I absolutely adored this restaurant. It is very whimsical on the outside and equally charming inside. The food was delicious. I ordered the eggs Benedict; which was absolutely amazing ! The donut muffins were excellent ! My only complaint was the coffee. It was good but the waiter barely came to refill once and left my cup half full. I also had to ask for sugar twice before they finally brought some. Because the food was so good and atmosphere pleasant I will be going back for sure!

I don’t seek out«British pub-stle» restaurants if you will. The reviews and gorgeous historical building brought our«Culinary Adventure Club» here for lunch. Though none of the five of us opted for typical pub fare like fish and chips, every bite of every dish was spectacular. We were a touch embarrassed that our plates looked as clean as before they were plated… practically licked dry! Aside from a wonderfully conversational and attentive waiter, the highest compliment goes to the salmon which was served with the skin crispy but the meat cooked to delicate perfection, not an easy feat! The bed of sautéed greens it sat perched on was divinely flavored and surrounded by a creamy yellow beet sauce. Sounds odd probably, but absolutely delicious.

Went here for lunch to celebrate a 52 week high with work colleagues. Their were 5 of us so we got seated at the round table, awesome! I had the market fish which was salmon on a bed of veges and a delicious sauce.

You have to come here if you live or are visiting Portland! My husband and I were just there for drinks and lite bites, and there’s a second story to this place that is almost like a speakeasy with bar tenders who are full of energy and amazing recommendations for craft cocktails. They make it look like a dance. There’s a pool table and the music they pipe in is rad.

Poor service. Overpriced for what you get. Ambiance is alright. I wish we could have gotten food at the bar instead of the restaurant. They had a $ 17 cheese plate that had three extremely small pieces of cheese, three small pieces of bread and some pomegranate seeds in honey. It was the biggest ripoff of all time. We get cheese plates all the time and this was the worst we’ve ever had. The server didn’t even tell us what kind of cheese it was! The house red was $ 12 and the pour seemed much smaller than most restaurants. The flatbread was ok but not worth the money. I hate giving one star reviews but this was a huge disappointment. We didn’t even order entrees and had one drink each and our bill was $ 107. We ended up having to get food a few hours later because we were so hungry. I want to try the bar menu but I will never go here again for dinner.

We’ve been wanting to try Raven & Rose for a while(being British!) and our review is that it was just fine. Not great just ok. I was really excited to try the Full Irish Breakfast, but was really disappointed to find out that the bacon and sausage were American… not traditional British cuts of meat. Fail! I couldn’t order this with these misses! I settled on the burger(with bacon and an egg) and«English chips». Burger was under seasoned but pretty decent. «English chips» however were far from proper chips! And they were over fried so were hard and were not the proper cut of English chips as promised. Hubby had he corned beef hash and said it was pretty good! All in all not a traditional British experience that we were hoping for and promised by the menu!

Raven and Rose has been my go to place for a fancier lunch for some time now. This place isn’t fast casual cheap, but it isn’t by any means overpriced either. It’s also great that this place is fairly large. I’ve never had to wait more than a few minutes, if at all, for lunch. Everyone I’ve encountered at the restaurant has been friendly, knowledgeable, and competent. The wait staff is gregarious and attentive and the host is quick and efficient. The food here is American(and Irish) staples done quite well and often with a little flourish. I’ve yet to have a soup here that I wasn’t blown away by. The other day it was borscht, but served hot and blended. The soup constantly changes and seems to always fit the mood of the day quite well. Hearty, hot soups on cold overcast days and cold, light soups on hot summer days. The fish dish also changes regularly, and the only disappointment is that sometimes you fall in love with a certain dish and don’t ever see it again. I once had the most tender octopus and I’ve never seen it again QQ The menu does change from time to time. My go to, the pastrami cured steak is currently not on there, but I’m hoping it comes back. Always cooked to a perfect medium rare, exceedingly tender, and seasoned perfectly. My other favorite, the fried rabbit sandwich is back on there after a hiatus. If you love fried chicken, you’ll love their friend rabbit. Juicy in a way no chicken could be, no matter how much you brine it. The Fleur-de-lis ciabatta is an excellent accompaniment. I’ve yet to come here for anything but lunch, but I definitely want to try their dinner and brunch out.

