Really love this place, top notch service, great products and they add in some really nice touches that other spas don’t take the time to do. Pricey but worth it if you’re going to pamper yourself.

Danielle is gifted! I visited Maine for a wedding and she made my skin look amazing! I also chose this lovely place based on Unilocal and I am so happy I did. Go to Nine Stones, see Danielle, walk out of there like Friday after work when you won the lottery!

Appointments are easy to book online and they were extremely accommodating. I booked a reservation for my boyfriend’s birthday but had accidentally booked it under my name. No problem, they fixed it just fine and the day of I went and prepaid. The actual massage was amazing as well (from what I was told). Highly recommend.

My wonderful boyfriend gave me a gift package to Nine Stones and I’ve since had two massages there. The first one was for an hour. It was nice, but made note to self to request a windowless room next time, not a room on Commercial Street ~ it was very noisy and too bright.
The second massage for 30 minutes, with Christina, was awesome. She applied just the right pressure (deep as I like it), had all the right moves for my problem areas on back and legs. Also, the windowless room was serenely quiet and ambient lighting only made for a very relaxing atmosphere.
Will definitely request her and that room again!

My husband and I loved our couples massage at Nine Stones. Hannah and Trish were incredible. I loved the hot neck wrap they put on during the massage. It really helped me relax and provided extra relief for my neck. The aromatherapy during the message also added an extra perk. This is a wonderful place!

I am so happy I decided to make an appointment at nine stone to celebrate and sister weekend. When we entered we were led into the peaceful waiting room and after a relaxing wait we were led by the two kind ladies that were doing our pedicures with the hot stone treatment. Monet and Angela did a fantastic job. They were engaging and made our experience delightful. It was by far the best pedicure my sister and I have ever had. My sister was even cured of a hangover while there!!! Can’t beat this place!

I love Nine Stones! I have always enjoyed my time there! It’s a treat to go get a pedi with Mia! She is a sweet and thoughtful person. My last massage was with Ty who was wonderful! I always feel satisfied with all of the people there though, they are all wonderful. Highly recommend

I love getting my nails done by Mia at Nine Stones! First, it’s conveniently located on Commercial St., AND they have free parking-​big bonus! The spa itself is very relaxing. There are only two manicure stations, so it’s not a high-​volume nail factory like so many other places in town. Very quiet and peaceful. Mia does an awesome job, and my shellac manicures last longer than any I’ve had elsewhere. Although it’s a bit pricey, I highly recommend it.

My first pedicure… I am 58 yrs old! Just wanted to do something relaxing for myself. Book your pedi spa with Mia! Excellent!

Out great and good quality products. Place is very clean and comfortable also.
Only reason for 4 stars is the price, if it was just a bit lower this would become my regular nail salon!

So, facials are my thing. I’ve always chosen a facial over a massage, probably because I went to massage school so I’m pretty particular… As for my facial at Nine Stones, I probably will look elsewhere first. Don’t get me wrong, the receptionist was very pleasant, but the space, not relaxing or tranquil. The entrance has the nail room immediately to the right, which is often a very chatty space :) My facial was upstairs, in a very bright, chilly room. When she got to my feet for a quick massage, she gasped at how purple they were (after being under two blankets for 30 min already).
Her techniques were very clinical with quick massage strokes, as if she didn’t really want to focus on the relaxing aspect. She was very informative and knew her stuff, but from many previous experiences, there are plenty of ways to teach your client about product and routine other than talking thru the appointment. I stopped responding at one point to try and relax.
I believe a dimmer space with soothing music (Congo drums didn’t do it for me) and to focus on also relaxing the customer would be a great change for them. Their prices are also pretty exorbitant for what you get in return, being downtown Portland shouldn’t be a selling point because it’s not peaceful.
I may try a different treatment in the future, but as for now, there are plenty of beautiful and quiet spas around town that I’d like to spread the love first :)

I’m only giving nine stones 3 stars because it doesn’t have separate area for relaxing or changing/​locker room area. No bathrobes, no slippers, no showers… We went a half an hour early, expecting to hang out and to experience a total spa feel. We sat for 25 minutes in a co-​ed waiting area, with our street clothes on. We were told to help ourselves to hot tea or water.
We both had massages, which were excellent. But for the price I was expecting a more luxurious spa like experience.

Bliss. Sheer and utter bliss.
My sister-​in-​law, mother-​in-​law, and I went for a girls’ day on vacay. Between the three of us there were spa pedicures, spa manicures, and Swedish massages, and not a frown to be found.
If you’re even considering going to this place, just do it. You won’t regret it.

Despite others’ rave reviews I didn’t have a good experience at Nine Stones. After finally cashing in a holiday gift certificate for my hour of pampering I left unsatisfied. From walking in the door to greeted by no one and then to be told by two or three people someone would help me I felt like I walked into an auto mechanics garage not a spa.
My neuromuscular massage was okay. Technique was fine, pressure was too light, and there just wasn’t a connection where the massage therapist just «knew the spots.» The massage was highly transactional; just going through the motions. The massage therapist was very kind otherwise.
I won’t return to nine stones nor recommend it to others. There are simply better services in town and at better prices.

I’ve been coming here for years! They always have great massage therapists and are located right downtown. The environment is very spa-​like, relaxing and clean. They carry some great products lines, too! If you are looking to pamper yourself (or someone else!) I definitely recommend Nine Stones. They are not the cheapest massage/​spa in town, but are still reasonable.
They have a cute little nail area too, which is nice if you want to do a facial, massage AND manicure/​pedicure!

i go to Nine Stones sometimes for massage and nail treatments. my experience is always really stellar and the staff are very genuine, kind, and attentive human beings. Mia in nails is the nicest, and Pam (the owner) is a very skilled massage therapist. if not for the price point, i’d give 4 stars.
but *why* is it *Sooo* expensive?
i know, many of you say that nice spas are always pricey. fine. except i’ve lived in Boston/​Cambridge and in NYC, and never paid as much for a massage as Nine Stones charges. that said, they offer some really wonderful options for holistic body treatment (also overpriced).
so if you want a nice experience and you don’t care about the price tag, make an appointment here. if you want to save some dough, shop around or consider some independently practicing body workers, there are a bunch in town.

I had my first spa experience here at Nine Stones and now I know what the fuss is about. I had a 60 minute Swedish massage that made transported me to Narnia. Heaven, I tell you, but at a price. My massage was $ 85. Yikes. I was on vacation and willing to splurge, but I wouldn’t pay this much again. The spa was really nice and relaxing and my massage lady/​artist/​engineer was patient and made me feel very comfortable, especially since I have a neck problem. I was worried she’d do something to exacerbate it, but she asked all the right questions and knew just what to do and not do.
Nine Stones also does nails. A quick polish change is $ 20. Where I live, that’s more than the price of a full 30-​minute manicure with a hand massage. Crazy.
And Nine Stones has parking! Huzzah! In this town of unbelievably impossible parking even in the off-​season, a parking lot, however small, is a god-​send.
