We are family owned and operated for over 41 years. We offer the best view in town, of the beautiful Columbia River! We serve a varied menu, micro-brews and a full assortment of spirits. History

Established in 1973.

Established in March 1973 by Dean Burch, Easily located on Marine Drive, by the Columbia River next to the Portland International Airport. Pleasant window seating in dining room. bar area has poker machines and pool tables for your entertainment. We server a varied menu, micro-brews and a full assortment of spirits. Breakfast served on weekends only, starting at 10:00 AM. Free WI-FI service. MINORS not allowed. Outside an all Season covered dining deck, with a separate smoking area. Below is a Large Charming Patio Beer Garden, Useful for Parties, Reunions and a favorite spot for Customers to relax and enjoy the wonderful view, as the river flows by.

This is my families owned and operated business for 41 years now. I’m now on my third time as manager and have been for the past 5 years now. I not only act as manager, but I take on the responsibility of the owner aswell. My Mother who is the sole owner, lives her life in sunny Mexico 8 – 9 months a year. Our business has done very well. It started out as a small Tavern and then I and a vision, I then changed it over to hard Alcohol, and then made this place bigger and better, we added on a covered deck with a large Patio and a wonder view of the Columbia River.

Chicken sandwich was pretty decent. Disappointed clam chowder is only on Fridays. People are pretty divey but back deck is welcoming and great view of the Columbia.

I live close by so I tend to go there a few times a month. Great prices and customer service! Their cheeseburgers are pretty darn good. And I love their clam chowder, the only thing I don’t like about it is the fact that I can only get it on Fridays.

It’s a dive bar, the only thing sweet about this place is the location cause it’s right on the river. Other than that. I have a hard time returning to this place. I’ve now been here a handful of times to be able to judge that everything especially the service SUCKS. The only reason I’m giving 2 stars is the sweet location with an outdoor patio. The other time that was memorable for me was when I got all excited to come here for brunch with family that was in town and getting breakfast burritos and French toast took 55min… The handful of times that I’ve been, it’s been a disappointment. The food is okay, but service man, they need to care a little more. Try to maybe have more than 1 person working on a Friday night, it was so bad this last visit, I saw a guy bussing his own tables, yikes.

This is one of my favorite places on the river. Pub food. I come here to relax on the patio, and talk all things boat with people who know boats.
I usually get A burger and fries, but tonight I went with the special. Clam chowder, fish chips. Decent the fish was a little rubbery, but that has to do with that ten second fine line that comes with deep frying.
Public dock to tie the boat up, and the people here are nice.
It’s not five star dinning, but hay I showed up in flip flops.

I came in with my best friend for my birthday! Yay! Just kidding. It was a huge let down :(
The Bloody Mary is $ 6.00, it is weak, they don’t use celery salt (flaked margarita), and the size is kind of silly for $ 6.00. You can go to almost any bar and get a larger, stronger one made right for $ 5.00 at happy hour.
My salad was brown and wilted, the ranch was room temperature and I think the actually added water to it? Or it’s just funky ranch? Or it was warm mayo? I don’t want to go into the other options.
I had told my friend that I had no intention of going buck wild right away lol. We decided decided on one drink, tots and salad to start. When the server Kim heard our small order, she obviously decided our table wasn’t worth her time. As soon as our cups and stuff were empty, she walked over and dropped the check and walked away before I could say we weren’t done :/
I started to tell the server that we weren’t quite done yet and I saw her attitude Change to radiant and happy. Then she tried to touch me. WHOA. I’m like hey… don’t bro me like you know me.
Pros: boater friendly, pool tables, outdoor dining and larger party friendly. (Busser guy was friendly)
Cons: brown salads, bad dressing, rude servers, overpriced and weak drinks, music is too loud for romantic dates. (Unless loud classic rock is your Luther Vandross).

I go here often because it’s super close to my house. On any given day it will be busy and full of mostly middle aged to older people. It’s a super relaxed environment with pretty good food.
The outside seating is nice when it’s not super windy. I really like the umbrellas to shade me from the sun and the view of the Columbia River.
The food is usually pretty good. I’ve gotten the calamari several times. Usually it’s good… But sometimes it’s a little undercooked. I hope they’re using a thermometer to temp everything before it goes out!
The servers are very kind and attentive. They’re not overbearing, and they seem to be experienced enough.
This is a great place to bring friends and family from out of state because there is a nice beach-like area right next door to go to, too!

I used to enjoy coming to this place because there were a few nice servers I would request to sit in their section. I have learned recently that most of the staff has been replaced. Since, I have visited and found to my dismay, that they’ve fired all of the personable ones and kept the cranky hags that make me not want to return. Their food is just OK, too.

Embarrassingly lame service. We waited 15 minutes before chasing down the server tonight. She said she’d be right with us. 5 minutes later, after absolutely no attempt to get us menus or take drink orders, we left.
Know, too, that it wasn’t busy – in fact, it was around 10 pm with only a few tables occupied. We won’t be back to waste our time here again. No excuse for such poor, rude, non-service. Take some pride in yourself, Sextant.

The patio is great, right on the water however service is horrible! Took 20 min to even get the order and another 15 min to bring just drinks. Wanted to order appetizers, shots and another round of drinks but the server never came back. On top of things there were 3 servers and it wasn’t even busy!

