Residence Inn by Marriott Portland Downtown/RiverPlace

I felt like the rooms and the hotel were nice. But I did have some things I didn’t like.
Breakfast was never what it was posted as it would be in the elevator so I went down thinking I would get one thing to be shown another
The night I stayed the «restaurant» opened and there was hype from all the employees about it. I looked over the menu and saw wings for 7 dollars. In my head I thought this must be too good to be true. It was. After waiting 12 minutes to order from someone I saw my wings being thrown into a microwave In front of me. Literally nothing is more unattractive than ordering hot wings and seeing them microwaved. The wing quality was also that of the lowest. Amid all of this going on it took me another 10 minutes to pay for said gross wings. There were 4 Marriott executives drinking and watching all of this going down at the bar. Not a single apology, or word being said to guests, but they did keep ordering drinks which were made and given out before actual guests were taken care of. It bothered me. These are hospitality experts, but I felt like they failed their employees and most importantly me the guest.
Lastly I took a bath in my last night there and noticed while sitting in the tub that my toilet had something gross all over it, not sure if it was pee or crap or throw up but none the less when your paying 200 plus a night this sight was disappointing.
When I showed the front desk employee the picture of the toilet she told me they would comp my parking. To me this was like you know what nice I appreciate that but then she let me know that she wouldn’t be able to do it for both nights, just a single one.
Overall this stay was a disappointment. When I booked and looked at photos I thought this place had real potential but I felt like I was treated like a number and not a guest

The rooms are like mini apartments and well stocked. Very quiet and private. The customer service with the front desk staff was excellent! Natali, Jamelyn and Kyle went out of their way to make our stay amazing. Defiantly will stay again.

This weekend was my first stay at this hotel and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone. I was here for a small bachelorette party, and the studio king room was perfect for four people. The room was spacious and clean. Had a pullout sofa and decent kitchenette. The street car stopped right in front of the hotel which was perfect since we we didn’t want to pay parking fees (29 dollars to park for a day is a bit too much) But I have to say, the customer service was incredible. Anything we needed, the front desk was more than happy to help us out. Definitely enjoyed my stay here and will be back in the future.

I personally did not stay here but I am rating this place because this hotel location is PRIME for night city shots of portland! It is really close to the pier and there are some super short walking paths that take you directly under the bridge and photographers can get some cool city lights pictures. I had to pee and the VERY KING staff allowed me to use their lobby bathroom despite the lobby being under construction.
For those photographers/​tourists, I recommend coming here late at night (11pm ish) because parking in downtown or in this part of Portland can be tricky. I ended up parking right infront of the hotel and had no problem with traffic or parking spots.
TL;DR = park near here and walk down to the pier for awesome night shots of Portland!

This is my second visit here, but it will also probably be my last. The room rate has gone up considerably since my last visit. The parking rate is preposterous at 30.00 a day in an awful garage. The lobby is being redone — which means they moved the breakfast up a floor to a conference room. They should inform guests of changes like this. It changed the whole experience, and not in a great way. Getting food was a joke at any hour — and availability wasn’t great either. My newly expensive room wasn’t very clean. Crumbs in the cupboard. No ice in the freezer. Gross finger print on the dishwasher. Shower curtain looked bad. The front desk was okay. The lobby looks nice. I like the beds here quite a lot which is one of the reasons I stay here. But for around 270.00 a night? It just isn’t that kind of place.

We were promptly greeted when we got here. The front desk staff are nice, friendly and helpful. There is an extra fee of $ 29 for parking. The hotel lobby is cozy and beautiful, under minor construction now, so breakfast is served at the second floor and as a result, getting breakfast can be a hassle as the current breakfast area is pretty small and people have to stand in line to get breakfast; it is included in the room price and includes a special item for each day (french toast on Saturdays) as well as some usual items such as waffles, bagels and cheese and eggs and home fries.
Rooms are spacious with a full kitchen which can be useful. We asked for two double beds, but were given a queen bed and a sofa bed; but I still liked the room. Wifi is free and there is free computer/​printer access. It is a little bit father from downtown, but still within a decent distance. Hotel lobby is nicely decorated, albeit a bit cold. overall, It was a very nice stay and if I am back in Portland, I would gladly stay here again.

