This business does not keep regular hours. I walked my bike two miles to the shop only to find that they were closed on a Friday afternoon.

Seth runs the best bike shop ever. I’ve been taking a couple of my bikes to him for a few years now. He is always showing me ways to prevent repairs or do simple things myself. If he has an extra part I need, he’ll throw it in. He’s flexible and his primary goal is not the bottom line. I find myself thinking I should tip him every time I’m there just to show my appreciation!
And I have a word for those with negative reviews:
Read «Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance», then reevaluate your review. Slick, immaculate bike shops might give you a sense of confidence or a professional air, but money doesn’t buy everything. Yes, this shop is a little funky. It’s a bike shop. And they do great work.

The guys here are super nice and pretty inexpensive. Turnaround time is quick. Seth stayed after close for my tune-​up cos I needed my bike back before they opened the next day.
Accessory selection is kind of limited: fenders, lights, locks, helmets, hardware, pedals, tubes, tools… They have all the basics covered, but this isn’t where you’ll be buying your new rain gear, for example.
They also sell vintage bikes if you’re into that. Wish they were open on Sunday or Monday, but everyone has to watch their payroll

I have been riding on a broken seat for a month, avoiding the hassle, stress, and cost of replacing it – would it simply be better to buy a new bike? I stopped by Meticon bike shop yesterday and they fixed my seat within five minutes – for five dollars. Couldn’t have been nicer or more soothing to a person with no technical bike knowledge.

I bought a bike that needed some work. Seth was extremely helpful giving me two options; one a short-​term fix for a reasonable price, and the other, a permanent fix for reasonable price. The work was done when he said it would be and the bike is running beautifully. I would highly recommend using the shop. I was more satisfied with the work they provided, than any other shop I’ve ever used. No bells and whistles… just delivering what was promised, when they said it would be, at a fair price. As good as it gets.

Great little shop. Got a flat while I was out and about, and the guy fixed me up and had me back on the road for under $ 15. Sweet little shop cat to pet while you wait.

I came in to look for MTB pedals and amidst all the goodies there were a used pair that fit my 1970s road bike. I could not believe my luck and now ready to ride!!! I also came in today after working on my bike and needed cable ends clamped. Just like that they were done and now I am planning when to bring my baby in for the big tune up.
The good… close to me, helpful, great service and affordable.
The bad. Not a thing!
The ugly. Ok the shop is old school… full of bikes and stuff in boxes kind of a small junk yard… Just the way I like it. A great place to find just that something.

I have been to Meticon Bike Shop many times now… Had them problem solve with me. Find cheap solution. And I have had them tune are repair multiple bikes.
The crew that works there is super friendly and always seem to know the answer to any of my questions. I would recommend this place for any of your bike needs. If they don’t have what you’re looking for they have no issue showing you in the right direction or ordering the parts you need.

Brought my friend’s bike in and the owner, Seth, fixed it up on the spot in no time.
He replaced the worn out tires, back tube, and threw on some well priced fenders — now she rides like a charm.

If I could hug this shop, I would.
I’ve been into Meticon a handful of times now, and every time the owner has been fast, knowledgable, friendly and his prices are fair. He patiently allowed me peer over his shoulder while he disconnected/​reconnected the new internal gear hub on my bike, empowering me to repair future flat tires on my own.
Also important to note, the owner is civically engaged, an active leader in his SE PDX community. A real class act.

I’ve taken my bike here a couple of times. One was for a tuneup and the other on Tuesday because I fubar’d my bike chain.
Both experiences have been good. When I took my bike in on Tuesday, I was surprised they called me the next day to tell me it was fixed. Even though I didn’t have my ticket with me, they recognized me as the customer who fubar’d the bike chain.
The people I’ve talked to have been courteous and professional.
I wish they were open later than 7 pm during the week, which is why I didn’t give them 5 stars. Anyway, I’ll keep coming here for my bike’s needs.

SUCK! I dropped my crappy old mountain bike off on a Thursday for a tune up (low expectations) and was given the impression it would be ready on Monday. I told them when I dropped off I would be out of town so no rush and I would see them Wednesday. I showed up Thursday a week later and get some crap about they cant find my ticket. then they find my bike and reverse lookup the paper ticket, then tell me they messed up and didn’t note what work would be done. Then they pawn it off like no big deal. Well a week and you could have called to save me a trip when I am trying to ride this bike with my kids TODAY is kinda a big deal.
My buddy used them and was happy so I tried them and I am not happy. you decide but I would note the other poor reviews that talk about how these people are lazy and act like you the customer are some kind of inconvenience. they have a very dirty shop with little organization. they have an antiquated ticket system that they can’t even master (come on really) and if they crap on you they act like its a normal day. They were nice but in that dullard sort of way. they were cheap but in the wont actually do the work in a fare time kind of way.
Screw these guys. Go the a better place get better service and your bike worked on for like only 5 bucks more than these guys charge.
To the owner I fail to see how you can remain in business and with this sort of action I hope your gone soon!

