Specialties
We feature raw organic nuts, seeds, berries, wildcrafted seaweeds, cacao, dates, and much more, including local artisanal handcrafted fare. Items are purchased monthly through our website and distributed in a few locations around town.
We research our items and the farms they are coming from, ensuring the highest quality product grown and processed in earth-friendly ways.
Items are refrigerated as soon as they come in, ensuring the highest level of freshness and vitality by getting your goods into your hands and in your pantry within a few days.
As a monthly buying club, we only order what you order, cutting down on waste in transportation, storage, and expired product!
History
Established in 2009.
Local nutritionist Andrea Nakayama of Replenish PDX approached us at our farmers’ market booth in the summer of 2009 and asked us to provide nuts and seeds for her clients with an eye towards quality, freshness, and price. Sourcing the highest-quality nuts, seeds, seaweeds, and berries was something we had a passion for, and we love the buying club model for its efficiency and lack of waste in all aspects of store-keeping. Three months later, the Pantry had its first shipment and we’ve grown through word of mouth every month since!
Meet the Business Owner
Brion O.
Business Owner
With Our Community Pantry, Brion melds over twenty years of passion for whole foods with his experience with distribution networks and education, delivering both food and information to OCP members each month. Brion left his position as Assistant Deli Manager at New Seasons — Happy Valley to start his business The Raw Matrix selling pre-packaged raw meals and desserts at farmers’ markets and in grocery co-ops around Portland. A local raw foods event planner and community organizer, Brion also sold premium-quality dry goods under the Raw Matrix label, and had the connections, experience, and certified kitchen to respond to the call for a local source for distributing highest-quality raw organic nuts, seeds, berries, and seaweeds. As the Pantry has grown, he has added in many of the items that used to be sold under the Raw Matrix label and now shares his time between serving the OCP community and sponsoring events through The Raw Matrix and the Living Raw in Portland meetup group.
