The PCC Cascade Campus Bookstore ranks low on my list. I had one book buying experience here and that was enough for me to make an effort to purchase my books elsewhere. It seems they have a problem with theft at this bookstore. They don’t let you bring a school bag into the store, and you are not allowed to go back and get your own books from the shelves. It wasn’t even the busiest days in the beginning of the term and it took a long time to get to my name on the signup sheet. The gentlemen who was helping me was not especially great at navigating the shelves. I had to actually point out where my book was located. *sigh* The checkout line was a little long, but they were able to get through the line in a reasonable amount of time. They do have pens. highlighters, scantron forms, and other random school supplies which can be useful if you run out of something while on campus. I know that book sales can be important for a school to bring in additional funds. It’s just so hard to get behind a bookstore that charges so much for textbooks. The books are often special PCC editions so ordering them online is much harder(not impossible). They also don’t tend to buy back many books at the end of the term. Lucky for me I am a ninja at finding low priced books from the internet.

It sucks when they are out of the essentials. It seems like they mostly focus on the beginning of the school year and forget that people need supplies all quarter. For a better snack selection there is a convenient store across the street.

Middle of the term, they’re still out of highlighters. Out of 50% of their pens. The entire staff, manager included, stand around, loudly talking about total bullshit instead of doing anything that might resemble work. I’m amazed that they get paid. If you want to study the actions of amateurs, this would be a great place. Otherwise, it’s a complete waste of time and an embarrassment to the school.

Out of the three PCC Bookstore locations, the one on Cascade campus falls far behind the other two. Good luck trying to call them– they never seem to answer the phone. Recently I tried calling them during normal business hours. On more than one occasion, the line rang several times on the first call, then went to voice mail. When I tried calling back a few minutes later, the line did not ring at all, but went straight to voice mail. To me, that seems to indicate that someone had taken the phone off the hook, which is completely unacceptable. I understand the bookstore gets busy at the beginning of the term, but I have never had this kind trouble reaching the Rock Creek or Sylvania bookstores. In addition, the customer service I’ve witnessed in person at this location could use serious improvement. In general, employees seem to be less available to help students locate books than they are at the other locations. This bookstore needs to get it’s act together.