This was our second time here for brunch and as good as we remembered. We brought a bottle of Prosecco to share with our friends. Our waiter put it in an ice bucket to chill for us. Once he found out we were wine lovers he even brought a complimentary glass of the Prosecco they served at the restaurant for us to try. We started with the mini donut muffin made fresh. Perfectly moist and flavorful without any doughy taste. Fantastic! Our main courses were Irish breakfast plate. This was house made black and white puddings; bacon; two eggs; roasted mushrooms and 3 types of sausages. Next was tender pork tenderloin with eggs and grits. The pork tenderloin was so tender and delicious. After that was beef tenderloin and eggs with roasted mushrooms potato hash. Again the meat was cooked perfectly and the potato hash was delicious. Wow! My wife loves all types of tea and they have a chamomile; jasmine and green tea mix that she really enjoyed. Great ambience; wonderful food and service. Nice way to spend a few hours with a couple of our friends.

Fancy establishment in the southern part of downtown Portland. My friend and I came here because it was the only restaurant that was open late on a Saturday evening after 9pm. Food was fancy and delicious. I ordered the rabbit cooked two ways and both ways it was prepared left me wanting more with each bite.

Food, good. Service, abysmal. I hate to complain… However, as a former server, I know what the job entails. But for the life of me, our server looked like he would rather be ANYWHERE but there. I usually hate to start a review off on a negative note, but he was just too apathetic for me. Siting down, it’s easy to get comfortable, the ambiance is like being in a sleek, Irish or English cottage. I loved the open kitchen. I let the server know I want to take a look at the drink menu before ordering food. He says OK. He then disappears. I have to get the attention of another server after about 10 minutes. We order our food and drinks at the same time because we could see where this is going. I can’t remember the drink I had, but it was very tasty(but took too long to get another one). I had the hanger steak and eggs. The food genuinely was good. the steak was perfectly seasoned and cooked to temperature. As far as my boyfriends plate, he enjoyed it. But he didn’t want the hadge, so he asked the server if he can have a bit more mushrooms in lieu of the hadge. Our server firmly insisted that there are no substitutions, which we understand, but he didn’t offer any alternative — we would’ve been okay with an extra charge. But his tone was was almost stern, so we didn’t even push it. After our food arrived, he pulled another disappearing act. It wouldn’t really bother me if the restaurant was bustling and I could see he was tied up with other tables. We arrived ahead of the brunch rush, and there were maybe 2 – 3 other tables in his section. I ate without a steak knife for quite some time. The server may have seen me struggling or just remembered, and wordlessly dropped it on the table. For the whole duration of the meal, he failed to check up on us or ask us if we needed anything. I relied on other servers who were more than happy to assist. The service was so bad, towards the end of my meal I waved the server over and told him that the food was really good, but his attitude was just off-putting. And he looked like he could care less. Maybe he was having a bad day, but that’s still not an excuse when you are an extension of the restaurant. Like I said, I hate to be so negative, especially since the food was SOGOOD. As a tourist, I specially chose to dine at Raven & Rose, and left disappointed with mixed feelings.

