chicken pesto sub sandwich, but there were just three miniscule nubs of chicken hidden among massive globs of superbly salty pesto sauce. And THAT was buried by a TON of lettuce and some old tomatoes.
The place inside is dirty: floors a mess, tables covered in grime, crumbs, and beverage wet spots from previous customers.
I would not go back, even when hungry.

I will no longer accept thin, floppy, cold, unappealingly congealed re-​heated pizza at over $ 4 a slice. Portland somehow finds this acceptable? Can’t wait for Flying Pie to expand further!

Old gas station converted to pizza joint. Pizza is fairly saucey and the dough is soft. We got the bridge pizza, aka pineapple + Canadian bacon and it was delicious. $ 2.50 pbr pounders hell yeah! Also happy hour 4 – 6 for $ 1 high life! Overall, great pizza, good atmosphere, and definitely worth a stop if you’re hanging in St Johns. They also offer ice cream, in case you have room for dessert.

The place stinks like it hasn’t been thoroughly cleaned in a while. The food here actually tastes like the way it smells. The last and the last pizza I had there wasn’t cooked all the way through and it tasted horrible — like I mentioned above. They gave the wrong salad dressing, and the one they gave was all greasy-​from the dirty hands of the lady making it, to add to this while I was there I watched one of the workers return to work after her smoke break and NOT wash her hands…
There is NO care in this place or what they call food. Skip it Dominos (and Dominos is as gross as shit) is better — and way more consistent.

The Signal Special has goat cheese and walnuts on it. WALNUTS. On a pizza. Need I say more?

I love this place! I wish that they delivered, and that the center of the pie was a little less soggy, but the flavors are awesome!

I ordered a pizza for pick-​up. I had a pizza craving. This is the first time I’d gone here. The pizza was okay but the place seemed dirty to me, certainly cluttered. I was not feeling well and maybe this influenced my perspective. I am not sure I will give it a second chance.

This is the best pizza in St John’s, and bring an east coaster who is an expert on amazing pizza, this is the only place I order from. Wish they delivered!

This place was recommended to me when I moved to St. Johns. In fact, it was highly recommended. Since I’m not a huge pizza guy it’s easy for me to not like a pizza place. Maybe too east. I think it is in part due to my not liking greasy/​oily foods (every Thai review I mention something about oil) and pizza is usually somewhat greasy/​oily.
First of all the prices weren’t too bad for the pizza ($ 16.50 for a large) and between the girlfriend and I we had 3 leftover pieces. It’s not a HUGE large pizza so three people is probably the perfect amount to eat one. They also have beer on tap and the seating was ample since the weather was nice. The vibe of the place is very laid back and it is a cool setup with the old service station.
Now to the food! We had the Willamette Pizza and the other people with us had a St. John’s and a Cesar Sala. The salad was large and we actually all split it up. The crust on the pizza is thin which I prefer and it had just the right amount of crisp to it. The pizza was kind of oily but not terrible. The toppings were fresh there were a lot of them on the Za! They had this hot sauce to put on there and it was delicious. I’d highly recommend trying it!
I’m a fan of the pizza. I was told it was the Greatest Pizza of all time by someone, which I can’t agree with that statement. However it is pretty darn good and I will most certainly be back to try some more slices!

Decent local place. Kids like it and they have ice cream. Nice outdoor seating. Too bad about all the cigaret buts around the place. Yuck

Consistently really good. When I lived in St. John’s, I was here about once a week. I always found it to be quick, the service to be excellent and the pizza very good. You wouldn’t see many businesses explain why they raise prices but these guys did on a sign. And of course the place is extremely charming, in the old service station. A St. John’s gem.

3.5 stars. Not the best pizza in St Johns, just average. I got to try the pepperoni (decent) and the «Saint Johns» (also decent). Prices were fair and staff was friendly, but the place was a little cramped, trying to fit in an old gas station.
The crust/​dough seemed low quality, even store bought, which hurt the pizza. The cheese and tomato sauce also seemed poor quality. It was a very average tasting pizza, with way better options elsewhere.

