Whether you meet someone new or catch up with an old friend, the talk often turns to what you do for a living. After you say what you do, you are sometimes asked, «If you had it to do over again, would you?» My answer to this, I already did. After getting a bachelor’s degree from the Univ. of Oregon in 2000, I worked in corporate retail for years. I enjoyed my experience and wouldn’t trade it for anything, but I found it lacking in personal connection. I got into dentistry because I wanted to work more directly with people, and do something where I could tangibly measure my ability to benefit others. So, I had it to do over, and dentistry is what I chose. After graduating from OHSU dental school in 2008, I began practicing with my father in Beaverton and have been here ever since. When I’m not working in the office, I enjoy obstacle course races and running, reading, tailgating and watching Oregon Ducks football. I love Dr. Rust and his staff. They are easy to communicate with, great with reminders for appointments, honest and flexible. I don’t feel pushed to add services or get work done that I don’t need.
In addition to providing a great cleaning, Dr. Rust was able to find an inexpensive solution for a cosmetic issue I had been self-​conscious about for years. He and his staff went above and beyond! I owe my smile to them!

I recommend not going to this dentist — there are many good ones all over the place. I took my elderly mom (who has dementia) to Dr. Rodman for years and we were happy, but things changed when Dr. Rust took over. We went once and he wanted to pull one of her teeth right away. When I mentioned that because of her long term use of osteoporosis drugs that previous dentists always did root canals to save her teeth and lessen the risk of osteo necrosis of the jaw, he admitted that he hadn’t looked at her chart. He wasn’t able to find her chart right away, so he said he’d look at it and check with her doctor and call me back. I waited several weeks, did not receive a call, called the office and left a message, still did not receive a call, waited another week, called again, talked to Dr. Rust. and he told me that he was going to contact her doctor again because he wasn’t sure if he’d actually done it yet. Huh? Originally he was in a hurry to pull the tooth, but obviously not in a hurry to do the necessary checking. I’ve never heard back; this was months ago, but I guess he realized that he’d lost us by that time — or maybe he doesn’t want patients who have dementia. Needless to say, we started over with a new dentist who we like much better; this one saw no reason at all to pull the tooth — it had a little chip in it, but no infection, and it wasn’t bothering her. Also, her partial dentures attached to it and she would probably have had to have new ones made — really not a good thing for someone with dementia — which a good dentist would realize.

I’ve been going here for 5 – 6 years. Loved Dr. Rodman and I love Dr. Rust as well. I had a filing a few weeks ago, the scheduling was easy and flexible. The actual procedure was great, I didn’t feel a thing, and Dr. Rust gave me a few breaks when I needed it. The staff is lovely, and I trust Dr. Rust. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a dentist.

I loved Dr. Rodman, so when he retired and Dr. Rust took over the practice, I was anxious (I have a little dental anxiety to begin with). However, he has turned out to be just as good!
He’s friendly and knowledgable and takes as much time is needed to explain things until you are comfortable.
I also appreciate his conservative approach — he wants to preserve as much of your tooth as he can and doesn’t try to «upsell» you into treatments you don’t need.
I will definitely continue to go to Raleigh Park Dental and recommend them to my friends.

Dr. Rodman is great– really friendly and informative. I have no complaints about him.
Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the staff. I have bad dental anxiety and paid extra to have laughing gas during my cleaning. The hygienist told me I didn’t «need» it and made a big deal. Since I was paying for it, I have no idea why she cared so much.
The only reason we go here specifically is because Dr. Rodman offers the sonic cleaning where the scraping is minimal. On more than one occasion, the staff has made a big deal about doing that kind of cleaning rather than traditional. If they hate it that much, they shouldn’t work in an office that does it!
I switched to Sleep Dentistry of Portland because they are much better at dealing with people with dental anxiety. Pro tip for Dr. Rodman’s staff: if a patient says they want gas and will pay for it, let them have it without rude remarks!