We came here for Mother’s Day and my mom was soo impressed that she emailed the restaurant — on her own — to say how much we enjoyed ourselves. She raved about how wonderful our server, Helen, was as well as the bussers; one in particular that kindly took some lovely photos of our family for us standing past the parking lot with the river in the background.
My parents decided to split the seafood sampler platter and were shocked by how large the serving was. Those little piggy’s even had enough to take home in a «doggy bag» (what my mom still calls it). My mom also raved that it came with the best cold slaw she’d ever had.
I ordered the shrimp salad and loved every bite. I was also shocked by how big it was and how much shrimp they load onto it.
My brother ordered a turkey sandwich. It came open-faced and smothered in a cheesy gravy. He was convinced he got the wrong order, but gobbled it up anyway.
Another great point was the deck — which was open. Thank God! It was cloudy but the sun came out just for us.
The drink special was a «Bottomless» mimosa for $ 10. That had my name written all over it and I definitely got my money’s worth.
The inside of the restaurant is like a dive-bar or «Cheers» but the deck sits on the Columbia River and has a spectacular view.
For people like us, who could not afford the $ 50 brunch at the fancy-schmancy restaurant next door, this was perfect. Great food. Great deal. Great service. Great View.

First sunny day going in! I love these places where you just sit outside and watch the sailboats going by. serene and time stopping as you sip on your favorite beverage and let that sun finally melt the cold right out of you.
The food is what you would expect in a place like this. lots of fried for the most part. but also some fish options as well as salads. We had our usual salmon and caesar salad. You get a good hunk of fish on top of a big bunch of romaine with their dressing. Not to mention the croutons and the parm cheese sprinkled on top of it all.
The service was not a problem. good enough when you needed another Corona and lime but not pushy so you could just sit and take it all in… Hurry up summer!

I have been to the Sextant several times and I can certainly relate to many of the other posts regarding service issues in the past. Decent bar, awesome river view and deck, TVs and lottery… suspect service.
Please note: Sextant recently brought a new bar manager on board. And, like any good leader, some of her servers have followed. If you don’t find the service to be better than the past, talk to Michelle about it. But I don’t think you’ll have any issues.
While I’m 4-star on Sextant as a bar, I’m 3-star at best for their food. I hope this is something they upgrade as well… mostly because so many other bars offer great food now, you can only sell that river view for so long.
The steamer clams have been awesome every time we’ve had them, but much of the menu seems a bit «factory food-ish» and lots of fried items. I dunno, maybe I’m getting spoiled by finding fun, divey bars that also kill it in the kitchen, but I want Sextant’s menu to be… better.

Good food but neglectful service.
When you have an amazing and beautiful scenic location with highly successful competition within walking distance («Salty’s») the easy thing to do would be to coast. The staff here are coasting. If it were not for everyone around us being neglected, I would think we had self-seated in a dead zone seating table.
We almost missed happy hour pricing because we sat fo 35 minutes with no contact from staff.
The view IS beautiful. The cooks are doing a good job, but the poor delivery risks overshadowing everything.

Came looking for a hangover brunch last weekend, and Salty’s was a little too pricey for my group. We walked into Sextant and were pleasantly surprised! The service was great, our waitress was polite, personable and attentive. It’s a cozy location with a beautiful view of the Columbia just across the parking lot from Salty’s. There are small TV’s throughout and it might be a nice place to get away and watch a game. The prices are reasonable and the seafood selection is decent. They also have bottomless mimosas for $ 10 on the weekend!
The food was better than I would expect for a local dive– My friend ordered the Sextant burger and it was huge and juicy, done just right. I had the fish and chips and the halibut was very tasty, the breading crispy and not too salty with quality (chunky!) tartar sauce. My other friend had the Captain’s platter and the popcorn scallops were cooked just right-you can tell the chef knew what he was doing by the texture. Can’t wait to enjoy the view in the summer, I will definitely be back!

Great place right on the Columbia River.
I had the low carb crispy chicken wrap and it was fantastic! I wasn’t expecting much for a low carb dinner but was very excited how delicious it was.
Am here in March so the deck isn’t the best place to be but look forward to coming back when it is nice outside.
A little noisy inside but overall a pretty decent place.

After a hard, long trail run in the gorge, we were in need of some sustenance! It being a gorgeous day (see what I did there? har har), we were tempted by the riverside dining options along Marine Drive and ended up at the Sextant.
We ended up on the back deck enjoying the picture-perfect day. The place was packed, which we (and the server, as we found out later), were surprised by since it was 2:30pm. Note: there is an outdoor smoking section, so if you’re really smoke averse but want to sit outside, aim for the far end of the patio.
It’s a typical sports bar-type place, with a decent selection of pub food and drinks. My husband and I got a couple of beers, a tuna melt, and a salad with shrimp and veggies. While not incredibly noteworthy, the food was still perfectly tasty, fresh, and very satisfying.
The staff was down a server until about 3pm, and I think they handled the abnormally large crowd pretty well; they were all working their tails off. Our server was really nice and friendly, and did a great job. Prices seemed reasonable.
We would definitely come back here for a post-run meal, or just to enjoy the patio on another beautiful day.
