Nice store with lots of tchotchkes… For its size, it has a good cookbook selection. Seriously snippy service, though. The cashier had daggers in her eyes. What did I do?

We come to Portland every other year and for some reason, I have never shopped at this store. My loss. This store made me smile. BIG smiles. It’s filled with a lot of cute items you can buy for yourself or as gifts. Things like reusable shopping bags. GOODQUALITY reusable shopping bags. The kind that don’t rip by the 10th use. They have stationary, cookbooks, nickknacks, small kitchen items, gardening tools, unique toys for both kids and adults. I bought my friend a packet of handwipes that said, «You make me laugh so hard I pee my pants.» That made me laugh. Any store that makes me smile and feel good has my business. This is on my «must return to» list for our next Portland vacation.

I think home and garden things are more interesting than books to me. I was in here for a really really long time browsing all the cool stuff they had. I didn’t know there were more than 2 powells besides the 2 in downtown.

When is the last time you spent hours in a bookstore, let alone with kids? I’m so sick of everyone’s faces glued to smart phones. Hanging out in Powells was completely refreshing. We were 10 people, aged 8 to 43, all with different interests and we were completely entertained browsing shelves, hunting for books and climbing stairs. Staff is super helpful. Café isn’t bad either, with very good espresso!

Love this book store. It could be overwhelming due to the size, but if you take a little at time it’s manageable. They have good sales and just about any book you could imagine. Coffee shop is good as well. We make a trip here each time we come to see family.

Found some great cookbooks for my four year old nephew who has recently been helping more in the kitchen. And some great gardening books for my sister in law. There are also a lot of gift items for the house and the more standard powell’s(the smaller Hawthorne location) is just a store or two down the street. Between the two all your gift giving needs will be met!

I LOVE this place. So many great things in this store. I could spend hours in here and not be bored! They have so many cutesy things for gifts, around the house, as well as books and their usual stuff at the regular book store. One of my favorite stores ever.

I already liked Powell’s books, so a more specialized version can’t be bad, right? I was actually looking for a gift and besides books on cooking, gardening and home related ones, they have some cool gift items and interesting toys for kids and non-kids alike. I found a cool bamboo car for my daughter, but I really wasn’t shopping for her at the time. There were some interesting cookbooks that I saw. Some on desserts that were appealing. The prices were good as well. It was also cool that it was connected to Pastaworks next door. Very cool grocery, although pricy. When I have more time to wander, I shall.

Seriously awesome! Anything you need for your home or garden from garden Gnomes to candles… owned by Powell’s, and connected to Pastaworks? It really doesn’t get much better than this!

I love love love this location. It’s like Powell’s, but specifically for homey stuff. They have tons of cookbooks, craft books, gardening books, etc. They also have a lot of cutesy kitchen utensils, decorations, candles, and all other knick knacks. I can easily spend an hour here browsing around. Also, don’t forget to check out their clearance section. The last time I went there, I ended up grabbing seven cookbooks for around $ 20. Quite a steal, I must say!

I love this location! So cute! Great for gifts! Stocking stuffers, kids books, trinkets, original cooking related things, home and garden books and supplies! Great clearance in the back and if you don’t find what you need there’s another Powells 2 stores down!

This is a completely separate store for the home and garden with tons of cook books. The entire store is almost as big as the main location itself. What this location has to it’s advantage is that it is 70% all Kitsch cool gifts. The staff are really super friendly.

Powell’s Books for Home and Garden is an easy place to lose track of time. We have a minor cookbook addiction and this is a great place to peruse used and new books. I was pleasantly surprised with their selection of kids and teen cookbooks and loaded my niece up with books, cooking utensils and an adorable apron from here last year. Their selection of gardening and landscaping books is equally impressive. Powell’s Home and Garden is a fantastic place to get affordable, home inspired gifts for that fantastic cook or gardener in your life, or just a spot to spoil yourself. Just be sure to set a time limit. I swear it was summer when I entered and when I lost so much track of time that when left it was fall. Nope, never mind, that’s just Portland weather. :)

This is quite possibly one of my favorite spots in SE — with tons of new and used options… home, garden, and a random assortment of knick knacks and party tricks. I love the card selection, and I’m always intrigued by the kitchen tools. If only I had a few more hours and extra dollars to spend even more here!

Good place for Christmas shopping. It’s a lot of specialty stuff, like soap, aprons and knick knacks for the home but also any book dealing with home and garden, cook books, nature books… I usually don’t book shop here, I look at everything else. Ice cube trays, jewelry trays, measuring cups, dish towels, etc. They have some jewelry that reflects the personality of most women I know(moms, girlfriends). It’s different and better in some ways than the giant powell’s downtown. Parking is street only so find a way to walk there.

I didn’t manage to get through more than two aisles of cookbooks at this Powell’s location, but I am notoriously slow in bookstores and a notorious fiend for cookbooks. Basically I like to think I am more notorious than I am, but Powell’s + cookbooks = love. I just wish they had more used and older books!

I got a couple exciting new kitchen tools, dutch ovens specifically, and was looking for an awesome cookbook to give me fabulous ideas. I love this store for that. I sent hubby and princess to the toy store down the street and bought myself an hour of freedom(and silence) to browse the cookbooks, gardening books(okay, I got off track a little) and the cute kitchen tools they have in here. They have awesome gifty things too, pretty scarves, little cute boxes, adorable stuff. Christmas doodads were on clearance. I didn’t buy any of those, but I wanted to. I enjoy this store and like that it’s connected to Pastaworks just in case I’m so inspired I need to goimmediately purchase some food thing to make a cool new recipe. Fun times.

I’ve come to love this Powell’s location almost as much as their big store in the Pearl. The selection is fabulous, and will make you wonder how they knew what you wanted(before you even knew!). The staff is always great, perhaps they’re aware that they have awesome jobs. :-) Magazine area is a little tight to browse, but has a decent selection. Hawthorne is a great neighborhood, and a perfect place to waste away an afternoon.

This is what my personal library will look like at some point later in life. I already have accrued a collection of amazing cookbooks, with some thanks to Powell’s. Powell’s reminds me of Green Apple Books because the staff write little blurbs to share their opinion of books. Sometimes when I’m trying to figure out what to buy because I have already so many books in my hand, the explanations help me sway my opinion one way or the other. I ended up walking away with a Japanese Cooking book that I absolutely love(it’s more like a textbook) because it shows pictures of rare Japanese ingredients and equipment that I otherwise would be scared to use. Prices are great(I got my book for $ 9.95), and staff are friendly. I could spend hours and hours here.