If the length is daunting, check out the«Too Long; Didn’t Read» below :3 Ohhhh… Raven and Rose. We had high hopes for this establishment. I absolutely love the name — it sounds very elegant and expensive [both of which perfectly reflect the building and food], and the interior feels very Irish-y… but in a very ritzy way. It’s a weird dichotomy. My travel partner and I ended up stopping at this restaurant during their Sunday Brunch, so he could get a mimosa and something tasty. We came in from the very rainy outside, and were greeted by someone who seemed all too put out by us. And this feeling continued throughout our entire meal… maybe we weren’t dressed as upscale enough, or we looked too young or whatever, but neither of us felt welcomed or wanted here, and felt very much out of place. True to most Irish/British food I’ve experienced, the selection is not very Vegetarian friendly [Even for Portland]. Which is fine. I was only going in to get my friend his share of meat before we moved onto a veggie-friendly place for myself. I was offered by the server an option of drinks, and without looking at the menu, I decided on the Irish Coffee. It was $ 11. And very small. A very small $ 11 drink. Don’t get me wrong, it was tasty and very smooth… but it was more highly priced that I deem necessary. I would have felt even more awkward just sitting there while my friend ate, so I also awkwardly ordered a side of their Country Toast and Jam. My friend sided with the Full American Breakfast. As toast and jam goes, theirs was extremely tasty. They were out of my go-to bread choice — wheat, so I had to stick with white, but I was not unhappy with only snacking on this. It’s definitely in my top list of toasts I’ve had… which is a weird list to have or even think of because toast is such a common occurrence. So that says something. Meanwhile, my friend was not extremely impressed with his meal. The bacon he tried and then moved off to the side, whereas the sausage had a little more movement into his stomach. Keeping in mind, the entire time we were eating, we felt extremely awkward and totally unwanted there. [And it wasn’t busy at all. There were 3 other small pairs of people scattered around]. When the bill came, the best part of the meal came with it as well. The house-made caramels. Whew! They were also on my list of top caramels I’ve consumed. I give big high fives to Raven and Rose for their toast and caramels! Overall, I felt the experience to be a poor one, especially compared to other places we tried and experienced while in Portland. I think this mainly comes from feeling like our business was not wanted. That being said, I would probably give this place another shot — not in the main restaurant area, but in the Rookery Bar [but where it is in the building — I have no idea. upstairs/downstairs/around the corner/speakeasy through a book shelf?]. The Happy Hour looks like it would be fun, with better priced drinks and yummier vegetarian-friendly options. TL;DR: Raven and Rose is very weird dichotomy of an Irish feeling establishment, and a ritzy restaurant. It’s simple and pretty inside, but fairly [I’d say overly] expensive. It is not very vegetarian friendly, and the employees seemed unimpressed with us, making us feel awkward and out of place the entire time. [We probably looked like soaked cats after coming in from the Jumanji-style Monsoon downpour outside]. The restaurant section I doubt I’ll ever patronize again, but I’d be willing to give the bar a shot… and hope I might be able to get a bigger, more knock-me-down $ 11 drink :)

Stopped in twice, both on Friday evenings to The Rookery Bar upstairs. The first time was great, happy hour and pretty empty, got two drinks off the cocktail menu and the English Chips. No complains, and everything was pretty amazing, hand crafted drinks that you can’t get anywhere else. They really take the time to craft the drinks, which I appreciate! We told ourselves that we definitely needed to stop in again when in the area. The second time we came in after 9pm and it was mildly busy. Ordered a cocktail off the menu, a brew, and the English Chips again. Things started to pick up and the bar got pretty busy, I could tell they were hustling. I’m pretty sure they forgot our order of Chips, when the gentlemen next to us, who sat down 10 minutes after we arrived, received a whole meal before our order even came out. After I asked where our order was, it came out shortly after. After I finished my first drink, I attempted to order off the menu, and the bartender told me they had sold out of that drink item. I proceeded to order a drink not on the menu since nothing was appealing to me, and I had her attention, which I did not want to lose. She obliged, asked the head bartender if they had my ingredients. He said yes, asked what for, she told him and he said, «Are you F**king kidding me?» You would have thought I had ordered piss in a glass. After that comment, and after I drank my piss, we left. I understand you make specialty cocktails, but please don’t act like I’m the problem, ordering a drink not on the menu, when you run out of ingredients for your cocktails. For such a classy drink list, atmosphere, and location you sure acted tacky. Third time might be a charm, I do still like this place a lot, just never thought the rudeness of asking for a different cocktail would be there. Just be aware of the attitude you might get if you order something not on thier menu. Sheesh.

This is a really unique place. I liked it a lot. I was upstairs in the rookery, and ordered the ploughman’s lunch, the toasted nuts, and a drink that I can’t remember the name(But it had coconut milk and was delicious) The service was excellent, the place was clean, and well kept. I enjoyed the kick back, mellow atmosphere. I will definitely come here again when I am in Portland next!

