Monkey King Playhouse

This was the perfect play place for my 2 year old. Small enough that we could find him, but big enough for him to have fun. The only thing we weren’t impressed with was the price. We are used to paying about $ 4 or $ 5 for a very similar place in our old town. $ 8 per kid is kind of steep.

We were about to go to the airport when our flight was canceled for our trip home to Denver. My wife and I quickly Unilocaled things to do that would work for our boys (two and four). At home we have our go-​to places but were only in Portland for a night to catch a flight the next morning. Luckily we came across Monkey King and took a chance.
The families in Portland are spoiled to have this place! We would love to have a place like this in Denver near our house. Our boys played hard for three straight hours. The owner was very nice and showed us around to get comfortable with how everything works. It’s basically one giant enclosed play area — with different ways to get to each area. There are slides, air machines, nets, plenty of areas to climb — basically a dream for kids this age. Looks like there is also a small private room for birthday parties for kids to eat. If you’re hungry, they serve Chinese food too!
Did not see one unhappy kid (or parent) which is rare, Usually we are both checking our watches (mom and dad) at kid play areas. Monkey King saved the day. Great place.

I live near here for years now and never been to this place. Place is cool. My kids love it and I brought in a drink from the outside and the owner said they are not allowed but still let me keep. Price is cheap compared to other places. I couldn’t ask for more.

This place is garbage. And the fact my cousin went in a month ago to talk about having a birthday party here and got the okay. Come party day were told no. The owner is extremely rude and unprofessional. Our family will never come to this place again, and I would never recommend this place to anyone. There are way better indoor play places around here.

Every time we go here, I am impressed with how clean it is. My kids (4 and 1 year old) both have a great time. It’s got slides! Parents can walk around the perimeter and see the whole thing. Customer service is a priority (the owner is around and gives candy out to the kids) and our food was great. Definitely worth a visit on a rainy day.

I came here on a Monday afternoon with my 2 year old daughter. I was surprised that the admission fee was $ 8 for a two year old but I paid it anyways because I really wanted to love this place. I looked at the food menu and immediately put it back because it’s way overpriced. There is a small area to the side that specifically states it’s for toddlers 5 & under. I tried to ask the owner if this area was for toddlers and he couldn’t be bothered on his Bluetooth. 10 minutes later he told me that it was indeed the toddler area. There were at least 2 kids in there that were well over 5 years old. They were very aggressive with my two year old so I decided to go inside and take her throughout the rest of the play gym. This place is not adult friendly whatsoever but it’s impossible to see your kid from the outside. After awhile I took my daughter back to the toddler area where an older kid shoved her down the slide and threw a ball at her face. Her grandmother was *surprise* in a corner on her iPad totally oblivious to what was going on. There is no adult supervision here because parents come here to not have to watch their kids and it’s not a good place for younger toddlers since the younger play area is not enforced. I will not be coming back. I prefer Roseway Play Café on 72^nd and Fremont. It’s pretty far from Rockwood, but well worth the drive if you have younger kids. Plus admission is only $ 3!

I paid $ 8 per child to play here. I thought I would enjoy the AC while they kept themselves busy and I could get some work done on my laptop. But, the wifi doesn’t work and the guy isn’t sure why and doesn’t offer an explanation so now I’m sitting here writing a Unilocal review on my phone. Don’t advertise free wifi if you don’t actually have it and try to be less awkward to your customers please. We all feel weird asking you questions and the weirdness is coming from you not us.

After several days of sunny-​day out-​door activities, I took my son to Monkey King Playhouse to have some fun while getting out of the sun for a little while. I had heard of this place through the grape vine, had been to similar places like PlayDate PDX, Safari Sams, Out of this World Pizza and Dizzy’s Castle and thought I’d check it out. I like the fact that the play area is smaller; more toddler size than the structures at the previously mentioned locations. Additionally, they have a toddler area that is more visible to supervising parents and one can walk around the structure and see their LO playing throughout. My kiddo wanted me to join him in the play structure. Despite the smaller area, I was able to make my way through the bottom of the structure without much difficulty. Attempting to go up within the structure proved to be a little more difficult for me as an adult. I appreciated that the the facility was small and the crowd was minimal on the day we went so it was easy to keep an eye on my LO without having to run around the facility too much. The food is pricey. While not the most delicious I’ve ever tasted, it was okay. The only complaint I had with the food was the time it took to be delivered; otherwise, no complaints, really. I’d suggest that they play some music of some sort and make the beverages self-​serve.

