Established in 2001.

Mimosa’s doors opened in 2001, welcoming everyone, no matter what skill level, to experience the fun of painting your own pottery. The studio is a place where both kids and adults discover the joy and pride of painting something all their own. Pottery, paint, instruction, and friendly personal attention is provided.

Meet the Business Owner

Austin R.

Business Owner

After a 20 year career in politics, studio owner Austin Raglione opened her pottery painting studio on Alberta Street in November 2001. She wanted to share her love of painting pottery and the fun of making art with others.

Austin recently retired from the City of Portland as the Service Coordination Team, a program to help long term homeless drug addicts get treatment.

Austin is frequently in the studio where she catches up with customers and works on her own creations. Austin’s biggest joy is watching customers relax and have fun, getting to know fellow painters, and experiencing the joy of creating together.

I really enjoyed spending some of my free time here during a business trip. They’re really helpful, have a variety of paint colors to choose from, and their selection of pottery is great. I painted «skull mugs,» which I have never seen in any of these «paint a pottery» places.
I also live on the east coast, and they shipped my mugs with priority shipping and lots of packaging. They have a bunch of special deals throughout the week too.

Went on a Monday morning (11 am) with a friend. We were pretty much the only ones there and the place was blessedly a/​c cooled.
The selection of pottery pieces is really diverse in shapes and in prices. I went for a mug (they have various styles and the prices range all over. The one I picked was $ 28) and my buddy chose a cat figurine. We were both tired, but after a while we kind of found our zen working on our little projects. It was great to just relax, chit chat and let our creative sides take over. The selections of paints was nice and we had a lot of fun. We’re hoping to go again soon! (Will post pictures when the pieces are done)

This is a great place for fun solo or with family or a work group. Tired of another night of dull tv or need a different date night out? This is the place. I wish I’d registered for Valentines Day before it booked up. I like the pottery items they have here — diverse choices. My fav is the teapot. Great team building place for the work team or just a fun half day for the gang. They offer deals on certain days; see the website. The staff is great, so professional and welcoming. Fun, fun, fun!

My husband and I went on an afternoon date here and it was great! He was skeptical at first, but got really focused on his project and was surprised how much he enjoyed himself as someone «who isn’t into art projects.»
I’ve gone here with a group of friends before too and we had an excellent time hanging out and painting. I hear there’s a margarita night, so put that on my to-​do list!

I’ve had very positive experiences frequenting this studio. The staff is warm and friendly, even when I came to pick up my piece at closing time (my bad on that one). I really enjoy the family friendly atmosphere and it’s great that they host all sorts of events and birthday parties. I’m hoping to check out their «last Friday of the month Margarita event» or something to the tune of that. Their selection of glazes is pretty decent but you may be asked to pay an additional $ 2 for using more than a small amount of speciality glazes. They fire pottery twice a week so there is usually not much wait for the finished product. My only reasons for not giving five stars are that it’s a bit cramped for seating, parking is difficult (but usually is on Alberta), and that the prices could be a little lower. Even with these perceived downsides of Mimosa studies, I will still be returning for future projects since the pros vastly outweigh the cons. Definitely a place worth checking out, and a superb idea for a hand made gift.

Allison is a creative genius! I had an «idea» of what I wanted and she made it come to life. My son is going to be 1 in a few weeks and I told her I wanted a square plate with his footprint and it had to say «love.» She immediately made it happen. I forgot to bring a sample of what I saw so she took the time to look through their site to find what I was looking for. We couldn’t find it so she told me I could email a picture and she’d finish it up for me if I wanted. We emailed back and forth a little bit and I got a picture of the almost finished product. She is amazing! My son, who is VERY clingy to only my husband and me went to her right away. She’s amazingly patient, I can’t wait to see the completely finished product on Saturday.

Fun place to go to get creative and relax! I spent an afternoon here painting a bowl with an intricate design, so I took my time and didn’t rush. The music was fun, and the staff didn’t make me feel like I needed to hurry up. For a while I was the only one there, but it was a Monday in the summer, so not their typical busy time. They fire things less often in the summer so it took a bit longer to get my bowl back.
You pay by the item, not for paint or time. So take as long as you’d like to paint, use as many colors as you want, and have fun! Very small — only 2 tables that seat 8 each. If you have a group, definitely call ahead.
Fun small studio to spend an afternoon in — go paint !

