I had a good experience. Techs were friendly and knowledgable. We recently purchased an older home with heating oil furnace. This was my first experience with an older furnace like this so I had a lot of questions. They answered all my questions and got me up to speed on the oil furnace basics and it didn’t cost that much. I would recommend them to my friends/​neighbors. Thanks!

Even though it was a return visit, Dutch (the technician from Mr. Nash) went to the wrong address and I had to wait an hour and a half before he arrived at the correct house. Then, when he saw that the pilot light on the furnace wasn’t lit, he asked me if I had a match! Apparently, it never occurred to him that he might have to light a pilot as part of his job. I finally found one for him and he got the furnace up and running. The problem, however, was that the furnace was turning itself off before it got to the temperature indicated on the thermostat – a problem that I had explained to the dispatcher when I arranged the appointment. Dutch said he couldn’t test for this because the weather was too hot. Then he asked me if I had a carbon monoxide detector. I said I did and showed him where it was, even though he had already tested for carbon monoxide on his previous visit and had put in writing that the furnace was «old but safe.» So he pushes on the test button and the alarm goes off, which is what it’s supposed to do when you push the test button. Dutch, however, interprets this to means that there’s a carbon monoxide leak. I object that the alarm means nothing more than that the detector is working properly, but he insists he can SMELL the carbon monoxide. I point out to him that carbon monoxide has no smell, at which point he gets all huffy and brusquely informs me that the furnace is «condemned» and needs to be replaced.
The next day I got someone from The Heating Specialist to come out. He said the furnace was totally safe and got it running properly within a half hour.
I called Mr. Nash’s dispatcher and asked to speak to the owner in order to complain about Dutch. I was told the owner would call me back, but she never did. So I’m out $ 105 (for the first visit, at which Dutch simply told me to go get a new thermostat) and would not recommend Mr. Nash to anyone. Go with The Heating Specialist instead.

Dutch cane round and was simply great. How good is it to meet a trade guy that isnt there to rip you off and is customer orientated? We had a motor burn out and he came round and fixed it within 2 hours — new motor and labor. 5 stars for Mr Nash and Dutch!

I had Mr. Nash install A/​C for me recently (a couple weeks ago). So far it’s working great. They were quick to install it — it only took about six hours, and they put the unit just where I asked so there was minimum change to the garden. The electrician wasn’t available same-​day, but they had him out on Saturday and that was just a couple hours. It was just before the heat waves started and boy was I grateful that they got it done then.
Getting the estimate was a bit of a chore because they initially scheduled me for a furance check rather than estimate due to some sort of miscommunication, and then their usual estimator (who also helped install) was ill, but once that was all done they came in as the lowest bid (compared to a couple other reputable local companies) and were great to work with on the install. Definitely on the old-​fashioned side for scheduling and estimates, but also for good work.

I have to admit that at first I LOVED these guys! When we originally moved into our house the AC wouldn’t engage so we had to call someone out there to fix it. Mr. Nash came out and had it working again within a few hours good as new. Unfortunately that wasn’t the last time we’d be seeing them. We saw them 3 more times within that year, this time it was because our furnace was leaking horribly in the garage anytime you’d turn on the AC.
Now, first and foremost let me say that every time they came out the tech I was dealing with was named Dutch. This guy is AWESOME! In no way whatsoever is this negative review geared towards him. He was the nicest, friendliest, and most down to earth guy ever. My negativity is geared more towards the company in general.
On 3 different occasions they sent Dutch out to fix our leaking AC unit, and on 3 different occasions it didn’t get fixed. You might think this is because we were dealing with an incompetent tech, but that wasn’t the case at all. Moreover we were dealing with a company that didn’t provide their techs the tools to get the job done. Case in point: Dutch told me he didn’t have the tools to evacuate the air conditioning unit (which he needed to do in order to get to the bottom of the problem). He told me to call his boss (an older woman named Levina) and encourage her to provide him with the tools he needed. You know what they did? They just referred me to another company.
So, I have to ask… Why are you charging us for THREE failed attempts to fix the issue with our air conditioner when you couldn’t even fix it, and didn’t even have the tools to do it? Again, this isn’t Dutch’s fault. This is Levina and the owners at Mr. Nash’s fault for not providing their employees with the equipment they need. From what I gather the company is run by two older people who are not only out of touch with the times, but are also cheapskates from what I gather.
So, Dutch gets 5 stars, the owners and the company deserve ZERO stars. Charging us to work on our AC which you didn’t even fix?

After calling and speaking to the very nice woman who answers the phone, a technician came over a day later (in autumn that’s very fast). After confirming what I’d suspected was making my furnace pump cold air, not keep the burners lit and waste gas, he cleaned the flame sensor, replaced the filter and checked that the pressure switch was in working order. I could have done this myself but after the NW Natural technician failed to correct those problems, I wanted to be sure by hiring the company who, originally, installed the furnace. It’s been working, perfectly, since and I make sure to keep filters on hand for quarterly changing.

Mr. Nash himself came by on a Friday night and fixed our furnace. Even though it was outside of business hours, he rolled through. He was very nice and efficient and the price was reasonable. Very good people.

Well, I used Mr. Nash once before based on great Unilocal reviews, and I had a good experience getting my furnace fixed last year. But I had an awful experience when I tried to get them to repair some air ducts for me. I called a week ago and had to wait 24 hours until the tech called me back to make an appointment. Then I had to wait a week before they could come out. I left work early for the appt, but no one showed or called. So after waiting an hour I called. I was given the number if the tech and told to contact him. Left a message, then someone else called me back and said he wasn’t going to make it, but would have someone else call me. Next guy called and showed up 15 min later. Said it would be an easy job but didn’t give me a quote. Said he needed to call my original tech first but he could probably come back the same night to fix it as a side job if the tech said ok. He left and no one ever called me back. Horrible customer service and now they lost a customer who was going to be getting a new furnace and air conditioning in the next year or two.

