NCNM Clinic

My fiancé went to have a biopsy. They quoted some great prices. One price for the office visit and one for the procedure. We went in June. In August, we got the bill but no word from the clinic on the results. I called and asked if we could get results. Oh, and by the way, the bill was almost double what the original quoted price was. They said, prices went up. OK. Finally someone called and said they could not tell the results from the biopsy but if she would schedule another meeting they could talk about it. Not sure how much but most certain there would be more cost for them to tell her in person they don’t know what they are doing.
They took a chunk of skin to test it for cancer and almost 2 months later they called to say they don’t know the results.
Save yourself some money and get the same results by going under the Burnside bridge and ask the homeless guys their opinion.
They are good at billing but not so good on results.

I’ve had issue with miscommunication on insurance coverage which delayed lab results by two months, but now that it has been resolved I am satisfied with service received. Unfortunately my condition is deemed out of scope and needs to be referred out, but I’m happy there is venue I can have it addressed. Dr. Baldwin is very nice and sincere, she listened to me intently and offered honest feedback which I greatly appreciate. I’ll return if any other complication arise, but I feel what can be addressed here has been achieved via naturopathic means.

I have been going here for 5 years. Without health insurance to cover naturopathy, and without any Western medicine concepts that could cure my ailments, this place has truly saved my gut and my wallet. $ 25 per session is a great deal, and I feel that the doctors are incredibly supportive nearly all the time.
If you don’t enjoy your session, ask for another doctor, it’s worth searching since there are so many good ones here. Same goes for residents, but they do change a lot, which can be the only frustrating aspect. Very few of the residents will call you back quickly, so it can be hard to get much feedback between treatments. This is the main reason I dropped it from 5 stars. However, for the cost, it’s a great experience, and the actual visits are usually excellent.
Gut health can take a while, and mine has taken a lot of twists and turns with candida and SIBO. I have felt like I was supported all along the way. When I consider how little money I have spent here, versus how much I spend when I see any Allopathic doctor, I am dismayed why anyone would continue to blow their money on the broken health care system when options like NCNM exist.

Unfortunately, if you get a bad intern, he will make your back worse than you started. So choose this place carefully.
It’s unfortunate that I post negative reviews, but it’s true though. One day I went in with very little pain, and I leave with a pain of 3/​10, for the next few days.

About 2 years ago I went to NCNM Clinic for digestive issues, including pain when I ate anything, anxiety, chronic stress, and serious weight loss.
Dr. Leslie Fuller (and Jenna, her student at the time) seriously spent the time to uncover my issues and recommended some enzymes and a couple of other remedies, and 2 years later most of my issues have resolved, I am able to eat again, and I am working out again!
Dr. Leslie Fuller and her team are absolutely phenomenal! I owe them the biggest amount of Gratitude for helping me to get my life back!

They seem to be the international center for SIBO research and treatment, yet it’s still a new concept. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars here and months of frustration working with this place. It’s so flakey, especially most of the interns, so make sure you get a good one. You have to research and advocate for yourself a lot here, be prepared. It’s the best place to go if you have certain disorders, but be careful, this place is chaos. Call a lot, confirm everything, be a squeaky wheel and you may get treated with respect. However, you don’t need to bring a lawyer, I’ve gotten a second opinion from my adventist health general practitioner, and confirmed that I’m in the right hands at the NCNM. Very cool.
If they cure me, I’ll give five stars, but for now, I’m still sick. I’m giving them three stars because I’m feeling generous and had a few better experiences with them recently.

Update, it’s been months now since I’ve been to the clinic, and have talked to the coordinator about my situation and they have done nothing to right the wrongs done there. I’m not only out a lot of money, I’m sicker and even have a few symptoms that are new. I’m dependent on a laxative they recommended for me and now can’t function without it, and have to take regular high doses and I’m worried. I’m scared and don’t know what to do. I followed all of their directives to the best of my ability and every time I saw the doctor and interns, they would just tell me to keep eliminating more foods. I’ve already lost over thirty more pounds and still loosing weight and wondering if my system can handle more weight loss if this continues? Then, some of the interns would give me offhanded advice, like putting olive oil on my lips? One guy wanted to set up private sessions of some kind of unrelated Chinese body work… They performed some muscle testing which apparently seemed to get results once, yet turned out to be bogus. There are some nice people here, yet many are fit to work for Burger King, not treating patients. In my opinion, it’s a joke, and they do a lot of hocus pocus to perhaps cause a placebo effect on those who believe in new age practices. These folks can’t seem to answer my questions and were mostly very vague with me. Also, those idiot interns have trouble even working a computer and really need to watch what they post in their personal social media, are they really studying to practice medicine, or did their hippy parents send them there because they were stoned in the basement all the time? Yes, one of the interns was a bit older than the others and seemed to have answers and was very professional. But heck, I’m still very sick. In fact at one point in my «treatment», I got so ill, I nearly called an ambulance and NCNM told me I must have gotten food poisoning. I’m not suing them, I don’t want to hurt this industry, I believe in the concept and principals of natural medicine. I just wish they would be a positive example and at least pretend to care about how much they messed my life up.