This indoor play area for young children is perfect for this area! It really is so awesome to have in the Gresham area. It is very clean, and you can walk around and see your kid from outside the play structure. We have the punchcard from the special they had & it has been well worth the money. My grandma can take my daughter here to play and not worry. The food is mediocre, and I feel a little highly priced, but the coffee & drink selection is good. We come here a lot and plan on many more trips! I do wish it was a little larger because I know she’ll outgrow the play structure in a couple years, but for now it’s just right :) small and intimate. Not a huge, loud play warehouse!

This place has got to have the WORST customer service ever. They refused to let my brother in with my daughters birthday dinner, even though the man on the phone clearly stated we could (and I’m pretty sure it was the same man I complained to about it, though he pretended to have no idea what I was talking about). They were extremely rude and I had paid quite a lot of money for a room. We didn’t get the party room I paid for. They put us in the adjoining part of the building used for their karate class or whatever. Oh and did I mention they left SWORDS out? Yeah! Just laying on the ground where the children were playing! Completely unsafe environment. I strongly urge anyone to not book here.

I took my son there for the first time today. It is a great place for kids and staff is very friendly. Clean all around as well. I didn’t try the food so I can not comment on that. However, kids watch out for «psycho moms» like the one red hair I ran into today. Those are the kind of mothers that give moms a bad name. Yelling and screaming obsenities because another little 3 year old hit her 3 year old. The mom of the one who hit her child, apologized and corrected her child. However, that crazy woman wouldn’t let it go. so, listen woman with the red hair, kids are kids and you’ve better learn that. I’m not saying that hitting is right, all I am saying is that you need to get control of yourself. When you take kids to interact with others, things are going to happen. If you can not deal with it, well then stay home. With your attitude you should anyway.

I’m very impressed with the service of the employees and owner or manager. He makes a point of going around and personally greeting everyone. He is always monitoring the facility and keeping things in order. The play area is very visible for the parents. I like that I can walk around the whole structure but there is only one way in and out. My kids like to run and this helps me keep sane! The food and drink is way better than I expected… not bad for a kids play area… it’s not a restaurant people you can’t expect top quality! The prices aren’t bad on weekends and cheap on weekdays. I will be back! Thanks for the afternoon of peace and quiet while my kids napped!

This review is based solely on the facilities. I did not try the food. Based on the other reviews though it isn’t great but I can’t knock until I try it. So there may be an updated review in the future. Lol.
Have been waiting for a place like this to come to Gresham! Not sure exactly how long they have been here but we just caught wind of their arrival. The place was very clean and everything seemed new. Prices in my opinion were average contrary to the outrage in other reviews. Ten dollars per kid for entry seems pretty fare to me especially when I’m sure some parents literally spend the whole day here. They have to make money somehow– especially if you eat beforehand like we had.
The neat part about this place is that it is connected to a Kung Fu class! As part of their birthday packs you can get a 1 hour lesson of Kung Fu for your party of up to 16 kids. How cool is that? Definitely considering this place for my kid’s 3^rd birthday. Will definitely return.

I cannot speak for the facility itself but I tried to order a gift certificate online for my nephews and had a terrible experience! The customer service is terrible! I had an issue with an online order but I tried to resolve with them and they were so unfriendly and unhelpful! I asked to speak with the manager who wasn’t there at the time and ask for the manager’s name but the employees said he was unable to give it to me. I then contacted uswusu which is there a regional affiliate to lodge a complaint and I met the same resistance and unfriendliness there. People are very hesitant to help an unapologetic about the problem that I had. Do not make online orders here!

Great, safe play place! There is a toddler area for the little ones and a huge play structure to explore for the bigger kids. We went on a Friday morning and it was nice and quiet.
The «dad chairs» are great. Plush, leather chairs and a matching couch. Um, I’ll take 2 of each!
There is a private restroom with a changing table for the diaper-​clad minions.
Food-​wise, they have a good menu selection (traipsing thru the play area will help you… I mean your kids… work up a big appetite).
There is also a special going for a summer pass. I think we will be getting one for our family and one for some friends.