Mr. Nash helped clean and service our gas furnace to improve our energy efficiency. They were great. Easy to schedule with, quick, respectful of my home. I’d use them again.

So I’ve been having a problem with my furnace for the past 3 years (since I purchased the home). My furnace was temperamental and worked for the most part but on the coldest of days in Portland, my furnace stopped working! I would open it up and tinker around with stuff but I had no idea what I was doing. Occasionally, the heater would turn back on and I had no idea why. Anyway, fast forward I called the number on the sticker «Mr. Nash» that was on the furnace for the first time. I have no idea why I didn’t do it 3 years ago when the problem first happened, maybe because I thought if it’s broken, logically the last guy who came to service it didn’t do a good job… In the past before I called Mr. Nash, I’ve had 4 other techs come out to look at the furnace (1 person sent out by the Warranty company, 2 from NW Gas, and 1 recommended by the original inspector). Granted 2 weren’t real furnace technicians since they were from the Gas Company, they were only there to diagnose it at a surface level. Each time someone came out, the heater ALWAYS kicked on while they were there. I’m sure it was because the tapping around they did.
So I called up Mr. Nash last Sunday and left a voicemail, keep in mind this is the Sunday before Thanksgiving. A lady promptly called me back on Monday AM and offered me an emergency service that Monday afternoon. I opted to wait until Wednesday AM so I didn’t have to pay the up charge for the service because the first half hour is $ 90 something normally. My home is small so some space heaters work fine for a couple of days. Again, I was very skeptical that anyone they sent out would actually fix it. I was totally anticipating them sending someone out and they will tinker around and the heater will just kick back on like all other times and nothing will be fixed. Another $ 100+ out the window. I was probably being unreasonable because it’s not standard in the industry but I wanted a guarantee! The lady said… «Don’t worry our guys have a lot of experience»… Famous last words before I lose another couple hundred bucks…
Dutch, the furnace tech, came by promptly in the window that the lady told me on Monday. He made a phone call immediately once he read the blinking lights. Within 15 minutes or so, he figured out the furnace’s issue was that the pressure hose was cracked and the pressure switch was sticking. He tuned up the rest of the furnace just to be sure that the pressure hose/​switch was the only problem. Though he didn’t have the replacement part on Wednesday, he said he would come back on Friday (black Friday) with the part and would install it within a few minutes. He taught me how to turn the furnace on in case the pressure switch stuck again until it could be replaced on Friday. All in all, he was here for 45 minutes ish. Though it cost me $ 137 for the service (and then another $ 50 for the part on Friday), it was totally worth it! My heater is on and now I feel confident that it’s really fixed this time and I don’t anticipate it sporadically working. He was very friendly and courteous to me. He even called me back after he left when he thought of something that could help me with my loudness from my return air filter.
This was a great experience. I have to say the lady was right!!! I’ll gladly call them again in a heartbeat.

I have been using their services for years now ever since one of our family friend recommended them. We are happy everytime when they come over for maintenance.

Mr. Nash aka Marv was fantastic. He talked me through everything he was doing when diagnosing the issue (bad pressure switch), calibrating the new switch and installing it. He even cleaned the temperature sensor rod while he was at it.
He was friendly, knowledgeable and reasonably priced. I will be calling him again for regular maintenance and any future problems I may have.

I have had a few occasions to call Mr. Nash over the years, and I’ve always been a very happy customer. They are reliable, honest, and I never feel like I will be taken advantage of.
On their first visit, my furnace had been making a terrible whistling sound through the vents — the solution was a part which was under $ 5, and immediately solved the problem. As a non-​furnace expert, I would have willingly paid for a much more expensive fix, because the noise was driving me nuts — but they didn’t take advantage of that.
That experience sold me, and they have continued to impress me with their good work, and good work ethic.
The reviews here capture their business well — you can feel confident that they will do a great job, in a timely manner, for a very fair price.

I own a contracting business so I have a pretty high expectation of repair people and I am a hard judge of service companies. I hired Mr. Nash to fix my oil furnace after it stopped working on a weekend. I looked over his shoulder and asked questions the entire time.
Mr. Nash himself arrived and correctly assessed the problem as a blocked check valve in the underground tank — I was amazed at the diagnosis. The solution was looking pretty grim — excavating to the tank and attempting a repair or replacing the tank. However, Mr. Nash had a clever idea about how to reverse pressure the oil line and, hopefully, knock the obstructions back into the tank. And it worked!
It was a brillant deductiion and clever idea to save me a lot of headache and money. As I write this review the furance has been humming along for several weeks and my house is warm and cozy. Thank you Mr. Nash!

Got heat?
We finally gave in and bought 200 gallons of fuel oil and fired up our furnace here in our 1940s rental home.. . Nothing.
We hadn’t used the olé beast since last spring.
Soon Mr Nash appeared and took a look. As is typical in old rental homes, the heating system was somewhat, patchwork. (See photos) But, the Mr Nash guy didn’t seem fazed. He checked the exotic system, stepped out to his truck and returned with a small part. I don’t know the price since our landlord payed the bill.
Bottom line, the Mr Nash heating expert knew his stuff. He quickly and simply repaired a furnace from olden times. Response time, about one day after we called in busy November. Time to repair, less than one hour. My wife Colleen appreciated that he was friendly and upbeat while working in our home.
Not bad.
(PS: As of Nov 2012, Our furnace has continued to work with no problems for 2 years! Thank you Mr Nash!)