My disabled sister wanted to paint ceramics on a hot Sunday afternoon so I called Mimosa on a friend’s recommendation. What a pleasant surprise. The shop is small but not cramped and the lady that worked with us was very helpful without being bothersome… and available throughout our time there for answers if needed. It was a great experience and we will go back. Can’t wait to pick up the fired items in 3 days!

My boyfriend and I went in for the first time for their Margarita Night and had a great time. The staff was down to earth and friendly and not skimpy on the drinks. The prices for the pottery are fair and they give you plenty of paint options for your creation. If you don’t finish in time you can come back later and finish at no extra charge. Highly recommend and I know we will be going back.

Very friendly staff. Great spot for a kid to make a hand made present for mom or dad. Definitely worth the value. I even bumped the shelf and broke a couple pieces by accident and they were very forgiving and didn’t charge me. That is what earns repeat business in my mind. thanks

Really cute little studio… but be forewarned that it IS indeed tiny. I dropped in and found that scheduling an appointment is actually preferred because of its little bity space. Because I was solo, I was easy to accommodate. Other than the teeny weeny space, this place is a new neighborhood favorite of mine. :)
PS…The staff is incredible with kiddos! Extremely patient and helpful!

Really fun little paint-​your-​own pottery studio. I went here for a little girls night before heading to a bar. It was a Friday and they served little margaritas and chips while we painted and chatted. It’s very casual and fun. I think I paid $ 28 for a cute little fish shaped bowl. The price includes the time and paint, so you know what you are paying right away. They have a huge selection of paint colors, so you have lots of options. Then, when you are done, you just give them your masterpiece and they will glaze and fire it for you. you can pick it up a few days later all shiny and ready to go. A fun outing with friends and probably with kids too.
Also, it’s in Alberta, so you can head out to a coffee shop, bar or restaurant after if you want to make a night of it.

My boyfriend and I went to Mimosa Studios for date night on Margarita Night and we had an amazing time! Even though neither one of us is very creative we were able to make really nice pieces. There is a lot of artwork up around the studio that can help inspire you and they also have books to look at and stamps that you can use to make it super easy!
Allison was friendly and had lots of helpful tips. The studio was very intimate and fun to work in.
How can anyone have a bad time with FREE bottomless margaritas? We will defiantly be back for another date night :)

We went a few months ago using a Groupon.
This place is so laid back. I have been to another «chain» paint your own pottery in the Phoenix (AZ) area and it’s nothing like that. Here, the price that you pay for the dish includes everything: the dish, studio time, use of equipment, firing, etc. It’s a little small so I would recommend calling ahead.
The service is great, they’ll show you how to do stuff if you don’t know how. I can’t draw a stick figure and I made a beautiful bowl that I use on a regular basis. I can’t speak for the quality of the firing (I’m sure there’s some technique behind it. I’m not a ceramics artist so I wouldn’t know), but I can tell you that I piece I made 6 months ago is still find with usage and hand washing.
Big plus: you can bring your own wine while you’re painting. Just make sure you bring your own corkscrew and glasses as well :) We made the people next to us green with envy.

I went here last night for their regular Margarita Night, which occurs every last Friday of each month.
If you purchase the minimum amount of ceramic ware, you get a free night of gabbing and being crafty with your girlfriends. Did I mention the free alcohol that gets refilled into your glass every time it looks empty?
The atmosphere is comfortable and friendly; the staff is really helpful and ready with answers. The hardest part is trying not to make mistakes while you’re painting.

Went here with friends, including The Tween, and enjoyed myself — painting a dish for my dog. Wish I’d had the aforementioned margaritas — I might have enjoyed myself just a little bit more… thankfully the dog doesn’t seem to mind my painful efforts at art on her behalf.
A nice distraction and you end up with an arty piece; staff is friendly and helpful. If there is a party booked, though, it can get crowded fast.
This goes on the list of «the Tween likes it» and therefore, 4 stars, because she doesn’t admit to liking ANYTHING.

Paint Your Own Pottery on Alberta. If you get inspired by all the budding art arising from this street cutting through the heart of Northeast, head to Mimosa to apply brush to pottery. They’ll fire it in their kilns for you and you can pick up your masterpiece a few days later.
Mimosa must cater in «girls nights out» because they advertise their last Friday margarita night.
