Multnomah University

Great school and a great MAC program. Dr. Manock is going to provide a depth and insight into this program that can make it a top-​tier school for counseling.

Multnomah University is an excellent choice for building friendships, learning about God and His Word and for falling in love with the Savior. Many people say it’s changed a lot since it was founded and in some ways they are right. But who is to say that change is always a bad thing? Women are allowed to wear pants now, men can grow facial hair (cinco de mustache), and there is a new business program! I like a lot of the change. What I appreciate even more, however, is that the focal point of the institution is the same as it has always been — the Bible. Amidst the required general ed courses are classes which do two things: educate students regarding biblical knowledge, and instill a passion and love for Jesus Christ.
Another reviewer on Unilocal mentioned that they disliked how professors disagree on different doctrinal beliefs. In my opinion, however, iron sharpens iron. Students are given the opportunity to hear different Biblical scholars, and then choose for themselves what they believe based upon what the Scripture is saying. Sure, some may walk away saying we have free will, others saying we don’t. Some will interpret the text to say women can’t speak in church, and still others will say that doesn’t apply any more. They don’t agree on everything, but the professors all agree on the Gospel, the good news of Salvation for sinners through Christ’s atoning work on the cross.
Multnomah does not create Christian robots who all believe the same thing and act the same way. It creates educated men and women who graduate with a better understanding of God’s Word and how much they are loved by their Creator.
The community is amazing, the professors are personable, the sports are fun, the classes are enjoyable and I am so happy I chose Multnomah. Go Lions!

If it’s the Bible you want, go to a book store!
There are some really great faculty members, some not so great, but the horrible thing is the doctrine. Some of the professors are Calvinists (believing we do not have free will) and some are Armeniests (believing we do have free will). They try and present a united front, but how can you when you can’t agree on something so basic.
Some of the teaching there is outright bizarre. One professor believes that when Ruth uncovers Boaz’s feet in the book of Ruth that means she is performing oral sex. I wish I was kidding.
Multnomah has loosened up a lot since when I attended, but it is a very homogenized culture. Differences on certain views are allowed, but others are off limits. My views, after double majoring in Theology, Greek and minoring in Hebrew (aka studying and putting my whole heart into trying to discover God’s will and his Gospel) were not within Multnomah’s box.
So, I spoke with one professor, who then spread the news. I still feel violated that he did so. I got pulled into a lot of meetings to discuss some very personal decisions I was making. I was the recipient of an award based on academics and was told the man for whom the award was named would roll over in his grave if he knew I was receiving it. They also had to have a pow-​wow to discuss if I could even be allowed to graduate, despite being number one in my class.
That made graduation super fun.
I had one teacher blast me to pieces to «Scare the hell into me.» He said I had gone astray when I prayed and asked God about certain doctrine. That’s where I «fell away.» HUH?
What really took the cake for me though was taking a class from the then Dean of Students, Wayne Stricklen. He taught us that unborn children and those who are too young to «accept Christ into their hearts» go to hell. Then he told the class to keep this doctrine a secret and not tell people until they had converted.
All of the brightest people I know either dropped out because of issues like this, or just gutted it out. On average, it takes people 7 years to graduate from Multnomah.
My Freshman class had a turn over rate of 50%. I’ll let the numbers speak for themselves.

Multnomah has been devoted to teaching the Bible to men and women since the 1930s. As the motto coined by one of the founders says, «If it’s Bible you want, then you want Multnomah!»
Not only will you earn a degree at Multnomah, but you also will experience life change. Multnomah’s education is more than learning in the classroom… it’s learning hands-​on in ministry… it’s learning during late night talks with friends in the coffee shop… it’s learning about the heart of God through prayer.
This school is one of the biggest blessings in my life. Multnomah requires students who attend to earn a major in Bible/​Theology, and it’s because of this that I have had such a life changing experience. Had I been left to my own choices, I wouldn’t have chosen to get a Bible major, yet it has increased my faith more than a hundred times over. We go through the entire Bible and attend theology classes that address the biggest problems faced in the world. I would highly recommend this school to anyone who is looking for a Christian college, and for those who keep in mind that a cheaper school would be beneficial because of loans.