Affordable naturopathic care. Huge boost in stars for that simple fact.
I feel so fortunate to live in a city where this sort of care is available. What I love about NCNM Clinic, more than regular medical doctors I have seen is that not only am I getting natural holistic treatment, but that the students are super interested in learning and investigating. My health is super exciting to them and I am super excited to finally be getting healthy!
One thing you need to understand going into this sort of educational facility– you need to be proactive in your treatment. Expect to repeat yourself, telling your story to multiple people. Know your story and have some patience, knowing that there are a lot of people working to help you right now. Appointments take a lot of time — hours usually. And depending how serious your condition, there will likely be many appointments after the initial appointment. But getting healthy and not doing it with poisonous pharmaceuticals? Totally worth it.
I’d also like to add that contrary to the previous poster, my experience with the receptionists HAVE been awesome.

It’s understandable this is a learning office/​school, but with that said I expect a lot more!!! The receptionists are a joke, I sure hope they are not paid! If they were and are treated the way I have been treated every time I walk in the door here I would expect to be FIRED! Rude, insensitive and incompetent! Learning or not they have NO customer service skills or tact at all! The lab is almost as rude! They seem to expect their paying clients to know everything…(how long my appt. Should be, all of their rules, policies and guidelines as well as be a mind reader)! My doctor has been great but everyone else in this clinic SUCKS! What exactly are they teaching these people as they all see unqualified, incompetent and just plane RUDE!

The NCNM is FANTASTIC. Yes, it it a student staff, but you also see a real doctor that oversees the groups of students. My husband and I have both visited the Mt. Olivet location and found beyond stellar care. We HIGHLY recommend you give them a whirl. The price is unbeatable if you don’t have insurance, or have horrible useless insurance, and the solutions to your ailments are natural alternatives before heavy prescriptions. It’s some of the most attentive, fabulous health care I’ve ever received!

I have seen over two dozen medical doctors and specialists for the many health problems that I have faced in the last five years. When they could only come up with stress and genetics as an explanation for my debilitating symptoms, I began to seek out alternative options.
Of course, having lost my job to this developing disability, I sought out care from the student clinic (as well as another ND, DC in town). I had become so desperate and discouraged by the way I was treated with compartmentalizing MD’s; this place was a Godsend. Intake was so thorough and considerations/​explanations always had a holistic basis.
Not only was I treated very well and given undivided attention, but people actually went out of their way to help with other personal things because they could see how hard I was struggling.
They make care affordable and treatment even more so. The lab is wonderful and the technicians are fully present when providing care to you. I am nervous with needles and they were actually compassionate to that fact. Also, my results were provided to both myself and my provider, promptly.
Best of all, the doctors and many student involved in my care were able to find what was actually wrong with me and get me a treatment that really worked. I am impressed and support this place wholeheartedly! I highly recommend the NCNM clinic.

They do fantastic work!
It is a teaching clinic, so it takes longer than a regular visit, but the affordable price makes up for it. If you’re interested in health alternatives, you have to try them out!

For not having had insurance yet from my work I have been resulting to coming here. It’s fairly close to my place which is nice. The students that work their are really sweet. They asked many questions about my symptoms. They started taking tests and I was out of their in a hour and a half and paid about 97 $. I highly recommend this place to everyone.

Beautiful clinic! The staff was very friendly and professional. The doctor I had was very attentive and spent as much time as I needed for my appointment. I felt very cared for and comfortable. The medicinary was very helpful with explanations on the specific formulas I received. I highly suggest going to the clinic for any Naturopathic needs!

I have not been to the clinic.
This review is for the NCNM LAB. I had $ 700 (out of pocket) worth of testing done there last March. I have called them 5 times asking for the results. I have filled out paperwork twice. I have left three messages, that were never returned.
It’s now August and I STILL do not have copies of my test results.