This shop is unprofessional, disorganized, dirty, and their employees are lazy.
Four times we have been paying partons. Each time we have been here, we hoped things would improve, but they have not.
Repair work was done late (after we arrived to pick it up, where it was still sitting in the same spot that we left it four days earlier), with no phone calls, which were promised. Parts taken without giving receipt, parts were then lost, then employees denied ever having them. Twice we have lost pieces after dropping bike parts off to be repaired.
Employees are bored — goofing off on the computer while our bike (along with many others) lay still broken, forgotten and ignored. Employees seem knowledgable, but unmotivated. Customers seem to inconvenience them.
You get what you pay for — they have some of the cheapest prices in town. But without organization, customer service or speedy repair service, Meticon will never get our business again.

This has been my go-​to service shop when living in Portland for almost 6 years. These guys are friendly and unpretentious. Their prices are fair. They’ve never tried to up-​sell me on a more expensive part or service package my bike didn’t need. They’ve never acted superior because they knew more about bikes than me. And they do know their stuff. I am one of those bike owners who thinks their bike is their baby, and I trust my baby in Meticon’s care. I recommend this shop to anyone in Foster-​Powell, Woodstock or surrounding neighborhoods.

I came to this shop because of the positive reviews on Unilocal.Big mistake. If you are sporting a janky fixie or a $ 25 Craigslist bike, this is the shop: cheap and townie. If you have a bike that you care about and have spent time fixing up AVOID THIS SHOP. I was let down by the time it took them to do a minor repair, the complete lack of communication, and most assuredly the quality of work. If you are going to repair someone’s bike with parts that do not match, nor are even the same fittings, you need to advise the customer first. I would only recommend this shop to teenagers or broke hipsters.
The proprietors are kind: that was the only saving grace of this experience. Though I’d rather have an a**hole that did the job right than a friendly guy that jerks you around.

Great place to get stuff for your bike. I haven’t used them for service, but I have heard good things. Super nice, and very helpful. I’ve gotten a few things there recently and have always received good service and advice. I’m grateful to have a quality bike shop close by in the neighborhood. Thanks!

I have this totally sweet single-​speed free-​wheel bike that I converted (mostly) by myself last year. I stripped down an old Specialized Rock Hopper, sanded it down, painted it white, and reassembled it minus the dérailleur and gears, and had the kind folks at Cascade Cycle finish the job by replacing the crank up front (stupid Biopace) and building out a single speed free-​wheel in the back. With the hill-​climber add-​ons, a solid frame, and thick tires, it’s basically like a large BMX. I love this bike.
But after a summer of riding, the bike started giving me trouble. The left crank kept coming loose as the result of the piss-​poor job I did of lubricating and reassembling my crank during my rebuild. Short story long, my crank got all stripped out and I needed a replacement along with someone to tighten up a few things and make sure my bike was put back together in a professional manner.
And when it comes to fine tuning a bike, I am no professional.
So I decided to try a shop slightly more local to me than Cascade (which is across town) based on the recommendation of a friend. I can say with ease that Meticon fits the feel of FoPo. This place is seriously beat to shit and utilitarian, but these guys surely know their bikes. And the dude who helped me (in all my non-​hip glory) was super nice, super helpful, and quoted me cheap price to do a few things like stretch my brake lines and do a low-​level tune up on some key points. Oh, and to replace the crank and get me a cheap ($ 1) quick release for my other bike (I snapped the quick release completely off of my road bike).
I am very pleased with my service so far, and am excited to have my bar/​neighborhood/​cruisin’ bike back from Meticon with a new crank, a tight hub, and some tight brakes.
Word.

These guys were happy to help and offered very reasonable rates. Citybikes is good, I just prefer Meticon. The owner is great and their mechanics know what they are doing.
Very laid back but professional approach. They have some used parts and their new parts are just as affordable as other bike shops.
Personable, helpful, and affordable. You can’t go wrong.

My friend just moved to portland and when i came to visit her bike was having many issues after the move. I helped her and called several different bike shops. Found this one and called them up, liked the guy on the phone immediaty. I this one gave me the best deal by far. Fantastic and incredibly quick service! They were very nice folks and knowledgable.
Now she says next time she will go straight back her the next time her bike needs work.

Seth, Brandon and Hazel are super nice and put up with my endless bike questions and general bike-​nerdery every time I come in.
If I could marry the bike I bought from them, I would.
These guys rock. Personable, helpful, honest. I’m hoping business keeps up for them throughout the winter.
