History

Established in 1987.

Rains | Birchard Marketing was formed in 2010 when Jon Rains and Matthew Birchard assumed ownership of Rains Marketing, LLC. As an agency, we trace our roots back to 1987 when Jon’s father, Gary Rains, founded Rains Marketing.

Jon began working for the agency in 1992, helping transition a traditional advertising agency into the digital age by creating the agency’s first websites.

Matt was hired in 2002 as an Account Manager, and eventually assumed the role of General Manager. When Gary Rains began planning for retirement, transitioning the business to his son and long-​time trusted employee was the perfect exit strategy.

Meet the Business Owner

Matthew B.

Business Owner

Matt holds a Bachelor of Arts from Portland State University in Marketing and Advertisement Management. His entire professional career has been spent working for Portland advertising and marketing firms.

In 2002, he joined Rains Marketing as an Account Executive. Matt has been instrumental in helping the agency’s clients find solutions to marketing challenges through the implementation of strategy and tactics based upon sound theory and measurable creative executions.

Since assuming the role of General Manager and becoming a partner in the agency, the firm’s name was changed to reflect Matt’s leadership role. Matt is primarily responsible for the day-​to-​day operations of the agency along with new business development though he continues to work with select agency accounts.

Matt is happily married, a recent father and resides on the East side of Portland.
