Good place to go if your a beginner. But if you want to experience full authentic phở. go somewhere else. This place is americanize which the server told me it was made so that it was less intimidating for others. Only one type of meat(beef flank) in Phở? And yes this is expensive but I’m sure they will tell you that it’s all heathy, organic and local.

Heard such good things about Mekong Vietnamese Grilled, however, I am not impressed. We were in the neighborhood and decided to try it out. I ordered the salad rolls, spicy beef noodle soup, and Vietnamese iced coffee. Salad rolls were pretty standard with a good peanut-hoisin sauce. The spicy beef noodle soup(Bun Bo Hue) had really good broth but not traditional enough for me. Where’s the banana blossoms, pork roll, coagulated blood, and pork hocks? They give you a lot of tender slices of beef to make up for it but I was still missing all the other stuff. The Vietnamese iced coffee was more sweet than strong. Services was very accommodating and friendly though.

Really clean vegetarian phở broth. Freshest bean sprouts I have EVER seen in a Vietnamese restaurant. Salmon was cooked to perfection. A little salty though. Great customer service & décor.

probably the worst beef phở I’ve had, super salty, barely any beef, and only a small amount of chewy brisket. extremely bland, needs lots of chili to flavor it up, which says it all since phở should be aromatic and flavorful. disappointed I didn’t go elsewhere, never again though… not to be judgmental, but I didn’t see one Vietnamese employee here, only Mexicans… weird?

This has become a favorite date spot with my hubby. I crave the lemongrass chicken noodle bowl and get it every time we go in. They are quick, friendly and it’s a very relaxing atmosphere. Perfect little lunch or dinner spot and very reasonably priced.

Solid. We come here for phở and they never disappoint. Great cozy place on a cold winter day or grab some to-go for a sick friend in need of Vietnamese penicillin. Friendly, fast service.

Other places were busy around it but we could get into this place right away. Order at the counter and they bring the food to you(you get your utensils and extras at the counter as well). Friendly staff and a clean décor. I was happy with my crispy tofu noodle bowl– the tofu pieces were perfectly fried pillows of yumminess on a bed of veggies/rice noodles with a simple clear sauce. They have two outdoor tables with umbrellas.

Stopped into Mekong when we needed lunch while in the studio recording. We walked over to Mekong, and I am glad we did. I got the Mekong combo and an ice coffee. The coffee was right on! The combo I had over noodles, and got two skewers one of shrimp the other pork and an egg roll. Everything was fresh and tasty. The dining room is decent, the tables are a bit small, but there is one large communal table if you have a big group. The only reason I don’e give it five stars is the prices are a bit high for a counter service place where you have to get your own silverware and napkins. The prices were higher than what is on the picture of the menu here by about $ 1-$ 2.

I recently moved to Sellwood and love this little restaurant. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming – they suggested the lemongrass chicken and garlic shrimp and both of those are now my go-to faves. I cannot say enough about how fresh and tasty they are. There is no oily/buttery nonsense sauce mucking them up, just straight up tastiness and well-balanced flavors. The noodle salad that comes with the meals has the freshest, most delicious dressing. It’s vinegar based and heightens the flavors of the shrimp and chicken dishes perfectly. Trust me when I say that if you’re into fresh flavors, this is the place you want to take a seat. Compare and contrast? Yes, let’s. I have been to Jade right up the street twice and prefer Mekong hands down. Why? Jade is greasy to me, even when I asked for ight oil on my second visit. Pro Tip: If you’re from Sellwood, order your meal to go and jump in the Bottle Shop next door for a glass of wine while you wait. The timing is usually spot on.

A nice lunch option for a not quite traditional take on phở. Not quite what you would expect if you’ve had phở in Vietnam or in any community with a strong Viet population but a fine option for a quick lunch. Nothing stood out as exceptional and I would give the spring rolls and pot stickers a pass but both the beef phở and spicy beef phở hit the spot. Exceptionally friendly service and fair prices. Not bad at all.

Sorry, I wanted to like this place because I was so hungry, but the service was slow, the beef phở was way too salty, and 10 bucks for soup is not one $ cost. There was no raw beef, no tendon or brisket, but rather chewy taco-style shredded beef in the broth. Applebee’s version of real Vietnamese food. Guys, please, don’t rate places like this so high when the food quality is so mediocre. You cause out of towners like me to get excited needlessly.

Great friendly family run restaurant. I love the Lemongrass pork or chicken entrees. The Beef Phở is great too!

Healthy food, not quite authentic vietnamese, but a healthy twist. A little overpriced, but this is Sellwood afterall.

Who needs that fancy place up the street and it’s thrice-damned line? Not this kid. Heck no. Mekong is a upgraded bento spot, both in variety and quality. Came here with the GF, she got the sesame beef off the regular menu, I got the chicken teriyaki off a little sign under it. Both were really good, slightly crispy and sauce on the sweet-ish side. We also got apps, she got the salad roll(looked good, but shrimp = yuck) and I got some spring rolls. Tasty. And no line. Eff yeah.

When the Saturday night wait line at nearby Jade is so long it’s forming a minotaur-worthy labyrinth, you only have two choices. Sacrifice whatever aristocratic youths you can find. Or, eat at Mekong instead. It’s fast, good enough, and there’s no line. And no bull.

This place is awesome! I just moved to the sellwood neighborhood less than a month ago and I’ve already eaten here 3 times. The man who is either the manager/owner is extremely friendly. I’m totally going to be a regular here. Get the short ribs. Nom nom nom

Went there today with my husband because I now work in the Sellwood area and I was hungry. I have a cold so I couldn’t taste very much but my husband really enjoyed his meat platter and the potstickers were really good. The prices were pretty great too. I’ll definitely be going back there when I work next! Oh and the place was really clean and the girl at the counter was very pleasant too.

Been enjoying Mekong for as long as they have been open Their lemongrass chicken is consistently delicious-chicken breast for the white meat fans My hubs enjoys a variety of Mekong’s other offerings –beef phở, Mekong combo and has also found the offerings consistently delicious The place is always clean and the staff is friendly and the kitchen is quick-but not too quick(if you know what I mean)

I want to bathe in the broth. Say that five times fast. Then, head to Mekong and order a lg. bowl of the chicken phở. Repeat. I drank all my broth– I was so smitten, I contemplated taking my bowl back and asking for a refill on broth. Seriously though. The broth– BAM! with flavor, depth, and a mild light color that just screams«comfort but not overwhelming», such as on a drizzly summer-late eve as tonight. The slices of chicken in the broth were thin enough to cook through but thick enough to have some good resistance when chewing through. I could tell the sliced meat was a chicken breast, which was still flavorful, moist, and abundant throughout. The normal«mix-ins» were served: Thai Basil, pepper slices, bean spouts, lime, fish sauce, siracha. I was hoping for real chili oil… but, meh. I also had an order of the shrimp salad rolls. They were filled with crunchy, crisp goodies, two shrimp slices per roll, and a decent amount of peanut sauce. The wrappers were not gooey in any way which would lead me to believe they were actually made to order, and if so? HUGE plus in my book. I LOVE salad rolls– the minute I get a chewy bite of a spring roll it reminds me of a dog chewing on a chemical-soaked toy and I am quickly setting the roll in the garbage/side of plate. Service was stellar. They were so darn friendly I wanted to hug them, including the gentleman who took my order, thanked me with a genuine«We appreciate you», and the woman who brought me my meal and actually stopped to hear my response to her«How are you, tonight, miss?» My only wish? $ 8.75 seemed a tad steep for a Phở, but then I remembered I was in Sellwood, the new«pearl».
