Mod Salon

I was looking for a convenient place to go regularly for curly hair cuts, hair coloring & blow outs and have been really happy with Mod Salon! I’ve seen Shelby about five times now and have been extremely pleased. You can tell that she has been well trained in her field. She is such a great teacher, gives excellent hair cuts and the best blow outs. I really trust her with my hair. I highly recommend her.

My old hair stylist moved out of Portland, so I had to jump onto Unilocal to find another hair stylist. After much time and stress, I decided upon Mod Salon. They had fantastic reviews, and from what I could see, no real complaints.
Kiki worked on my hair, and she did a fantastic job. I came in stressed out because I’ve had bad experiences with my previous hair stylists, and she calmly listened to all my concerns and answered all my questions.
She was fast, nice, chatty, and wonderful =) My hair looked BEAUTIFUL when she was done, I am now a life long customer. I even asked her to do my hair for my wedding. Love her, love the place, and I am coming back in 2 months.

Great, low key salon. Shelby is wonderful and really educates you about hair and maintenance. If you have curly hair, she will cut it right.

Shelby totally fixed me up! I had a color correction which felt impossible to fix. And if I had went to any other salon — it wouldn’t have been fixed or at least not the way I wanted it to be. I somehow not only had my color corrected but I somehow walked out with my dream hair color. She also has a way of doing highlights which is very unique and the result is absolutely beautiful and very natural looking. It feels like Shelby is on the cutting edge after having just studied in LA for the past few years.
It was so nice to have an honest and long conversation with someone about what I wanted. To have someone listen and just really really get it. I loved that she said several times to ask her any questions and did I understand what she was doing etc. really takes the anxiety away.
My cut was also fantastic and again. Exactly what I wanted. It’s been a long while since that happened.
The salon was very clean, warm, cozy and peaceful. So often salons blare out really loud music and it’s crowded and uncomfortable but I felt very relaxed here. The glass of white wine was a great touch!

I have nothing negative to say about my experience at the Mod Salon.
After moving to Portland recently, I needed to find a new hairdresser. It was overwhelming, but I am SO glad I chose this place. I called on a Wednesday, and made an appointment for that Friday. Shelby was on time, and gave me absolutely the best haircut I’ve ever had. I’ve never been happier with my hair. Before, it was pretty long but the ends were beyond fried. Shelby whacked off (in a much gentler fashion) those crispy ends, and gave me wonderful layers.
She did quality work, and made sure the finished product looked perfect. On top of that, she gave me a bunch of tips on how to make my über wavy hair look its best.
If you’re on the fence about finding a new hairdresser, book Shelby for an appointment, you will NOT be disappointed.

What a great cut. Dee is super fast. She is friendly, sweet, and gets the job done. I told her what I needed, showed her a photo, and bam it was done. Done very well, I may add. At my age, I must have asked for blond highlights and a trim at least 100 times by now. Dee is top notch. Thanks.

Shalena is the best! She made all my hair dreams come true. Not only did she take the time to discuss different options of what we could do with cut, style & color but also eased my nerves about going purple! I absolutely love my new do and couldn’t be happier with it. Plus, everyone else seems to love it too. I’ve never gotten so many compliments on my hair before. An overall wonderful experience. Can’t wait to see what we do next!

Sarah is absolutely delightful, so sweet and concerned about making your hair look fantastic! I am new to PDX and was dreading finding that perfect stylist… Lucky me I found Sarah! Mod salon is very cool and love the open air. Too bad I don’t like wine because I see others enjoying a glass while getting beautiful.

I’ve never been this happy after getting my hair done! Kiki at Mod salon did an amazing job! I also had so much fun with her. What an fabulous environment! I’ve been to plenty of salons. Kiki has done by far the best job! I would recommend her to anyone! I went in there not too sure knowing exactly what I wanted and she gave me the perfect style.

I’ve seen Dee for a few years now and she’s the best. My color always turns out on point, she never over-​processes my hair — very important to me because my hair has been damaged in the past from color sitting for too long. Dee is so funny and sweet, I’m always in and out so fast (but results are always fantastic) and she and her girls work together so nicely. This salon is beautiful and they have a teamwork atmosphere, no client is ever left waiting too long or unattended. They even brought me tacos from across the street when I said I was hungry! I’m so impressed!