I am in my room right now listening to constant drilling. When I booked, there was no mention of construction taking place during my dates — nor was I even told when I checked in. I had to wait until I got to my room and heard it for myself. It’s apparently on the first floor but the sound of drilling can travel. I spoke to the manager who simply said, «Well, we can’t shut down the hotel when we need to do construction so what are we going to do?» Unacceptable.

Very spacious, clean room at a very reasonable price. The hotel is on the outskirts of downtown and it’s about a 20 minute walk (5 – 10 drive) to the busier parts of downtown. The only problem was that the breakfast area was very compact.

When we arrived Friday night we were quickly & kindly helped & given a room on the top floor. I had forgotten they were all suites so when we walked in we were happily surprised to find a huge, clean king size bed, kitchenette & large couch.
Everything was really nice and clean, the bed was sooooooo comfortable, it was hard to leave it each morning. The place had free wi-​fi included as well as continental breakfast till 10am which was pretty good. Overnight parking was around $ 30, but you could have people park for free for a few hours as long as it wasn’t overnight.
If I’m ever back in Portland I would totally stay here again.

Very happy with the Residence Inn by Marriott! Downtown/​RiverPlace is a great location just steps away from South Waterfront Park. The one bedroom suite with King and sofa bed is very spacious. Plenty of room for my family of four. The breakfast buffet which is included offers many healthy options. Plenty of fresh fruit, eggs, and homemade waffles. They have a nice workout room and a pool with jacuzzi. We found the pool to be over chlorinated though. It was so bad that it was hard to enjoy. But all in all this is a great hotel especially if you’re traveling with children. Nice having a kitchen with full sized refrigerator in the room. The staff is especially courteous, friendly and always willing to be of service. Great hotel and excellent value for the money!

Five stars for what this is: an «aparthotel» (apartment living with hotel amenities). We are a family of four with two kids under the age of five and being able to stay in a hotel suite complete with two rooms including a small kitchen (with microwave, electric range, dishwasher, and full-​sized fridge) is very important to us. Great location (edge of downtown, and safe), laundry facilities, gym, pool, AND breakfast served every morning. We had eggs florentine on Friday and French toast on Saturday. All these little conveniences make a big difference when you’re traveling with kids. We will definitely be back!

It’s always nice to get dinged an additional $ 29 buck for parking. You go out of your way to buy in shitty areas so the property is cheap, buy a little more so we can park (or better yet, include it in your rates).
Room is very quiet, very clean. The kitchenette was a nice touch.

Great hotel, from the service to the rooms. The only reason why it gets 4 stars is mainly location, since it’s a bit further from downtown Portland… but the TriMet rail system is so easy to use that it’s not that big of an issue. This location is right by the waterfront, so you can take nice walks alongside the river to some restaurants.
+ ROOMS: Very spacious. having a full kitchen is very useful, especially having that full size refrigerator to hold all the beer I bought to bring back to Los Angeles. Free Wifi throughout the hotel.
+ SERVICE and AMENITIES: Very friendly and helpful. They serve breakfast every morning and the hotel is kept very clean. I love the fact that one of the floors is for the Ronald McDonald Foundation for pediatric cancer patients, it’s great that some space is offered for the children and their families. They are also Pet-​friendly and have both pet and no pet floors. The gym is decently sized and next to the swimming pool so you can get your workout in before or after that huge meal!

A little out of the way from downtown life, but the streetcar $ 1 pass for 2 hours or $ 5 pass for all day, all systems is literally outside the front door.
Pros: Quiet, despite the double decker freeway that runs a few yards from the property. Walking paths to the riverfront. Clean. Friendly staff. Well stocked market. Nice amenities and décor throughout. The free breakfast is one of the best around. Wide variety, and it stays stocked up until the last minute. Plenty of seating too. Free wi-​fi. Free computer/​printer access. Nice indoor pool and jacuzzi. Modern rooms with plenty of space, including a refrig, microwave, sink, stovetop, etc.
Cons: Hard for the Über/​Lyft drivers to find as the street is difficult to get to. Nothing close enough to walk to shopping wise. Construction going on across the street, but you can’t hear it inside.
Overall, a nice place to stay. Wish it was closer to downtown life, but maybe peace and quiet after a long day is better.

