Made it back over to Mama’s Table on Christmas Eve day to get one of their Chicken Fried Steaks (CFS). Well, there is is, only the third chicken fried steak I have had that was not frozen/​pre packaged and the best one of the bunch.
The crust was crispy and hung on to the meat. The gravy was delicious, a tad sweet and the correct type of gravy for CFS. I only mention the gravy was the correct type because too many Portland restaurant serve CFS with town gravy or chicken gravy and thats an abomination. The gravy should be a white milk/​flour based gravy made with pan dripping or sausage, thats precisely what this was.
The owner also threw in some biscuits and extra gravy. The biscuits were dense yet soft and full of flavor, just right for biscuits and gravy.
This is my favorite kind of food and this just may be my favorite cart in the city, I am so glad its near work. Only complaint I can come up with is I didn’t have a knife for the CFS.
Solid food.
