After walking past this building several times and not seeing any sign of Newport Seafood Grill, we went inside and asked what happened to it and were told that 3 weeks ago it became Prime Rib & Chocolate Cake, yes that is the name of the new restaurant. It would be VERYHELPFUL if Unilocal would update their information. We ate there, because we were short on time since we were going to concert. We wanted seafood, that was not available, the food and service were good. They only have prime rib and chocolate cake śo if that’s what you want, then go there…

Newport Closed. New restaurant salty ribs, salty soup and chocolate cake. However, service is friendly.

We had very good meals. I had halibut; kids had fish & chips; wife had salmon. Salads were big and good. Service was solid. But, the place ain’t cheap and the food wasn’t «special.» The atmosphere is good. This one probably deserves 3.5.

The waiter, John, was absolutely miserable. He barely went through the motions He is certainly not cut out for the hospitality business. He might do better as a night watchman in an abandoned building. Unfortunately for us, we were a group of 9 and had the tip automatically included. ~ Feeling a bit ripped off and I didn’t even pay the bill. The food was average — which might have been forgiven if the service was better. With so many great places to eat in Portland, you would do better at any one of them or at the food trucks. The only positive is that the restrooms were pretty nice.

Im still drooling over my lunch I had 3 months ago! My husband and I decided to road trip down to Portland for the day and I was really craving seafood. Newport was amazing, letting our pup join us for lunch outside. The food was awesome, and I cannot wait to come back during my next trip south!

My husband and I came here famished after an arduous mall trek looking for new work clothes, and were greeted at the door by a girl with a big smile. We were then quickly ushered to a nice table with a good view, and the current menu features were explained before she left a table. Being that my husband and I are both servers, I can really appreciate a restaurant where the hostess explains the feature items, because sometimes it takes a server if you extra minutes how to get to the table if the restaurant is busy. However, even though it was busy, our server came over right away and was very friendly and knowledgeable. We asked her several questions on the preparation of different menu items and she patiently answered each question thoroughly. … off to a good start.

Great for Happy Hour — ALLDAYSUNDAYS! Their cheeseburger for $ 5.99 was rockin. Spicy house sauce and crispy onions, tons of cheese and topping goodness! Plus their ranch chips are super delicious as well. Several great HH food options including their awesome chowder for less than $ 3 Cheep pints and wells. Good service. Decent relaxing atmosphere. Plus, even though it’s in the Lloyd District it has a parking lot! Bonus for that.

This isn’t the first time I have been here, but this time the service was a joke. When we arrived, we ordered a beer which sat on the counter for over 20 minutes. We wanted one of their rewards card(the signs for them are on every table) and the manager said she’d come help us. 30 minutes later, she came and said she was too busy to help us. On top of this, they really need to know what food they have on hand(especially the 6 – 7 things on their happy hour menu) and not let someone order it. We had to order something else because they were out of the spinach artichoke dip, so we ordered fish and chips. When the food came out, they brought TWO orders of fish and chips. Then when it came to pay, they had both items on the bill. Nice try! Our water glasses sat empty for a long time. Food is good, which is pretty much the only reason I would return.

Not bad, went during an off-hour and service was slow but food was good. It is what it is.

I didn’t like the food at all I had the appetizer platter. The shrimp was watery and calamari was very bland. The seafood dip was also watery. I had Lisa as a waitress and I asked her for tortilla chips for the dip. I seen her push my chips over on the plate with her hand to make room for the salsa. Smh. I can’t believe she did that. She needs some additional training. She also carries the plates with her fingers inside the plates. She gave us bread and butter and had butter on her hand from touching our butter. I will never eat here again.

I love their happy hour! 99 cents for a traditional oyster shooter(choice of raw or crispy oysters with cocktail sauce). The other food items on the happy hour menu are also great!

We’ve been here a few times now, and each time we’ve been disappointed. Either the server has been lost in action or the food is mediocre. And the prices are a bit high. So, put it all together and we’ve decided not to return. It’s just not worth it to spend a lot for food that’s just ok.