We’ve ordered 4 different kinds of pizzas to-​go and they’ve all been good. Not stand-​out amazing but super consistent and in my opinion, the best of the options in St. John’s. Prompt and yummy. Will order again and again and probably again since we eat pizza like. a lot.

Not too impressed. Thin greasy cheese pizza did the job but wouldn’t be something I crave go get again. Workers seemed super nice however but noticed there hair wasn’t even tied up etc while they made pizza

OK this pizza is the bomb. Even if i didn’t live in St. Johns I would come over to get it. You should too!

Best pizza in town. Unique toppings and quick service. It’s a little pricey, but I guess you have to pay for quality!

Signal Station is a little underwhelming among similar establishments in Portland. Although the Gas Station exterior is way cool, the rest of the experience fails to meet expectations.
The inside feels disorganized which makes it feel unclean. The décor is cluttered and disjointed. The service is rather lacking in enthusiasm and borders on rude.
The Pepperoni Pizza I ordered was bland and cold. The sauce was weak and lacked any distinguishing characteristics or flavor. The pepperoni and cheese were greasy and generic. The whole experience left me rather cold. I was disappointed since this seems to be a landmark of sorts in St. John’s. I would recommend taking the extra step to go to Sizzle Pie if you really want a unique Portland Pizza Experience.

I stopped to get a couple of gift certificates for an event. I was helped immediately by a friendly young woman. She apologized that she had no fancy envelopes for the gift certificates, but I said that would give me something to do at home by putting stickers and stuff on envelopes to house the gift certificates. Whilst I waited, I was nose to nose with slices. The price was right and the pizza looked terrific. My slice had pepperoni (great big old rounds of pepperoni and no stinting on them), beautiful ripe tomatoes, and sweet crunchy slices of red pepper. The crust was nice and thin and there was plenty of tomato sauce under the goodies. This made me happy because any more it seems like pizza never has enough sauce, just a mere scraping, and I love plenty of sauce. I took my slice outside and sat in the sun, ate my pizza, and drank my kombucha purchased elsewhere. Now, of course, I’m sleepy from the pizza and sun, but what a lovely day to have been able to do this. Signal Station does serve sandwiches and salads and lots of different «flavors» of pizza. All this is motivation to come back and enjoy other offerings.
PS: I totally forgot to say how much I love the physical setting of Signal Station Pizza. It’s in what was an old gas station all gussied up for modern times for restaurant use. The whole décor is geared towards nostalgia for the old filling stations and is lovingly decorated with vintage (vintage-​style) décor from the classic era in the 1940s and 1950s. It’s a real attention-​getter as you drive through St. Johns and definitely helps to make you want to stop here. It is very clean. I can see how cozy it would be on a rainy day.

I thought this place was great! We looked over the menu and decided it was all good so we went for it. My boyfriend got a hot sub which was so tasty and full of chicken, bacon, pesto and cheese. Seriously perfect sandwich. I got the personal #1 Signal Station Special that had goat cheese, olives, sun dried tomatoes, and walnuts and wow, it was packed full of flavor. The personal is more than enough for one very, very hungry person or two people of medium to medium-​high hunger levels.

We’ve Lived up here for 2 years now, but just recently decided to give Signal Station a shot. Maybe we made the mistake of not eating it there because by the time we got it home, which was about 10 minutes, it was barely warm.
We ordered the St. John’s combo — and while it was okay, it wasn’t amazing. Dough has no flavor whatsoever and the toppings on the combo were fairly light.
Service is what you’d expect: hipsters that barely know how to speak and act annoyed to be serving you.
We’ll give it another shot only because our options in St. John’s are terribly limited right now, but they better step up their game soon if they want to stay in competition with all the new renovations in town that are starting to happen.