I was in town visiting Portland and on a whim decided to get my hair done. I looked on Unilocal found this salon walked in and I am so glad I found this place. Shelby happily took me as a walk in client which I was very thankful for. The place is really cool and has great products. You get a good feeling that they know what they are doing. Shelby was really awesome. We talked about what I wanted she listened and went to work. I got a cut color and blow dry and my hair looks awesome!!! This is a great spot. I wish Shelby and this salon were in my hometown. If you live in the area and are looking for a salon, TRY this place! Ask for Shelby! You will leave looking great!

I love the girls at Mod Salon. Dee is truly a master artist. She gets me in and out with a beautiful cut and color in under two hours! And Kiki did this fantastic crown braid just because. :-) I always feel super pampered when I go in.

Awesome salon — and THANK YOU SHELBY for giving me such a great cut and color– I’m completely obsessed! For years I’ve been asking for these type of bangs — 60’s but not too heavy — you nailed it! Can’t wait to come back :) lovely, chic, clean salon– and wine!

Just stopped by for a bang trim and I’ll be back!!! They were super sweet to squeeze me in for a quick bang trim. The place is super cool; very modern/​hip and welcoming. Great location off N Williams.
Kiki did my bangs and you can tell she’s learning from the best. She’s very thorough and has an eye for detail. Not a lot of people can do bangs (and I’m super anal) and she did fabulous! Had there been more time I would have done a full cut. I’ll definitely be back!
I definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a new stylist/​salon. I’ve struggled for many years to find the perfect person/​place and I’m very excited about this new place! It’s hip, cool and they do a great job from the way they make you feel as soon as you walk in: relaxed.

Mod Salon is fresh and trendy, and the décor is spot on. I had my hair cut and styled by Kiki and she did a great job of listening to what I wanted. I showed her a few pictures of haircuts that I liked and I am extremely pleased with the result. I will definitely go back to see her!

Kiki is amazing! Just like you, it was hard for me to try someone new, but thank God, I have never left disappointed! My blonde is the BEST ITS EVER LOOKED!
She truly exceeds my expectations each time! I’ve never gotten more compliments on my hair than I do now. I find that I recommend her to someone weekly! My hair finally feels so soft and healthy! It’s so great to know that I have finally found my hair dresser!

Dee knows her stuff. I have naturally curly hair and wanted a cut and color. She honored a Groupon I had for the cut and did an amazing job. I LOVE my hair cut! I went in the next day for a color, the price was really steep, but I feel she’s worth it. She knows what she’s doing, has a beautiful salon, treated me like gold. I will be an every 6 week customer for sure!

WOW! If you’re looking for a master stylist hair magician, go to Mod Salon on Williams! Dee used to work at Magnum Opus in the Pearl and now has opened her own salon! She does everything from cutting, coloring, styling to hooking you up with amazing customer service. She listens and cares about all of her clients. She’ll make you feel like a million bucks by the time you leave.
Usually, I do not know what I want to do with my hair. I’m one of those low maintenance ladies that only get my hair cut once a quarter! Dee always has a vision for my hair. She takes into account my round face and square head and works her magic! I KNOW! Round face + square head = super challenge for most hairstylist! I always leave happy with my hair and we have a great hair relationship. Yes, I said HAIR RELATIONSHIP! I trust her with my thick, coarse hair every time and she never disappoints.
Mod Salon is one of the few salon’s in Portland that carry Kerastase hair products. The interior of the salon has reclaimed wood walls, Edison lights, industrial fans, cow hide rug, concrete floors, coffee table covered in People magazine. Be sure you make your appointment here the next time you need a new DO. I even get my boyfriend to get his hair cut here.
What can I say… I LOVE IT HERE! Dee is fantastical!

It’s a very big deal for me to have someone new cut and color my hair. I’m so glad I took the risk! Dee did a fantastic job giving my style new life. I haven’t been this happy with my haircut in years!
Dee also gave my infant son his first haircut. She saved a lock for memories, her fantastic colleague shot a scrapbook of photos, and his hair still looks totally natural.

Dee is the best hairdresser I have ever had, for one reason above all the others — she is remarkably consistent in the color and style she gives me. As my hair is long, fine, thick and curly with a tendency to go brassy after highlights, it can be a challenge for even stylists with 20+ years experience (I had my hair ruined on many occasions before i met Dee, by so-​called expert stylists).
I know how over the top it sounds, but I even used to fly up to Portland from San Jose every 6 – 8 weeks when I was living there just to go to Dee — I don’t trust anyone else!
I am über confident in recommending Dee to anyone who is looking for a kind, attentive, highly skilled stylist with whom you can entrust your precious locks and the secrets of what you got up to last weekend ;)
