We were so excited to have Montbell opened in PDX as I was asked by many people here in PDX where I got my down pants from and I had to tell them I bought it when I was in Japan and they can probably find it online but there is no store in Westcoast. They told me they have not seen something like that in REI or NorthFace or any other stores. The pants is warm and light and you can wear it even on top of tight fitted jeans. I do it when it is much colder but most of time, I just wear it on top on my underwear or on top of light leggings. I use it to walk my dogs or go to farmers market when it is cold and raining. I always have cold feet and having a warm and easy to waer pants was a must. I bought one for my mother and we went to Yosemite NP in winter where we did not feel cold at all in snow piled meadows of the valley. Thanks to the down pants! I am thinking to buy an extra pair in smaller size before it is gone. It is designed in Japan so length is just right for a person who is not tall. It is difficult to shorten the down pants so having a right length is also very important for me. The Japanese store manager Tomioka-san is a great and he is very caring for customers. He remembers what we were looking for from few months ago. We were looking for walking shoes with a dial to tighten or loosen the support and was waiting to try it out. His level of customer service is something I had never experienced in USA! It is just amazing!

Went to the newly opened Montbell stored today in downtown Portland. Very nice store and the gear is functionally designed, wears great and is reasonably priced. I have owned a Montbell gortex jacket for over 15 years and it is built to last and I was really excited when I learned they opened a store in Portland. The store is very nicely laid out showing their latest gear and they also has an outlet section too. The pricing of their gear is very reasonable for the quality. I would put them at a level above that of REI branded gear and as good as North Face but at a lower price point. The staff was extremely nice. I spoke with the store manager and he was from Japan and he told me that they were excited to be in Portland and that business at the store was good and the website was really doing well. If you are in the area and want to check out a really nice outdoor gear store for quality fleece/gortex outdoor clothing you should definitely drop in. They also have hiking boots and rock climbing shoes, luggage, backpacks and other assorted gear. It doesn’t have the range of gear as REI but the styling of their outdoor clothing and pricing is a great reason to drop in to check it out. I ended up getting a very nice lined fleece jacket that is as nice as any North Face product and I would dare stay also Arcteryx comparable.
