We hired Kathie (Maughan) after interviewing multiple contractors to renovate our loft in the Pearl District (original 1922 industrial building) from an awkward and chopped up office space into a place we could call long term home. Most important, our main home now is in Honolulu, HI and I needed someone I could trust long distance. I read many reviews about Kathie; most expressed their gratitude for communicating from distance, her attention to detail, and turn-​key capabilities to do all work under a single contract. Her efforts were incredible including shipment of special reclaimed barn wood flooring from NY state, dealing with irregularities in sub floors, and most importantly, positively dealing with tenants in an office space below us that were impacted by the construction including falling debris and our plumbing that went into their space. A beautiful bathroom and laundry was also created including custom concrete countertops, deep Japanese style soaking tub, and creation of custom cabinets and doors from reclaimed truck bed wood. So unique and original; this place is now a gem. Kudos to Kathie & Maughan Design!

Like no other contractor/​designer, Kathie Maughan is a cross between Fairy Godmother and Joan of Arc. Kathie and her amazing, dependable team remodeled our small vacation home in Portland…1000 miles from here… and we never had to be there! After one meeting with Kathie, we knew it could happen. But we didn’t know it would be perfect!
With daily email updates and photos, Maughan Design kept us completely involved remotely. In a few short months, Maughan Design transformed our compartmentalized 1970s house into a spacious, enchanting living space worthy of a magazine spread. They worked effortlessly with our chemical sensitivities, environmental concerns, and personal style. No challenge was too great for Kathie’s crew — managing installation of a new type of reclaimed wood floor, designing the copper sink, hood and fireplace with fabricators in Mexico, or sizing custom fireplace doors with an affordable Internet supplier. Every day we were pinching ourselves!
Kathie’s magic is creating a dream that feels uniquely OURS without us ever lifting a finger! Now we can’t wait to come up with another project to experience more Maughan magic…
