We are a small, independent, two-woman owned business that was started out of a love for language and a desire to help parents connect, bond and communicate with their children.
History
Established in 2006.
Portland Early Learning Project was founded in 2006 by two speech-language pathologists who shared a love for language, children and families.
In their professional practice, Christina Schabow & Kara DeGiovanni had both had wonderful success in using American Sign Language signs with children who had speech and language delays. They decided it would be fabulous to share this gift with families who have children of all abilities and thus PELP was born. Within the first year, Kara’s love for the Spanish language and her skills as a bi-lingual Spanish/English speaker teaching in Argentina led to the natural addition of Spanish classes for children to our line-up.
Over the past four years, PELP has grown so much. We have had the joy of teaching hundreds of children and families and have a wonderful, family-like team of amazing teachers.
