Orox Leather

I went down to the shop the other day because a friend of my wife had bought one of their phone cases and highly recommended them. As I am a bit of a hobbyist, with an interest in leatherworking, I thought I would check them out, as I was running another leather related errand down the street. Props for immediately greeting me at the door (with a compliment no less!) I chatted with Kevin and with José. Both were very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. But it is the product that really shone. If Orox was a restaurant, they would be the kind that selected only the best in seasonal, local and sustainably grown ingredients… and then got out of the way to let those ingredients shine. Their Japanese inspired minimalism highlights the quality of their materials, such as the much coveted Horween leather from Chicago. The 110 year old tannery is highly respected and generally considered the best in the country by leatherists and Etsy fetishists both here and around the world. The bags were soft and pliable, while clearly being heirloom quality. I even preferred them to my wife’s bag from the famous Scuola del Cuoio in Florence. I will note I did not buy anything (yet) as the items are (deservedly) pricey. Orox goods are not impulse buys, but the kind of goods that you consider carefully and last generations. We are lucky to have this family business here in our good city.

Stunning craftsmanship. I got an Orox wallet as a gift, and I just love it. The leather is gorgeous, it’s so well made, I think it’ll outlive me. If you find yourself in Portland, it’s fun to visit the store. They’re really nice in there, and all the purses, bags, wallets are absolutely gorgeous. Spoil yourself, and take a piece home.

I was visiting Portland a few days ago and accidentally found this shop. This is a shop with passion. Excellent craftsmanship on everything I looked at. I bought my girlfriend an international long wallet wich she loved when I surprised her.

First of all, this was such a nice find. I hadn’t heard about Orox until a friend of mine showed me her bag she bought from them. I perused their website and was convinced that I would finally invest in a good quality leather item.
I went in one day to browse for my friend in San Diego. I spoke with one of the boys working there (Jose was working hard at the other side of the store) who gave me lots of information on their products. I asked if I could snap some photos to send to my friend (they said it was OK). I ended up walking away with a bag of my own.
The Viator Tote (in black) is amazing: half wax (waterproof) canvas, half leather. It is large and has two large pockets inside that fits a laptop. The strap is nice leather and can handle the weight. It’s perfect for school or work.
I’d seen their other products at other stores (MadeHere) before and really admired the quality of their leather and canvas. Unlike the other brands sold at MadeHere, there’s a stark difference in the canvas with Orox that I like more.
Overall, it was such a great experience getting to know their process and understanding how well their materials hold up. I signed up online for 10% off and asked if it could apply to my in-​store purchase (10% off for online purchases), which I’m glad it did. I also got an orange pouch that’s perfect to carry my lunch in!
I recommend this place. I say visit the other leather places but really take your time and get something here. Their goods speak for the work Jose puts into making them, plus the fact that this is a family business makes buying from them so much more fun! Thank you!

This store is the greatest! The owner and employees are some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet and we had a great conversation with them while we were there. If you’re looking for some high quality leather products and great costumer service, this is the place to go.

So let me first say that I have not bought anything from here yet, but I will surely do so in the near future!
Right now, my boyfriend and I are apartment hunting in Portland, as we are moving from LA. One day, while exploring the city, we came across OROX.
When we walked in, we were immediately greeted by one of the craftsmen who explained that everything in the store was made right there behind the counter! Very cool!
When I told him that we were on a strict traveling budget and would not be able to purchase anything today, he did not treat me differently or try to get me to buy something. He was just super nice!
After I questioned him, he explained to us that this trade has been passed down from several generations and that the other people working on leather right behind the counter were his dad and brother!
In addition to this being one of those awesome family-​owned small business run by tradition and passion, the product is dope too!
They carry everything from wallets to dog leashes to iPhone accessories. And they are able to engrave it for you as well.
Although I’m not the type of gal who can be buying from there often, o will definitely be back to buy my dog a collar once I move here in the fall. This place is awesome and I would feel great about purchasing from this wonderful small business!

