Port Property Management

Just to offset all the one star reviews I gotta say this company was fine. I rented from them downtown– they were responsive when anything needed to be fixed. They kept the building clean. I had no problem with them at all. Would not hesitate to recommend renting from them, at least at the Eastern Prom location I was at.

They don’t care about anything. They don’t enforce any of their own rules. Loud noise late at night and drug use are fine. You can routinely find their own employees smoking cigarettes in no smoking areas. What a joke

I currently rent with Port Property. I’ve had many concerns from the beginning, but today, they pissed me off one too many times. Right now, I’m sitting in my adorable one-​bedroom in the West End watching one of their employees spray round-​up all over the «weeds» in the parking lot and sidewalk. Have you ever walked the brick sidewalks of the west end? Yeah, they ALL have grass growing in the cracks which adds to the character of the neighborhood. I can understand wanting to maintain their property, as they should, but we are talking about grass that is ¼″ high. Other than that, we’re surrounded by asphalt. Not really weed central over here.
None of the tenants received any kind of warning about this being done and many of us own dogs which we walk through that very parking lot, daily. Low doses of this herbicide can cause liver damage, birth defects, brain cancer, breast cancer, cancer in general, autism, Alzheimers, etc.
I just got a call back from one of their employees about my concern and all she had to say was that round up is commonly used in yards and they have been instructed by the owner to maintain the property this way. She said she would forward my concern to the owner. We’ll see… Until then, we’ll all be subjected to their chemical poisoning without notice or apology, because, hey it’s just our home, right?
FYI — this is the manner in which they deal with their tenants. The rest of the bad reviews you’ve read are true. Most of the people in the office are sweet but they are working for ruthless owners who could care less about their tenants. The people in the rental department are the rudest people I’ve ever dealt with. As a worker in the service industry, it baffles me that these people can’t understand basic courtesy. They are happy to hang up on you when you try to make appointments. They will tell you not to even bother seeing certain apartments as it will be a ‘waste of their time’. They show your apartment without proper notice, which recently happened to a friend of mine. When they purchase buildings, they completely disregard the needs of the current tenants (which is the case in my building and why almost all of them have been forced out). In general, they are just out to make money and could care less that there are actual human beings living in their buildings. Yes, they manage/​own most of the rentals in Portland but avoid them if you can!

DO NOT lease an apartment with this company!!! I have only been with them three months and I have had a horrible experience so far. First, I had an unauthorized person enter my place a multiple times and take things. My door had been locked on all occasions. Port Property said they collected all of the previous tenant keys and were not responsible, so I had to pay $ 100 to have the locks changed! Second, there is a spot at the apt complex in front of the dumpster big enough for two cars to park there for unloading purposes. I parked there once to unload a microwave (2 min) and I was towed by a company at the request of port property. I asked them about it and port property said they would not do nothing about it and that we were taking risks parking there. Pretty much everyone in the building has been towed multiple times. The managers at Port Property told me that we are expected to find street parking not only to bring big things up, but also for an initial move in/​move out. I generally have to walk 3 blocks when I unload groceries. There’s no reason for it. Trash pickup happens once a week. Completely unreasonable but right on par with how they treat their clients. Lastly, they do not keep up with cleaning of the common areas. The hallways and laundry room don’t look or smell like they’ve been cleaned since I moved in. It’s just gotten dirtier and dirtier. In three months, I haven’t heard or seen evidence of a person cleaning any common area. Gross! Don’t make the same mistake I did… stay away.

I have been renting from Port Property Management for almost a year. The staff was friendly, showed up and helped us find a place in the area we wanted and with in our budget. Our unit was clean, freshly painted and with new hardwood floors. When ever we have had a maintenance issue their staff is in our unit the next business day to fix the issue. They are prompt with dealing with issues with the apartment building and its tenants. I would recommend them to others looking to move to Portland and the surrounding area.

We have tried countless times to see a place with them and finally got an appointment to look at some places. Day before our set time, I get a cancelation voicemail. Not only that, but they pretty much said there wasn’t anything else to look at, despite a daily updated website. Not worth us wasting anymore of our time on some of the rudest people I’ve tried doing business with.