I’ve been to the clinic three times now, all for lab procedures. All three times it was a clusterfoo of incorrect information, mistakes, botched paperwork, and messed-​up logistics.
From the receptionist who told me I could take the streetcar right there (um, no, not even close), to the incorrect information about fasting before a test (I was told different things by 3 people), to the scheduler who made my lab appointment 2 hours *after* the lab closed, and so on, it’s a prime example of why hippies shouldn’t be in charge of anything except where to score a bag.
Add that to the inconvenient location and screwy hours, and you’ve got a place I’m never going again.
The only reason this is a 2-​star review instead of 1 is because when I finally got my blood test this morning, the phlebotomist was quite good.

Since NCNM Clinic is a teaching facility, I think everyones experience is going to vary greatly depending which students and doctors they see.
If you have something straightforward that you want addressed, I think this is a good option and could save you some money. I want this to be a very fair review because nearly everyone was professional and kind.
The initial consultation is about an hour and a half long, but budget longer if your doctors go more in depth or if you need to wait at the medicinary afterward for prescriptions.
A third year student came down and guided me upstairs to a room that looks very much like a conventional doctor’s room. I’ve only been to one other naturopath before, which was soft and inviting, so I was surprised by how clinical it was.
Then a fourth year student joins the third year student and they ask an extensive amount of questions about you and your family’s physical health, pretty much everything that you’ve filled out on the lengthy initial intake form.
In the hour and a half, two accredited doctors checked in for about five minutes or so. I was surprised because I’d thought that the doctors would be in there the entire time, overseeing how the students did things, based on the information my husband received when he made the appointment. (Later, when I asked, I learned it depends on the doctor.)
The student I was assigned wasn’t able to help. The second visit made it clear what I’d suspected in the first visit: she was treating symptoms rather than looking for a root cause. I think this was exacerbated because she clearly thought I was exaggerating and she also didn’t listen to me.
For example, during the second visit, the student asked if I was feeling better and I said, «No.» When the accredited doctor entered the room, the doctor said, «I hear you’re feeling better.» There were other instances.
The student also said something highly inappropriate to me, which if I had a different history could’ve been very triggering. As it is, it put me in a very anxiety-​inducing situation: feel guilty for saying something (potentially upsetting her) or feel guilty for not saying anything (and potentially allowing someone else to be triggered).
I ultimately chose the first and I have to commend the admin that I spoke to. She was very friendly and listened to me. Her manager called me the next day and my husband said it was a very nice voice message. One of the doctors also called. Everyone was very nice about it.
It’s probably my fault for choosing a school. This would be much better for someone who wants something simple and straightforward. I will continue going to the medicinary for the product that does seem to help, but will discontinue the ones that have aggravated existing conditions. I really do think this is a kind clinic that helps a lot of people.

What a breath of fresh air! Being treated like a human unfortunately has become a rarity in the health industry. This place, these people are truly wonderful. It really floored me to be listened to. Not rushed, and by not rushed I mean over 2 hours for my initial intake. at no point did I feel I was not the focus of the visit. I was treated with respect. My questions were answered and the ones they couldn’t were written down and answered at a later point with a phone call. They take into consideration your income and have a lower rate system you can apply for with proof of income. A real gem of a clinic. I tell everyone I know about this place.

You helped me through my sickness when other Western Medicine Doctors were clueless.

I had a consultation with a student MD at the PCC clinic who was open to my self diagnoses of Adrenal Fatigue. She even had familiarity with the term and asked relevant questions which is more than I could say about the conventional MDs at OHSU where I had to pester to get care.
The student MDs intake was thorough and professional and I was provided a gratis (free) saliva test which detected stage 3 adrenal fatigue.
There was an presiding MD — a Dr. Peabody, who checked up on the consultation. She was the person I went through to get my test results. Due to the lack of clinic computers, xerox machines, faxes or availability of the clinic four days of the week, I was unable to get the results when Peabody promised. I then persisted in getting information or learning what the delay was, and due to the help of the office manager, got my results. In retaliation the supervising MD wrote a letter stating that I was healthy which the tests and labs indicate otherwise. So watch out if you need your lab results.
This school works with the Outside In clinic. When I went there three times to get a consult, I was told that it was $ 10 at the PCC clinic by someone working the desk at Outside In. Instead it was $ 20 at the PCC clinic which, in the end was worth it.

You see doctors who are very interested in you and have the patience and heart to answer your questions and explain treatments. I’ve found the people to be supportive and professional. I’ve had great experiences at the NCNM Clinic.

There is a good consensus on the holistic approach to health and medicine, and these guys practice that. From the getgo how they receive you and treat you is very different than a mainstream clinic and that is very refreshing. They were so attentive and kind i was really surprised. I can’t say enough about how much i liked this place. And homeopathic medicine is what i got for now, i am going back soon!