I happened upon Orox last year and was really impressed with the quality of their products. I fell in love with their messenger bag but held out until my trip this June and picked one up. This bag (and surely any other in their line) are heirloom quality and made locally. It’s hard to find such craftsmanship.

Awesome craftsmanship, great family vibe. Such a refreshing experience compared to so many business in the northwest. I wish I had given them a chance sooner, I will be back and singing their praises to my friends in the meantime. Amazed that

I bought a leather wallet from this company. I must say I’m disgusted with how mine turned out, having owned it for a year. Living in portland and knowing the weather it’s a givin that it will endure water damage. I paid 90 $ dollars and it it looks like something I bought a goodwill.

I have sandals from Orox and they are without a doubt the best shoes I have ever owned. I did a lot of research and saved up before making this purchase. I couldn’t be happier with the results! This is one of my favorite places in Portland to buy leather goods. I was impressed by how well they broke in; there was no painful first two week period like there normally is with leather shoes. As far as customer service and attention to detail, I was handled with the utmost care and respect, and also offered a warranty. I can’t wait to get more shoes from here next year.

I was looking for Hand Eye Supply in the Chinatown area, when I happened upon Orox Leather. Martin Martinez and his crew were super friendly when I stopped in to look around at their old school leather offerings. This is yet another high quality Portland design place that the Rose City excels so well. I ended up with a nice leather accented storage bag and mental note to get on their mailing list.

everyone was really nice, and the guys working in the shop are more than happy to stop what they’re doing to help answer questions about their products.
they have a lot of really interesting things in there — some really cool key chains/​tethers, belts, bags, shoes, wallets, even soccer balls and footballs!
they are pricey (i got a wallet for about $ 60), but their goods are quality.
they use the same kind of leather as Red Wing, and are all dedicated to quality. the shop is owned and operated by the Martinez brothers, and they’re all in there working hard on their goods.
there was this one guy in there that seemed completely out of place… clearly not one of the brothers, and i wasn’t sure what his role was in there b/​c the was the only one not working on something… so… that was kind of weird…
but other than that, really great leather products, and really great service! just don’t be shocked at the prices O_​O

This place is cooler than cool. When we first happened upon it, it was closed. I figured it was a hipster-​y place.
But, when we finally got a chance to stop in we realized it was the real deal! They have old school leather artisans making the products right there in front of you. Marking off notches in a belt or making straps for the bags. It was so incredible!
It’s all high quality leather from Portland. The prices are a tad high, but you know it will last forever. They are super friendly too.
There are belts, wallets, tech cases, bags, adjustable sandals, hats, and more. All made with thick quality leather and some with waxed canvas with leather accents.

I visited Orox for First Thursday when they featured a Portland small business, Soul River. The items Orox offers are definitely high-​end, hand-​made goods. This store made me feel like I had stepped back into Italy… very boutiquey and beautiful items. I would suggest checking out their sandals for the summer… they are gorgeous and, apparently last for a few summers!

I stopped in when I noticed this new leather goods store open. They make all their products in the store, the cutting and sewing area takes up half the store and is in full view of the retail area. In an era of off-​shoring, that’s admirable!
The products are small leather goods, belts, purses, shaving bags, purses, wallets, backpacks, and handled carry bags in leather and canvas. The materials and craftsmanship seems fine. The made-​in-​person in Portland is a fine narrative. Staff is personable and excited about their work. The products are well displayed.
But I have to say the design style is not mine. Portland is fortunate to have a great design community. And there are great design traditions in leather from Northern Italy, Switzerland, Northern Europe and Japan. (We don’t talk about Southern Italian design) Then there is the current rage of New England preppy design sweeping the designosphere. If you put those designs side by side with Orox, and don’t see a difference, then these designs are for you. And if you prefer the Orox design then go for it!
They also have a large selection of air plants — small succulents, for your terrarium and flying planter needs.