I’ve tried to start writing this review like 3 times and can’t seem to quite put into words just how ridiculous dealing with Port Property Management is, …and I’m not even a tenant.
Where do I even begin? I could write about how trying to speak to a live human on the phone is like going on a wild goose chase.
Or I could write about how when we mentioned our lease was ending at the end of the year we were told «oh…well if you can’t move in right away we’re not going to show it to you», and then when we let them know (by voicemail, surprise) we were able to get a more flexible lease term, they replied by email with «if this is true, call us to schedule an appointment»…yeah ’cause we’d totally lie about that…
Or I could talk about how when we inquired about the most expensive apt they have, instead of a friendly «sure when would you guys like to schedule a walk-​through?» we got curtly grilled about our income and other pre-​qualifying questions.
Unfortunately, we did qualify and so our appointment was set, with someone we hadn’t talked to or met before who we were instructed to dial for at the door when we arrived.
So we came up for our appointment. From Boston. Got there right on time. Rang at the door as instructed and waited.
Nothing.
Cut to us stuck in the entryway for 15 minutes leaving voicemails at the intercom with a 3 second window to say who we were and why we were there. About ready to give up, we finally called their main office, went through all the phone instructions AGAIN, left a voicemail AGAIN, no response. Called again and got through to someone and they were like «oh… :nonchalant laughter: hm let me check and see, it must be Monday!» YEAH… it must be Monday that we took off from work to come see your crappy apartment! SO FUNNY! lololol!
Turns out the agent we talked to never communicated with the other girl that we had an appointment. Gahhhhhhh.
Finally a guy came to let us in and was like «sorry, we had no idea you had an appointment. Katrina was in here signing a lease with someone so she didn’t get the door».
I felt bad for him because he was nice and it was clear he was really embarrassed.
The unit itself was ‘renovated’, with crooked, creaky floors. You could tell they tried to do the surface-​level things people look for like stainless steel whatnot and ceramic tile, but at this point nothing could redeem this train wreck of an experience.
To put icing on the cake, when we were leaving we were like «so are there any other units available that we could take a look at?» (we’re gluttons for punishment, apparently) and were taken to meet the mysterious Katrina who was sitting at her desk not signing a lease with anyone, and were immediately asked «how much money do you make?»
No «oh hi guys! I’m so sorry things got mixed up, want to have a seat and talk about what you’re looking for?» etc.
My husband was like «um…:shock/awkward moment: that’s personal but, um… ‘enough’…I mean we’re not looking for an income restricted unit if that’s what you’re getting at.» (hadn’t we been through that in order to even see the unit we’d just seen??) and then she was like «oh… yeah we don’t have anything, sorry!» and that was it. There was no «but we manage a zillion properties in the Portland area, would you like me to take your information down and let you guys know if anything opens up?» It seems like they really don’t care if they get business or not.
We left flabbergasted. If attempting to deal with them as a tenant is even a fraction as difficult and frustrating as attempting to deal with them as a prospective tenant, I pity the poor souls that are trapped in leases with these people. It was so unprofessional from start to finish. I read the Unilocal reviews beforehand and wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt but I don’t doubt any of these claims now.
Thankfully, these guys like, strapped on the bullet proof vests and pushed us out of the way from the steaming bullet of nightmares we would be sure to get shot with if we rented with them. Unfortunately it looks like others haven’t been so lucky.

If I could rate a zero star I would.
Port Property is by far the worst, non-​professional apartment management company I have ever dealt with. And I am from Philadelphia where every management company is somewhat corrupt.
They lie about things in their Craigslist ads. I was told I had laundry on the premise and did not. I also had people dealing drugs on the first floor that they did nothing about.
It’s just plain shady and they milk you for all you are worth.
I just got out of their claws, and I have never been happier. I just wish someone would have told me the truth and avoided numerous headaches from them. Just passing this along. Along with the other reviews, do your research. The other review says it perfectly… they care more about how much profit they can crank out even if it’s shady than the happiness of their tenants.

Like the other reviewer stated, do the research. My girlfriend lived in a Port Property Management apartment for two years. The place was okay, except for the terrible ant problem that they never took care of and they came into the apartment without giving 24 hour notice (illegal).
Plus now they are trying to screw her over by charging her for damages that were not her fault and existed when she moved into the apartment.

I would STRONGLY recommend you do your research on this company before you decide to sign on a dotted line and do business with them.
If you do decide to do business with them be sure to send all rent checks via CERTIFIED MAIL, they like to lose things such as: Rent checks, 60 day notices to terminate your lease in an attempt to lock you in, keep you security deposit, and keep paying monthly rent until the apartment re-​rents.
They will enter your apartment without 24hrs notice (required by law). I had to purchase a CCTV camera to record these events. Their leasing agents will not provide you with proper notice to enter to show your unit when you are moving out. They don’t care that you just got out of the shower. They will also make false statements to police officers stating that you «came at them».
Maintenance is HORRIBLE. I wouldn’t be surprised if half of their properties are up to code.
They OVERCHARGE for rent. you can do better. It’s not worth the headaches of taking them to court. (even if you win an out of court settlement against them). Just find another company to rent from.
