We hired Matt to help us buy our first home after meeting with a couple of other agents, and we are very glad that we did!
We liked his laid-​back style and straightforward manner, and the fact that he likes to use technology to make the home-​buying process easier. He was cool as a cucumber, and always helped us to keep our emotional reactions in check so that we could look at a house objectively.
He also grasped very quickly what we really wanted in a house, which helped him to save us both time by steering us away from houses that he knew wouldn’t meet our needs, no matter how nice they looked online.
His website was very easy to use to search, check out, map, and save MLS listings for later, which made it easier for him to book showings for us and to also get a sense of what areas and types of houses we liked.
He also didn’t mind me emailing him multiple times a day, texting him with updates, and also signing and scanning docs to email back to him, which saved us a ton of time by not having to go meet up with him each time something needed to be signed. However, even on the times that we did have to sign something, he was more than happy to meet us at one of our favorite brewpubs and hang out.
He was always available to us and went to *every* showing with us, instead of sending some trainee/​office assistant to the viewings, which is what one of the other agents we considered told us that she does. The one weekend when Matt went out of town, he arranged to have a colleague of his show us one house, and we liked her very much as well. Even while out of town, he was in constant contact with us in case we were ready to make an offer.
One last very useful thing Matt did was to give us a one-​page house-​viewing checklist, which had lots of places to write down our impressions of each house as we viewed it. This form was very detailed, and helped us to remember to check things like the condition of the roof, the foundation, etc. so that later on we wouldn’t have to try to remember all the details and we could then compare multiple houses side-​by-​side. It sounds simple, but it was very effective once we made a lots of copies of it.
We ended up viewing about 25 houses, and only made an offer on one, which speaks to both Matt’s efficiency and the usefulness of his listings website, which helped us scope out places in advance, which saved time and gas $.
I would recommend Matt completely and enthusiastically to anyone who wants a younger, tech-​savvy, Portland-​savvy, dynamic and efficient real estate agent, and especially to first-​time buyers.
