Description

Specialties

We offer a full range of fine-art supplies, including unique and hard-to-find items. Specialty areas include encaustic painting, Chinese calligraphy, and a wide selection of inks for drawing, writing, and painting. We specialize in personalized service and are glad to place special orders for items that we don’t have in stock. We are always researching new items to carry, and some of the best suggestions come from our customers!

History

Established in 2004.

Muse was founded with the idea that shopping for art supplies can be an inspiring and energizing experience. Typical art supplies stores are often filled with an overwhelming variety of brands, but rarely offer personable, knowledgeable, and friendly service to help you find what you are looking for. Art suppy also sometimes look more like K-mart than like warm, welcoming environments designed for people who care about aesthetics. We wanted to create a place where experienced artists as well as those who are just getting started could feel at home, talk about their work and their ideas, learn about things they haven’t tried before, and connect with other artists and resources — and of course, find quality art supplies at reasonable prices.

Meet the Business Owner

Peter R.

Business Owner

An artist himself, Peter has a varied background working in theater set design, graphic design, business event production, as well as his own projects in acrylic, watercolor, and mixed media. He loves getting to know other artists in the community and learning about their creative endeavors. Peter lives in the neighborhood just blocks from Muse and is thrilled that Muse has become a destination in the bustling, creative, and eclectic Hawthorne district. Peter is always thinking of ways that Muse can connect with and support the local art community, whether by showing work by artists, sponsoring and promoting art-related events, organizing networking and infomational events for artists, or providing resources and information beyond the selection of materials offered at Muse. In 2009, Peter started «An Artist a Day,» an annual month-long live art event, exhibit, and fundraiser to showcase local artists and provide art supplies for public schools.