I went to this place to have my daughters birthday party. First off they said I had a server but the server didn’t greet us when we came in, or help us with anything. I had to go out the party room each time one of my guess showed up, to make sure they signed a waiver before they could enter the party room. Anytime we needed something (forks, knives, napkins) me or my guess had to go up front and wait in line to get the items needed. The manager seemed really confused about pricing and how much each kid would cost for admission in the party room. And finally they dont have a CHANGING STATION! eeekkk!
Its a great place to come and bring they kids to play. But I wouldnt book or recommend a birthday party here. Its not crowded and they have good WiFi and small café, its a bit over priced but that is expected at a place like this.

This place is a joke! We were super excited to have an indoor play place close to Gresham and after one visit I can tell you we won’t be back. If you’re familiar with Playdates PDX or Dizzy Castle you’ll be hugely disappointed because not only is it much smaller, it’s way more expensive. It’s also very obvious that management has no clue how to run an indoor play area… please please go take some lessons from your competitors! The prices are ridiculous, especially for toddlers up to age 4… most places give a price break for younger kids. But for up to age 4 is free if they stay in a special area and if they set foot in the larger area (which is literally connected to the «big» kid area) you have to pay full price. The entire play area is on the smaller size so looks like it’s for a toddler anyway… It’s so confusing… there needs to just be flat rates for entry!
Here are some tips for them…
1. Do away with the different prices for different areas… just charge kids by age… under 3 or 4 has to be less!
2. You need to offer re-​entry
3. better food prices and self serve soda… come on people, free refills is mandatory now a days!
4. Put some music on… that place is dead quite and boring… it needs some livening up!
5. have better coupons… that are actually usable and a good deal

I was really excited about this place opening up since it’s so close to my house and it is difficult to drive across Portland, or even up to Vancouver, to the other indoor play houses. We’ve been three times in the past two months and both times have just been okay.
The good: The space seems very clean and both of my kids love the play space. Ultimately, my kids having fun is my top priority.
The bad: The price is way too high for what it is. This indoor playhouse is a smaller version of Playdate PDX, Safari Sams, or Kids Club Fun & Fitness in Vancouver, yet it is priced the same or higher. The pricing is also confusing. The food is just awful. Honestly, they’d be better off just selling pre-​packaged snack foods and a couple drinks. The seating area is small and uncomfortable. Overall, the place just seems unorganized. The last two times we went there were ZERO employees attending the children in the play structure. There was nobody making sure kids under age 4 weren’t in the toddler room, which created an unsafe environment for my baby to play while I was in there with him. Older kids kept coming in and rough housing all around us until their parents asked them to play elsewhere.
All in all, we may go back if we’re in a pinch for an indoor play space, but I don’t see this business surviving without lowering their prices and having a more organized environment.
Oh, and the «Friday Fun Night» pricing is ridiculous. I keep seeing coupons for $ 15 and it lists $ 60 as the regular price. Um, I can pay a babysitter to watch my kids, take them to a DIFFERENT indoor playhouse, and feed them dinner for less than $ 60. For reference, Kids Club Fun & Fitness in Vancouver does a similar «kids night out» drop-​off type thing for $ 14.95.

this is quite possibly the worst place I have ever taken my kids to ever. Clean although everything is overpriced comes from a box and tastes disgusting.
save yourself the time, don’t waste your money!

Newly opened. Clean and new. If you are familiar with Safari Sam’s in Sherwood this is a mini version on the East side. We were here for a friend’s birthday, kids got a quick Kung Fu lesson which was pretty entertaining with the kicks and flips. Didn’t try any of the food, but pizza, and the usual stuff listed with an espresso bar for the parents. There are a few Chinese food items listed, pot stickers and noodles — which may explain the faint smell of an Asian Grocery Store.
There is limited seating up front, so I can see it being crowded when busy. Oh and no re-​admission if you go out… and not much security in terms of kids wandering off and out the door.
Overall nice staff and enough to keep the kids entertained. I can see us coming back when the rainy months are here.