Wow, what a cool place to stay along the waterfront. When I arrived, my hometown did not disappoint with keeping Portland weird. I was greeted by a Beer Festival in the park and funny little Boat Parade. I felt like a Prom Queen at her Homecoming Game.
The hotel has been remodeled and has everything a person could need, whether you’re traveling on business or for vacation. The rooms are spacious and spotless, beds are comfy and it’s quiet at night. Rowdy, party people stay away. :)
The hotel has a breakfast buffet in the morning that’s extra tasty and offers plenty of seating. Also, the lobby has a sitting lounge if you need to work on business presentation or want to hang out with family and friends.
Pet and kid friendly, I think it’s a great hotel for families. It’s a beautiful location along the water, close to transit, restaurants and Portland activities.
I will definitely stay here again.

I really liked this place! Here’s why:
Location — great location — within walking distance of many restaurants and parks
Staff — the staff was amazing. Everyone was nice and they accommodated our very early check in and were really nice about it.
Breakfast — They had a great selection of hot and cold items and they were all tasty. It was a perfect way to start the day, save money, and not have to worry about finding breakfast.
The room… huge room! The bed was comfortable, there was a couch, dining room table and full kitchen with dishwasher, full-​sized fridge, silverware etc.
The only reason I’m holding back a star is 1) for the parking… it’s a bit expensive, but it’s not the first time I’ve seen it in a big city so it’s really a half star. The other half star is that the room needed a safe.
Also — tip: we stayed on the top floor with a city view. We didn’t get charged an upgrade, but if you’re presented that option I wouldn’t recommend the upgrade. The view is of the city, but in the middle are train tracks — it’s not especially pretty. :)

Since we finally stayed at the hotel, I can update my review with better accuracy. Check-​in was a breeze and the female clerk was super friendly with local suggestions. We were placed on the 7^th floor and were told that it was in the remodeled section. We were in the lower 700’s and had a nice view of the river. Everything was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast time was busy but plenty of food was available. I never heard any noise from the other guest rooms.
The location is great for those that are into jogging or biking by the river. If you want to walk ‘downtown’ expect at least a ten minute walk. I don’t suggest this hotel if you want to be in the heart of downtown, but if you want a more quiet and relaxed time, then stay here. That said, the $ 28 parking charge is quite steep, especially if you drive downtown and have to pay for additional parking. When we stay downtown we usually park in one of the structures that charge half of that.
We would stay here again!

We won this hotel due to a priceline bid. Priceline bids are always risky since you never know what hotel you might get but I was so pleased!
First off, the lobby is super nice. I loved that there was a «market» in the lobby where you can get snacks, beers, wine, drinks and even TV dinners ²⁴⁄₇. The room itself is fantastic. I walked in expecting the worst since it was only $ 120 compared to all the downtown Portland hotels. I was pleasantly surprised by the space and amenities. The lobby even has little cubicles with an individual TV, couch and table. Perfect for people who checked out and still want to watch tv ;)
We got a 1 bedroom suite so there was a living room area equipped with TV, comfy couch, table, and even a full kitchen. We never used it but it was nice to have the option if I wanted to. The bedroom had a king bed and another TV. The bed was quite comfortable and very clean.
Although there isn’t much in the immediate location of the hotel, we were able to access the freeway and tourist destinations easily by car.
The only reason for the –1 star is the fact parking costs $ 29 for overnight guests =/

My stay at this hotel was absolutely perfect for my first trip to Portland, where I was visiting a number of graduate schools.
The front desk staff in particular made my stay so great, and Jamelyn (probably spelled wrong, I apologize!) was especially helpful in answering my many questions about the area. She walked me through a map of all the Portland neighborhoods, and basically taught me more than the hours of online research I had toiled through beforehand. She gave me awesome recommendations on what restaurants and bars to check out, and the fastest/​safest/​cheapest means of getting there.
Also, there was complimentary hot breakfast every morning, hbo on ~both~ my tv’s, paul mitchell brand toiletries, and a jar full of chocolate-​mint candies. If I could afford to stay in a place like this every time I traveled, I would!

This hotel is very clean. The room you have is more of a suite because it is very big. You have like a living room and a kitchen with a separate also big room.
You have a flat screen tv in the living room and in the bedroom.
I would prefer again and again.
The staff are very friendly and helpful.
Also the hotel is a very good choice for those who have to spend the next to the hospital.
The car parking is 26 $ per night.
If you are a patient from OHSU, they will give you a good discount.