Don’t let the name and building fool you– this place isn’t good. After driving past it several times in a recent visit to Portland, I was excited to try Newport Seafood Grill. Oh man, what a mistake! We ordered a plate of sushi and… yuck. The fish was still frozen in the middle, the«crab» was disgusting, and there was basically nothing good about it. Obviously that was a poor choice for sushi… but man, I expected a little better. Later that night I got food poisoning… which I won’t go into detail about. No, no, no. A suggestion: try Yuki or Umi closeby. Both excellent choices for sushi– and trust me, you won’t be disappointed!

I’ve never had dinner here, but happy hour you can’t beat. A glass of wine for $ 3.59, and a good selection of food. Sundays your best day to go for all day happy hour.

Slowly being diminished to a mediocre on a good day restaurant. We used to go there every week or two for their great Happy Hour and dined in the restaurant every few months but the last two menu changes have been unimpressive. The Happy Hour menu has increased in price while the quality has decreased. I was disappointed to see the menu change a few months back and haven’t visited the restaurant in awhile. Finally, after a few months we decided to try it out. Ugh! It was horrible. They used to serve fantastic Sweet Potato Fries. Now they have regular fries with an Andouille Sausage, Bacon, Blue Cheese gravy on top. I might as well been licking a salt block. My tongue was burned by salt. The Shrimp/Parmesan dip was awful as well. It takes like I was eating cheesy ocean water. Very fishy. The bread was a cheap french baguette. They had some great items on their HH menu, but most are gone. Oddly, they have added«sliders» to their menu. Don’t be fooled. It is one slider. I just hope that they get their act together and get back to what made their Happy Hour menu worth the visit. I recommend their management and chefs visit Hopworks learn what a real Happy Hour menu looks like. Sliders mean two sliders and they are more like full size sandwiches for $ 5, and made of high quality in house ingredients. Until then, I’ll skip Newport Grill.

We were staying at a nearby hotel, and, after a long day of wandering the beautiful Rose City, were hoping to find a decent place to eat without having to get in the car. A quick Unilocal search led us to the Newport Seafood Grill. We were not disappointed. Upon arriving, about 6:30PM, the host who greeted us let us know that, if we would like to take advantage of HH, which went for another half hour, we could do so by sitting in the bar. Yay! for HH that goes until 7:00PM. Yay! for the host for letting us know.(The sign on the front door still indicates that the HH only goes until 6:00PM.) So, we sat in a nice comfy booth in the bar. We were hungry for a full meal, so did not take advantage of any of the HH food. However, I did enjoy a nice glass(ok, two nice glasses) of the HH Red for only $ 3.59/each. I opted for the«surf ‘n turf» entrée of Lemon Caper Chicken and Coconut Prawns. When our(very friendly and delightful) server first brought our meals, I thought mine looked a tad small for the price. But, it more than filled me up – to the point that I offered my husband my last, precious, prawn. For his part, he ordered the Salmon Stuffed with Crab and Prawns(and, perhaps Nemo, too; I am not sure); I am sure if he had stopped chewing long enough to comment, he would have said his meal was mighty tasty. In the end, we had a lovely, relaxed meal with good food and good service(and reasonable prices). If we were back in the area, we would be happy to stop in again.

We just went here for lunch, my first time at the NE location. Overall the food was decent — lunch«specials» were on the expensive side(for lunch — you’d expect something say $ 10 – 15, not $ 25-$ 30 right?). Service was OK, not great. Fries came out cold and the manager actually brought us a fresh batch — but our server was frankly just preoccupied somewhere else. Overall it was fine, albeit a little expensive

Our awesome hotel desk staffer recommended this place because we wanted good seafood within walking distance. We hit it during Happy Hour and landed a great small bar table. Widmer Bros Hefeweisen was the obvious choice for tasty adult beverages. We tried a couple of their sushi rolls on special, Spicy Tuna and Red Dragon — both were really good; I would highly recommend their Sweet Potato fries and nicely spiced dipping sauce; and their Baja Fish Tacos were very tasty! The place was packed for a weeknight, but the service couldn’t have been friendlier or quicker. We were in and out of here within 90 minutes, and we didn’t hurry at any point. Loved this place, and will make a point of coming back when in the area.
