Tried making an appointment over the phone with Ernie. The guy had terrible customer service skills and made me feel like I we bothering him for making an appointment over the phone. We went back and forth until landing on a time but once it got close to appointment time I cancelled after realizing what an idiot I would be to give this place money with so many other options in Portland.

One star for the fact that the guy who answered the phone was really rude. I could barely hear him, and when I did figure out what he was saying, he made me feel dumb for not knowing what his availability was. Didn’t end up going in. If the customer service just to book an appointment was bad, I can’t imagine it would get better for a cut. His name was Ernie

Ernie cut me up good. Real good. Plus, the conversation was fantastic. What more could a guy ask for than a beer, a fresh trim, and a laugh? Rook’s is a solid shop in a competitive town — and dare I say a «cut above» the rest(my apologies). I’ve been shopping around for a good barbershop for a few months now, and Rook’s just got my long-term business.

Very happy to see a Rooks location downtown. Much easier to get to than than the other ones considering I go to work/class downtown anyway. This location is awesome. There are 3 chairs available, but only two people were there when I came by. MAKE A RESERVATIONONLINE. Megan cut my hair and did an awesome job. The price is a little steep($ 27 for a cut) but they really make sure you leave with a cut you’ll like. The hot towel neck shave at the end is always something I’ll prefer when it comes to a barbershop experience vs a cut from a friend or god forbid a franchise like great clips. Trust me, you’ll get what you pay for here. Plus there’s a complimentary drink while you wait or are getting a haircut(beer, soda, juice, etc.). Depending on who you get a cut from, they know how to keep a conversation if you’re comfortable with it. If you just wanna get a cut and relax, that’s fine too. Check these guys out, they do a fantastic job. The worst that will happen is you’ll walk out with a GREAT haircut.

The guys(and Amanda) are great. Very personable and perfectionistic(which what I look for in a barber… if not OCD).