Upstairs, the comfy couches, the friendliness of the mixologist and staff, and the cool ambience makes me feel like I’m part of the original rat pack. It’s vibe is classy, smooth, and chill. I haven’t had a bad drink there, and their blueberry cheesecake will blow your socks off(if you’re stuffy enough to be wearing socks in this cool demeanored atmosphere). Sit back, enjoy live music, silent movie above the fireplace mantle, and watch for Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, Dean Martin or Sammy Davis Jr haphazardly wander upstairs.

I had my first Portland meal at Raven & Rose and was looking forward to it as the reviews for it were very high. My friend and I dropped in at around 5PM for dinner and the first thing I noticed about the venue was how empty it was. It was elegantly decorated and reminded me of an upscale whiskey bar. The items on the menu were quite limited and not very vegetarian friendly. My friend opted for the cauliflower soup and I got the fried rabbit and mash potatoes. At around $ 32 I expected some good quality rabbit but I didn’t even get mediocre rabbit I got rubbery rabbit. It was very difficult to remove it from the bone and once I did, its texture was off and it wasn’t pleasant to chew. A croissant of sorts was placed in the middle of the dish surrounded by gravy and the rabbit. Because the rabbit was unsatisfactory I ate almost all of the croissant though it wasn’t very good either. The mashed potatoes were unfortunately not the dish’s saving grace. They were almost watery, very light in texture and tasted boxed. The cole slaw taste was off as well. It was an odd mix of sweet and bland. As for my friend’s cauliflower soup, she said it tasted more like creamed corn than cauliflower. We ate as much of our meals as we could handle out of hunger rather than pleasure. At one point during the meal, my friend noticed that there was a bug in her water. When she pointed that out to the waiter he looked at it curiously and did not apologize. His reaction was very strange as was the service we received all night. This restaurant came with very high reviews and unfortunately did not live up to them. While the décor is nice, the food isn’t very palatable and I couldn’t imagine recommending this place to my friends who visit Portland.

What a beautiful building and décor! The staff was equally impressive — great suggestions and very attentive. We ordered 3 items and spilt them — the flatbread(amazing and wanted to order another!), fish and chips(batter was awesome and def recommend!) and the hanger steak(tasty but my least fav of the 3). And I will have to say their French fries was some of the best I’ve ever had! Every one perfectly crunchy! My First meal in Portland was def a success!

I happened to drive by Raven and Rose, thanks to Siri getting me home a different route than usual(due to heavy traffic) My husband and I came another night for Happy Hour and after a brief explanation of the restored Ladd Mansion by the well dressed sweet host we were directed upstairs to the bar. Fabulous! There was a wonderful buzz and the bar was full of happy(and young!) people. We were shown an empty table and were delighted by the small but wonderful menu. No Tanqueray Gin but they substituted Beefeaters and use Fever tree tonic. Delish! I had the Corned Beef popover(they call it Yorkshire) and my husband had the Plowman’s tray loaded with a variety of pickles, meat, pâté, and bread. I only eat french fries out when they are homemade and when I asked our sweet waitress if they were she gave me a big smile and said«from start to finish». They came out hot and perfect! For that alone I’ll return! As we were leaving I noticed the(large) restaurant seemed quite full for a Tuesday night. Loved this little gem!!!

Last minute open table booking before the Blazer game. AWESOME! Service-spectacular Ambience-lively and comfy and rich Food– very good Three of us order the halibut with grilled veggies. Delicious, a little less sauce could lessen the richness of the dish but it was to the side of the plate which made it optional. My husband ordered the chicken. Each of us have the carriage House salad. Nice presentation and even better Flavors. We’ll be back when we want high quality pub food again.

This is a great place to go on a date. Ambiance is smooth and nice on the ground floor. However, there are two floors. The downstairs floor is a little more romantic than the upstairs. Up stairs feels more like the lounge of a ski lodge. There is a full bar, pool table, couches, and a very relaxed feel. Food and drinks are great. Unfortunately I ate there when there was a set menu so I can’t comment on the regular menu, but I can say for certain that the food is great.
